Chapter 36 Get away with It
Chapter 36 Get away with It
Margery was with Ethan the whole night, and now she was wiping for him. Ethan was so painful that he was in a cold sweat.
When the day broke, he stopped trembling and drifted off to sleep.
Margery bent down and touched his splinted right leg. It seemed less swollen than yesterday. She felt relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief.
After a sleepless night, she was worn out.
However, knowing that her son's breathing had returned to a steady state, and his bruised face was slowly ruddy, she felt it was worth it. Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
The doctor told him to eat some light food, so Margery went to buy some light porridge for him, and then bought a new set of clothes for him.
But when she left, Ethan was left alone in the room, and she didn't feel easy.
Margery wanted to ask a nurse to look after him.
Before she left, she looked down at her son, gave him a gentle kiss on his swollen cheek, and walked out.
Opening the door of the ward, Margery caught a glimpse of a cold figure standing at the door and looked down at her. He was in black messy suit and trousers, but it did not affect his handsome and charming temperament at all. On the contrary, it added a bit more unruly and wanton air to him.
Margery was taken aback, but soon calmed down. She sneered with a cold face. "Mr. Barrett, what are you doing here in the early morning?"
He seemed to be here for a whole night!?
What was wrong with him?
Margery felt strange.
Mr. Barrett looked at her from head to toe. "Melvin didn't show up to the hospital all night to see the kid. Has he been doing this to you?" asked the man.
Although he tried to restrain himself, Margery could detect a hint of anger from his taut body and thin, deep-pressed lips.
Why was he mad at Melvin not coming to see Ethan? What qualifications did he have to be angry?
Margery wanted to laugh.
She looked up and smiled, "This is my family business, not yours! Mr. Barrett, you go too far."
Ethan deliberately called Melvin 'Dad' in the hall of the hospital building where she had plastic surgery. Mr. Barrett mistakenly thought that Melvin was Ethan's father and her husband...
This was a beautiful misunderstanding.
Let him be mistaken. She had never tried to explain anything to him.
That Margery who had loved him so crazily that she was even willing to die for him had died in the fierce fire, and would never come back.
Margery put on a cold smile, and the coldness swept over her eyes.
"I hope Mr. Barrett will not come to me anymore, except for the treatment. I'm married, Mr. Barrett."
"Is that how you treat the man who found your son?"
"Dr. Byrne, isn't it you who pretended to be drunk and groped me in the washroom?" Golden smiled lightly. Suddenly, he looked stern and pinched her jaw, looking at her like a beast looking at its prey. "Didn't you dial the wrong number on purpose to get me hooked last night? I have no interest in you, but you actively flirt with me, arouse my interest in you. And now you want to retreat, telling me that you are married? It's too late. In H City, there is nothing I dare not do, only the things that I don't want to do!"
And with that he bent his head over her soft red lips and kissed her fiercely.
He had wanted to do it since the moment he had held her limp waist last night.
Since she wanted to flirt with him, he would like to play with her!
The soft lips made Golden feel shocked.
Her face was completely different from Margery's, but her lips made him feel the same pleasure he felt on Margery's lips five years ago.
"How shameful you are! Get away!"
Golden kissed her and she couldn't get rid of him, which made her feel disgusting. Without thinking too much, she raised her hand and slapped ruthlessly in his face.
Margery was furious, using all her strength.
Her hand, high in the air, trembled with pain.
She hated him so much that she looked at him coldly.
"Mr. Barrett, you think too highly of yourself! I have someone to love and I have a cute kid. Why would I hit on you? Perhaps in your life there are a lot of women with ulterior motives. But I am not interested in you. Just because you're powerful in H City doesn't mean you can do everything at your will. If you continue insulting me, I will call the police. Don't blame me for being rude to you."
"Do you think I will be interested in any woman?"
Golden did not dodge her slap. He turned his stern face slowly and stared at her angry eyes. His face darkened, and he felt all kinds of complicated emotions flooded his mind. "You gave me a sense of familiarity. I couldn't resist the impulse. Can't I figure out who you are?"
She was caught off guard, and was forced to be kissed. In the end, it was her fault!
Five years ago, he was so hard and cold. No matter what he did, she was always wrong.
Five years later, he was still the same.
"Is it?"
Margery pushed him away, with unspeakable ridicule and sadness in her heart. "Mr. Barrett, you are the most powerful man of H City. To deal with me is as easy as to kill an ant. Should I be grateful that you just want to figure me out, rather than to kill me?"
"Do you have to distort my intention?" Golden gave her a sullen glare.
Staring at his cold face, Margery's hatred for him deepened. Raising her face, she sneered in a cold tone, "Mr. Barrett, you flirted with me, insulted me, and you expect me to be grateful to you? Are you trying to insult me, or to insult your good and innocent Vivian?"
The last words fell in Golden's ear, causing him to freeze slightly.
He had heard the same thing five years before.
On that dreary evening in the bedroom, he was half mocking Margery, half sneering, saying she was the most hypocritical woman he had ever met!
Every word that came to her ear was like a sharp knife.
Then how about Margery?
Now, five years later, her reaction to what he had said was still vivid and ran through his mind night after night.
At that moment, she trembled with agony. After staring at him for a long, long time, she laughed softly. Tears coming out of her eyes, she said 'Vivian was kind and innocent', and she wished him and Vivian a happy marriage and grew old together.
At that time, he hated her, and did not care about her, nor did he pay attention to how painful she was when she said these words.
Later, she died in the car fire. Only at that moment did he realize what he had lost.
The woman that he had lost, over the years, had become the painful memory.
Golden lowered his eyes and looked at the angry woman. The past memories came to his mind. "Margery, is that you?"
