Chapter 1229
Lydia was so shocked she didn't even know how to react. The news was completely unexpected.
The doctor quickly prescribed folic acid, and neither of them said a word until they got into the car. Once seated, Quincy finally glanced at Lydia, clearly trying to contain his emotions.
"You..." he began, but Lydia cut him off, her voice betraying her nervousness. "I had no idea either. My period didn't come for a month, but my cycle has always been irregular, so I didn't think much of it."
Lydia truly didn't know what to do about the little life growing inside her. Her parents still hadn't approved of her relationship with Quincy, and just days ago, they were trying to set her up with Eugene. The thought of what her parents would do if they found out she was pregnant was terrifying.
But despite all that, Lydia never considered not having the baby. This was her and Quincy's child. The thought filled her with warmth, and she couldn't help but start imagining their future together.
Quincy noticed her hesitation and, after a moment of silence, asked, "Do you want to keep the baby?"
Lydia nodded resolutely. She had already made up her mind. No matter what her family said, even if her parents didn't approve, she was going to have this child and raise it.
But then Quincy said something that hit her like a bolt of lightning. "We can't keep this baby. It's going to affect you, and since it's still early, we can take care of it now."
Boom.
It felt like the ground had crumbled beneath her. Lydia stared at Quincy in disbelief, her eyes burning with anger. "Quincy! This is your child. How could you say something so cold?"Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Quincy's expression tightened, and it was obvious he wasn't saying this lightly. "That's exactly why I have to be firm. We haven't even gotten your family's approval yet. If you have this baby now, it'll be born without a proper place in the family.
"Not to mention the risks of childbirth. Lydia, you're still young, and so am I. There's no need to rush into having a child right now."
Quincy's reasoning was entirely for her benefit, which caused some of Lydia's anger to subside. But she remained firm in her decision.
Maybe it was the attachment to this unexpected child, or perhaps it was the rebellious streak that had been buried deep inside her since she was young That rebelliousness was like a seed planted in her heart, lying dormant for many years.
It wasn't until her mother forcefully dragged her to the Ford family banquet that it began to sprout, and now, this child was undoubtedly the catalyst.
"No matter what you say, I'm not changing my mind," Lydia said with determination. "I'm keeping this baby, and no one can convince me otherwise."
Quincy rubbed his forehead, feeling
a headache coming on from her stubbornness. Lydia had always been strong-willed, but today he realized that her determination also came with a certain unyielding strength.
In the end, Quincy relented. He couldn't bear to see Lydia upset, so he agreed to let her keep the baby.
However, he made one important request that Lydia had to reduce her time at the company, and he absolutely refused to let her overwork herself.
Lydia argued with him several times
on this point, but Quincy remained firm. Every time she was about to protest, Quincy would calmly say "You want to keep the baby, and I've agreed. But in return, you need to meet my conditions.
"There's no need for you to worry about the company. I'm not so helpless that I need my girlfriend to run things for me. Trust me, okay?"
When he said that, a gentle warmth flickered in his eyes, and Lydia melted instantly. She could never stay upset when he looked at her like that.
