Alpha Twins And Their Hybrid Mate

Chapter 35

ELLA'S POV

As I was standing there looking at Dean, I noticed that there was something strange about him. It was his eyes. I mean, people have always said that my eyes were an unusual color but not, I'm looking at them in Dean. They were the same color as mine. That piercing blue that you usually only get with colored contacts. It was strange, but somehow comforting.

"So, when did you want me to start?" I asked, still trying to get over the initial shock of getting the job with such ease.

"Well, follow me and we'll go to my office." Dean said with a welcoming smile and I followed him towards the back of the cafe and we went into a pretty luxurious office that was situated out the back for a cafe.

I guess I wasn't surprised since this place was in such an upscale neighborhood and catered to the richer clientele of the city.

"So, shifts changed every week. The manager usually takes care of them, but you've got pretty extensive experience working at diners and cafes. Don't you?" He asked.

"Yes, sir. Ever since I was 14. When I was old enough to get a job.” I said. He stared at me from across his desk, which started making me feel a little uneasy. His expression didn't change but I could tell that he was thinking about something.

"Well, that is pretty young to start working. What about your schooling? I know that you haven't graduated yet." He said.

"No, sir. I plan to finish school online. So I can work more hours." I said. And he nodded his head.

He showed me the different shifts that the workers would usually be given and this cafe was open long hours during the day. But that's alright. It's not like I hadn't ever worked double shifts before. I was expecting that here as well.

"And obviously you will be in charge of making all the coffee drinks and there are a lot. Some people come in here with really strange orders. I hope you're familiar with the machines that you saw out there." He said. And I remembered walking past the massive coffee machines that were behind the counter.

“Yeah. I have actually worked with those before. They are complicated but easy once you get to know them." I explained.

“Okay. That's even better. I won't have to waste time training you. I knew you were the right person for this job." He said. And I remember everything I saw while I was in the coffee shop. The way everything was set out on the boards and on the menus that I saw sitting on the counter.

"If you don't mind, I know that I've only just started and well, I haven't even had my first shift yet. But I couldn't help but notice how you had the meal display set up on the boards out there." I said.

"Yeah. What's wrong with them?" He asked. I felt myself getting a little nervous. I didn't want to upset him before I even had a chance to start this job or give him a reason to fire me. But for some reason, I just didn't see that happening.

So I told him my ideas for displaying the meals that would make them look a little more appealing and hoping that they would sell more. And not to mention the drink samples that I suggested.

He didn't know what I meant by that at first, but I explained that if he gave people a chance to sample a drink in a mini cup then they would know if they wanted that one or not. It would open people up to buying more than just their usual.

"These are just ideas. They're probably stupid, it doesn't matter." I said, looking down at my hands. Getting nervous as he stared at me and I started getting nervous that I had overstepped.

This was the whole reason I never really spoke up to anyone. Because no one ever cared what I thought.

"Actually, I think that's a really good idea. Both of them. For the meals and the drinks." He said. And I looked up at him in surprise and he was smiling at me. "You noticed all of that in that short time you were standing out there?" He asked, leaning forward on his chair and resting his arms on his desk.

"Yes, sir." I said.

"Wow. I am impressed. You've got great observation skills." He said.

"Thank you." I said, shyly. But I have to admit, I was proud of what I done already. I was proud that I had already impressed the boss without even starting the job yet.

We had a few papers to fill out in the office so I could start working there and getting paid properly for it and then Dean took me upstairs to the staff dormitory.

It was just as luxurious and downstairs. And it seemed to be larger than the space downstairs. I guess it covered a few of the businesses that were connected below

us.

But as soon as we walked inside I saw a sign on the wall that said 'Stone Heart Group'. I stopped and stared at it for a moment. I've heard of them.

I used to dream about finishing school and coming to work for this company. It was based around medicine and medical supplies.

Dean was being really nice to me as he was showing me around and giving me a personal tour of the dorms and chatting with me about anything and everything. He wasn't really acting like a typical boss. He was pretty easy to talk to and actually took an interest in his employees.

You don't usually see that in the city.

I actually wondered to myself if this is what it would be like talking to my real father, if I ever knew who the hell he was. My mother never even told me his name. It's like she wanted to forget all about him, but I was still there as a constant reminder.

Dean showed me the apartment that I would be staying in. It was fully furnished and the nicest place I have ever stayed, except for Wendy's house. It had a great view of the city and was larger than I thought. All modern amenities and even a dishwasher. I was so pathetic that I got excited about having a dishwasher.

"What do you think?" Dean asked as I was looking around the apartment.

"It's gorgeous. I love it. I don't really have much money in the way of rent. Would it be alright if I apply for a salary reduction to cover the rent?" I asked, feeling nervous again. I hated having to ask people for this sort of stuff. It really made me feel like a charity case and I hated it. I always believed that I could make it on my own and so far, it wasn't going so far.

The money that was left for me at the airport didn't go as far as I had hoped it would. And it was running out rapidly. So I didn't really have a choice.

"No. You can't apply for salary reduction." Dean said. I wasn't really that surprised. I guess I will just stay at the hostel. But that was alright, I could pay for the rent there with the money that I would be making at the cafe. "The apartments free." Dean added, causing my head to snap around to look at him.

Was he serious? I was living here for free? I really didn't understand. Nothing in life was ever free. This wasn't real. It couldn't be real.

“I mean it, you don't have to pay rent. And you can stay here forever if you like." He said, smiling that warm smile at me again.

I was so overjoyed with everything that he was telling me, but I still had that nagging little feeling in my gut that something wasn't right about all of this. What did he want in return? The more I got to know him and the more he was talking to me, my doubts were deepening. He'd shown me what I would be making while working in the cafe as well, it all seemed way too good to be true.

"So, how did you know that I would see the flier in the hostel? I mean, there's so many people walking in and out of there every day. How did you know that they weren't going to apply for the job?" I asked casually as I walked around the apartment, looking in the cupboards and checking everything out.

"I would have told them that they didn't have the job." He said, leaning against the counter of the kitchenette.

"Wow. I guess this job really was meant to be mine." I said.

"Of course it was.” He said. And I stopped looking through the cupboards and I saw that Dean was still leaning against the bench and blocking my way to the door.

I knew this job was too good to be true. He's not telling me the truth. He just told me that he was only going to give this job to me. Why the hell would he do that? What does he want in return? Does he think I'm an idiot? I had to find a way to get out of here.

"Are you alright?" Dean asked.

"I have to get out of here." I said, looking at him very seriously. "What? I thought you liked the apartment." He said. And I started to panic and step backwards away from Dean. I didn't want him coming any closer to me.

"You just told me that you put that flier up for me. You wanted me to find it and no one else. What the hell are you going to do to me?" I asked, my hands starting to shake and my breathing getting labored.noveldrama

He finally realized what mistake he had made and he raised his hands in front of him like he wasn't going to hurt me. But I didn't believe that.

“Don't come near me.” I snapped. And he stopped walking, but he stood there staring at me.

"Ella. Calm down. I'm not going to hurt you... You have a remarkable ability to detect when people are being dishonest." He said.

"Don't try to flatter me right now." I said, not being able to back up any further because I already had my back against the glass wall behind me.

"Ella. I did lie to get you here. The truth is, I'm the Head of the Heartstone Group. I'm the person that's been behind Celie, who was sending you money every month.......I'm also your father.” He said. And I stared at him, trying to stop my mouth from dropping open as he laid all of this truth on me that I wasn't sure I was ready to hear.
