Chapter 577
That night, Lisette and the dog Silas brought ended up sleeping in the same
room.
Lisette didn't notice anything odd about the dog. So, when she finally got into bed, she let out a sigh of relief, thinking that Silas seemed like a decent guy, definitely not the kind who'd treat her the way she'd once treated Calliope.
Of course, what she didn't know was that Silas would do absolutely anything for Calliope.
Anyone who hurt Calliope? Silas had no plans to let them off the hook. In fact, he'd only make things worse for them.
After living with Silas for a while, Calliope had gotten to know his personality pretty well. So she figured, since Silas had gone out of his way to bring Lisette a dog, it probably wasn't as simple as it seemed.
Later that evening, while they were both in their room, Calliope couldn't help but ask, "Is there something weird about that dog?"
"The dog?" Silas flashed a mysterious grin. "Oh, there's definitely something up with that dog."
"Huh?" Calliope had suspected it, but she hadn't really believed it was true. "You're serious?"
"Dead serious. But you can't really tell just by looking at it."
No matter how hard Calliope tried, she couldn't see anything off about the dog. Still, if Silas said so, he probably wasn't lying to her.
"Of course you can't see anything," Silas said, shaking his head. "If you could, someone like Lisette would've found a hundred ways to refuse. She's not the type to agree to anything unless she has a good reason."
Calliope nodded. "Yeah, she's not easy to convince."
"That's why I had to be a little sneaky." Silas chuckled, ruffling Calliope's hair. "You'll see what I mean in the morning."
"Alright," Calliope replied, then hesitated. "By the way, how did you know she once used a dog to... mess with me?"noveldrama
She'd never told Silas about that. But clearly, Silas knew all about it.
“Just picked it up somewhere,” Silas said lightly, dodging the question.
Calliope didn't press him. Ever since she'd gotten used to staying with the Jewell family, she'd adjusted to the room, and with Silas nearby, she fell asleep quickly.
When Calliope woke up, it was already early morning. She washed up, and Silas got up, too. After
getting ready, they headed el
out of their room together.
Lisette hadn't come out yet.
Because Silas had said something would happen to Lisette today, Calliope was actually a little curious. What would it be?
"Morning, you two!" Valerian called out as he passed by, giving them a friendly
wave.
Calliope nodded in greeting.
A few minutes later, Lisette finally
emerged from her room, the dog trotting at her heels. She patted Goldie's head and said to Silas, "Mr. Myers's Goldie is so smart. She's incredibly well-behaved, didn't make a peep all night."
"Is that right?" Silas replied, eyes fixed on Lisette. "But... what happened to you?"
He stared at her in horror. “Did you catch some kind of terrible disease?!"
"What?" Lisette froze, reaching up to touch her face. She glanced at Valerian.
Valerian caught sight of Lisette's face and nearly jumped back in shock, his eyes wide with disbelief.
What do you think?
