Chapter 6 The Charity Banquet (2)
Camilla was rooted to the spot.
Perhaps, she still had a guilty conscience. She never expected that the sweet Laurel would say such
things.
Laurel didn’t plan to let Camilla off. She watched them arm in arm and said, “Ms. Braun, do you think
you can be a better fiancée than me?”
Bruno came to his senses. He hastily shook off Camilla’s arm.
Camilla was embarrassed. She wore a bitter smile and said, “Because Ms. Lambert seldom attended
such banquets, I had to accompany Mr. Scott. If I made Ms. Lambert understand me, I’m sorry.”
“Are you implying that I’m not magnanimous?” Laurel raised her eyebrows.
Camilla wanted to defend herself.
However, Laurel didn’t give Camilla a chance. “Besides, the only thing that upset me is that I thought
you were staking a claim to my fiancé because you were clinging onto him in the past five minutes after
I entered the banquet hall.”
Camilla’s face turned pale. She didn’t dare to refute Laurel due to their different social ranks, so she
explained and apologized, “It’s not like that, Ms. Lambert. I forgot my sense of propriety. I’ll pay
attention next time.”
Laurel let out a chuckle.

She didn’t plan to forgive Camilla.
Shelley was dumbfounded and thought this wasn’t the Laurel that she used to know.
The new Laurel was so sassy!
Shelley had warned Laurel about Camilla, believing Camilla was a homeworker. Camilla and Bruno
were seen together every day. It was obvious that Camilla was up to no good.
Laurel trusted Bruno, and Shelley thought Bruno was indeed a good man, so Shelley stopped bringing
this up.
Nevertheless, Shelley always hated the sight of Camilla. Camilla was pretty. She graduated from a
famous college and became the Scott Group’s CEO’s assistant at a young age. But she was
vainglorious and snobbish. She mocked the daughters of rich families and thought they were good for
nothing.
Thus, when Laurel scolded Camilla in front of everyone, Shelley was having the time of her life!
“Laurel,” Bruno suddenly started to talk. He reached out to hold Laurel’s hand. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
Laurel was repelled, but she overcame it.
“I didn’t expect to see you here today. I’m so happy.” He didn’t say a word about what happened just
now.
He also didn’t stick up for Camilla, nor explain why he let Camilla hold his arm.
Bruno was always good at ignoring the elephant in the room.

Needless to say, Laurel was smart. She took the win after she scolded Camilla and humiliated Bruno.
She knew more haste and less speed.
“Let’s go. My parents are dying to meet you,” Bruno grinned. He was such a gentleman.
Laurel nodded. After she parted Shelley, she held Bruno’s arm and ambled through the banquet hall.
They immediately attracted a lot of attention.
“Seeing is believing. Laurel is indeed the prettiest woman in Lexingcester.”
“She didn’t like to be in public. This is the first time I see her. It turns out I was wrong about saying she
was not pretty enough.”
“I always thought Laurel was not good enough for Bruno. Now, I believe he is out of her league.”
Laurel and Bruno both heard those comments.
In the past, Laurel steered away from such parties. Meanwhile, Bruno knew how to present himself, so
everyone in Rosegrad City agreed that Laurel didn’t deserve Bruno.
Now, hearing those different voices, Bruno was a little piqued.
He always put himself before others. He didn’t like being criticized or being outshined by anyone, not
even Laurel.
However, he had a penchant for concealing emotions. No one could tell how he felt.

Laurel and Bruno stood before Bruno’s parents and greeted
them.
Laurel used to think the Scotts adored her. They cared for her. In hindsight, they were just trying to gain
her trust and swindle her out of her family fortune.
Laurel masked her anger and chatted with the Scotts.
People came and go in the banquet hall. As one of the Four Great Families, the Scott family was
worshipped by a group of sycophants. While talking and laughing, no one, including Bruno, had noticed
Laurel took her leave.
He was a workaholic. It was understandable that he ignored
her.
In the past, she kept finding excuses for him…
Laurel turned around and walked to the garden in the backyard.
She felt much at ease staying in a quiet place. But in the next
moment…
“Ms. Lambert.” She was startled by an exciting voice.
Laurel looked back and saw a man emerge from the shadow.
He was wearing a tailored dark grey suit, a white shirt, and a silver tie. He had a chiseled face and a
pair of deep eyes. At first glance, everyone would be swept off their feet.
Without being noticed, Laurel looked away. She said, “Why are you here?”
“I’m here waiting for you, Ms. Lambert.” Hayden’s lips curled

into a smile.
Wait for her?
How did he know she would come to the garden?
“What do you want?” Laurel asked plainly.
“Give back my card!” Hayden cut to the chase.
Laurel’s expression changed slightly.
As expected, she couldn’t have high hopes for him.
She said, “Aren’t you always generous to women?”
“So, Ms. Lambert, are you reminding me that you’re my woman?” Hayden gave an evil smile.
Hayden sashayed toward her with an oppressive and dangerous aura.
Laurel kept her distance.
Hayden giggled shamelessly.

“Stud,” Laurel said crossly. “I left the card at home. I’ll give it to you next time!”
She turned around and left.
With a clear goal, Laurel decided to adjust herself to her new life as a social butterfly as soon as
possible.
In the next moment, Laurel saw Bruno walking out of the banquet hall.
He seemed to realize she was gone and went to find her.

He looked sullen when he saw her. Probably, he took it for granted that she should stay by his side
whenever he did something.
However, in a blink of an eye, he changed into a suave and polite man. He said, “Why did you leave
alone? I was so worried about you when I didn’t see you.””
“I wanted to have some fresh air. I’m going back now,” Laurel smiled.
“Next time, let me keep you company!” Bruno lovingly held her in his arms.
Laurel was uncomfortable, especially when she met Hayden’s
creepy eyes.
She couldn’t tell why. His eyes…just make her feel guilty.
Truth be told.
They were just partners.
Bruno also noticed Hayden. He gently reached out his hand and greeted, “Long time no see, Mr.
Gilbert.”
Hayden shot Bruno a stare and didn’t shake hands with him.
He arrogantly walked past them and sneered, “Mr. Scott, beware of the guys who want to steal your
beautiful finance.”
