Chapter 185

Andrew noticed Madelyn fidgeting with her food and even ignored the beef in her bowl.

He gently took her cold hand and asked, “What’s on your mind?”

Madelyn snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Andrew with confusion.

“Earlier, you mentioned Caleb was gravely injured five years ago. Could that be when I hit my head, too? Is that when the blood clot in my brain formed?”

“It’s possible, but the tests suggest it wasn’t just a one–time injury,” Andrew replied.

Madelyn’s mind went blank. She couldn’t remember the time she and Caleb were injured together, let alone any other times she might have been hurt and forgotten about it.

Reflecting carefully, she realized that the blood clot in her skull had indeed had a significant impact on her.

Even though she was injured with Caleb five years ago, her clearest memories from the past five years were with Andrew. She couldn’t recall why they had quarreled or why she had acted out for Easton’s sake.

“Let’s not dwell on it anymore, okay?” Andrew said after noticing her pale face.

He covered her cold hand with his warm palm.

Madelyn nodded.

“Okay.” Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

She considered that those memories could possibly return once the blood clot in her brain dissipated She contemplated if what she had forgotten wasn’t that significant after all.

After lunch, Andrew took Madelyn to the company to take her medicine. In the afternoon, with nothing else to do, Madelyn checked on the status of the items she had bought for Serena and confirmed they had arrived.

She called David to arrange for them to be picked up and disinfected.

Toward the end of the workday, a new colleague named Emma Brooks joined the design department. Emma boasted three years of experience in the field. Although she hadn’t won any significant awards, Jessie hired her for her extensive design experience.

Knowing that Madelyn was just an intern, Emma disregarded her and instructed, “Go make copies of this document for me.”

Madelyn was in the middle of sketching a design when she heard this. She glanced up at the brilliant- looking Emma, who seemed dismissive.

Emma’s eyes flashed with disdain.

“What do you want?”

“Nothing. I’ll help you,” Madelyn replied, setting aside her sketches to take the document from Emma. When she returned after making the.copies, she found Emma engrossed in computer–graphics without even acknowledging her.

Madelyn shrugged it off and returned to her unfinished design at her desk. She realized she might have overestimated Jessie, as the next two days were surprisingly quiet in the design department, with no sight of any clients at all.

Meanwhile, Emma was demanding, constantly asking Madelyn to make a copy of this or that.

By the third day, Madelyn grew unsettled during her lunch break.

She approached Andrew and asked, “Darling, why don’t we have any clients yet?”

“You still don’t have any clients?”

“No. Jessie is out every day,” Madelyn said, noting that no clients had signed any contracts.

Andrew raised an eyebrow.

“Jessie is very capable, but your studio is just getting its feet off the ground. Not many people trust it yet.

“I see.”

Madelyn nodded in realization.

Andrew suggested, “Do you want to take on the design for Glomhill?”

“Can I?” Madelyn asked eagerly.

“It’s up to you to decide. But remember, now that your studio has a full team, not doing any work for a month could cost around 600 thousand dollars in salaries alone.”

“What? That much?”

Madelyn was taken aback. They would lose money if they had no work to do.

It seemed that she couldn’t rely too much on Jessie. She needed to find a way to get this team working sooner rather than later.
