Chapter 50
Chapter 50
The familiar voice caused a hint of surprise in Rachel’s eyes, followed by a small smile of hers. “I thought…”
“What? Have you thought that I might have stood you up?!” The large rose bouquet was down, revealing David’s charming face behind it.
The soft lights of the corridor shone on his finely carved features, bringing more dimension to his angular face. The reflection of the lights in his deep eyes was like spots of starlight, which was mesmerizing.
David stared at Rachel fixedly while there was joy in the corner of his eyes that he didn’t even realize himself. “And I thought the bouquet was doomed to be withered.”
“Are you complaining that I was late?” asked Rachel, who raised her hand and brushed her hair back. A faint smile crept across her face.
David pinched his lips and then answered her question with tenderness in his eyes. “The time is right, the moon is nice, and now you’re here with me. Everything is just perfect.”
His eyes were full of affection, and David looked as if he was going to stroke the back of her head and kiss her in the next second. Rachel’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
She lowered her eyes to hide what she was thinking. Then, finally, she asked, “Have you been waiting for me long?”
“One hour and fifty–four minutes,” said David.
He was so honest that Rachel didn’t know what to reply for a moment.
She looked at David’s handsome appearance. A glimmer of amusement appeared in her almond eyes. “So? Are you trying to tell me something?” David feasted his dark eyes on Rachel’s face. There was a brightness in his eyes that was breathtaking.
Holding the rose bouquet, he moved toward Rachel step by step, then reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear with his long fingers. His Adam’s apple moved up and down before he said, “I just want to show my earnestness by answering your question, Miss Grey.”
His lower–pitched but tender voice was as pleasant to hear as the bubbling freshwater of early spring, which tugged at the heart of Rachel
somehow or other.
The distance between them drew nearer, and all Rachel could breathe was the light woody fragrance of perfume that David wore.
Rachel’s thick and curly eyelashes fluttered slightly out of nervousness. Then, finally, she calmed herself, cleared her throat, and whispered, “Didn’t you say you were taking me to dinner?”
“Come on, follow me,” David said as he took Rachel’s hand naturally.
When their hands met, Rachel felt that the warmth from David’s palm had spread through her body.
Rachel automatically tried to wriggle out of David’s grip, but only to feel his grip tighten.
She had to give up struggling and let him take her hand while looking around somewhat awkwardly.
After entering the private room in the restaurant, David put down the rose bouquet and held a chair out for Rachel.
At that moment, a waiter took a bottle of brandy into the room and poured it into glasses for them. Then, he asked David politely, “Sir, shall I serve the food now?”
David gave the waiter a slight nod, and the waiter left them alone with a subservient smile.
The conversation between them was simple, but Rachel was acute enough to be aware of the exceptional respect the waiter showed to David.
Soon, their dinner was served. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Rachel looked at the dishes carefully and had a complex feeling mixed with amazement.
She was surprised to find that there were no side dishes or ingredients that she disliked on the table.
The dishes David ordered all catered to her taste and were precisely what she wanted.
Rachel doubted in her heart that it was only a coincidence.
She looked up at David, who sat opposite her, with mixed feelings.
