After Everett's comment, Dorothy found herself wrestling with the idea of whether to keep Perdita on board. Since Perdita had just joined the team, it seemed harsh to inform her about a job transfer so soon, especially over a minor flirtation with Everett. Dorothy didn't want to come off as petty or vindictive.
"Ms. Sanchez, are you heading to Everglow City on a business trip? Could I possibly tag along?" Perdita asked, catching up to Dorothy right after the morning briefing as Dorothy was about to head back to her office with a stack of documents in hand. "This trip doesn't require your presence."
"I get that, but ever since I returned from abroad, I've been cooped up in Eldorria City. I haven't had the chance to explore much, and I thought this could be a great opportunity to both work and see a new place! I've heard the sights in Everglow City are breathtaking!" Perdita's reserve had vanished since her first day, replaced by a blunt forthrightness.
Though her request wasn't unreasonable, this kind of familiarity could make things awkward in a professional setting, as Dorothy was now experiencing.
"Perdita, work is work, and sightseeing is sightseeing. This trip isn't a good fit for you."
Perdita's disappointment was palpable, her lips pursing, "I'm not just looking to have fun! I want to work too. You can trust me to handle any tasks you assign."
"There's nothing I need to assign to you," Dorothy replied, her tone leaving no room for further discussion. Without giving Perdita a chance to continue, Dorothy turned and walked towards her office.
As the head of the company, Dorothy was swamped with overseeing new projects, each substantial in scope. Even with Kevin's frequent support, overtime had become a necessity.
She was deep into due diligence documents, determined to be thoroughly informed on each item, when a knock sounded at her office door, "Ms. Sanchez, it's me."

the project team lead, Dorothy invited her in. Matters concerning the project team were always urgent, prompting Dorothy to set aside her current task to give Nyssa her full attention, "What's the issue?"
"Ms. Sanchez, I need to visit the project site this afternoon for a firsthand inspection, then head over to the Bureau of Industry and Commerce to pull some records. I'll likely be back after hours."
This was common scenario, and Dorothy understood completely.
"Then clock out when you're done there. I'll let HR know not to count this as leaving early."
Nyssa smiled, "Thank you, Ms. Sanchez."
"You're doing this for the company. You're the one who deserves thanks."
The idea of running around in the heat, when one could stay comfortably inside with air conditioning and iced coffee, was unappealing to most.
"It's no trouble! With the salary I draw, it's the least I can do." Nyssa said, turning to leave. However, she paused at the door, hesitating.
Dorothy, sensing something was amiss, raised an eyebrow, "Nyssa, what's wrong?"
"Ms. Sanchez... There's something I'm not sure I should mention. I really don't ant to step on any toes,
especially being new at Trust E, but I think you should know."
"Go ahead," Dorothy said, setting down her pen to show she was all ears.
