Chapter 830 Comforting Noodles Before Goodbye

Phoebe took a few bites of the food, finding the taste somewhat familiar. She swallowed and looked at him in surprise, "Did you cook this?"

Back when they were together, Theodore rarely cooked and didn't like strangers coming in and out of the house, so most of the time, it was Phoebe who cooked.

It was rare to taste Theodore's cooking.

Theodore didn't answer her question and said, "Don't try to change the subject."

Seeing his expression, Phoebe thought he must know, and there was no point in hiding it. She said, "I was taken away by the Economic Crime Unit, they said it was to assist in an investigation."

"Superstar Entertainment's money isn't clean?" Theodore asked pointedly, making Phoebe furious.

She glared at him, "If Superstar Entertainment's money wasn't clean, would you still be seeing me here?"

"That's true." Theodore picked up his bowl and continued eating.

He squinted his eyes, thinking that if Phoebe's company had no issues and she was still taken by the Economic Crime Unit, it could only mean someone was targeting her.

They didn't mess with someone's protégé without considering who their protector was. Since when could someone under Theodore's protection be targeted so easily? Phoebe didn't know what he was thinking. After finishing her meal, she felt somewhat better. She looked at Theodore and said, "Since I promised your mom that I would cook for you for a month, I won't go back on my word. If something comes up, the time will be extended. Can you not complain to Evelyn next time?"

"Complain?" Theodore's eyebrows furrowed, and his expression turned cold. "Phoebe, do you think you're still worth my effort?"

Phoebe was so angry at his contemptuous attitude that she had a headache. She knew he resented the existence of the triplets and was very angry with her.

But such words were also hurtful.

She muttered, "I never asked you to put in any effort."

Theodore looked up, his face cold as ice, and said, "What did you say?"

Phoebe didn't want to argue with him. She casually said, "Eat faster, I need to clean up the kitchen and go home."

"Why are you in such a hurry to go home?"

"To be with the kids, of course. They don't have a father, so I naturally need to spend more time with them." Phoebe said deliberately. The more Theodore resented the triplets' existence, the more she wanted to mention them in front of him.

To remind him constantly that she had given birth to triplets for someone else, so he wouldn't get any ideas and make her have unrealistic hopes.

Theodore's face turned grim, and he slammed the utensils on the table. He sneered, "I'd really like to know what made you go all out to have children for a jerk who slept with you and then ran away."

Phoebe met his gaze but quickly looked away. She pursed her lips, "That's my personal business."

Theodore stared at her, growing more agitated. He had thought about it for days and still couldn't understand why she did it.

Was it love at first sight with that jerk?

Or did that jerk's skills in bed conquer her, making her willing to have his children, even to this day without any regrets?

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became!

Why would she rather have children with a stranger than give him another chance to make amends? His heart was torn apart by the reasons he imagined.

Phoebe was so nervous under his gaze that she felt he might jump up and hit her at any moment. So when Theodore suddenly pushed back his chair and stood up, her instinctive reaction was to cover her head.

A stunned silence filled the room.

The dining room was excessively quiet for almost five minutes. Phoebe peeked through her arms and saw Theodore standing there stiffly.

After a moment, he strode out of the dining room.

Soon, the sound of a door slamming echoed, showing Theodore's anger.

Phoebe slowly lowered her hands. She sat in the dining room in a daze, not knowing how long she sat there. She stood up to clean the dishes and found that Theodore's food was almost untouched.

She glanced towards the dining room door.

Although she was very angry at Theodore's contemptuous tone earlier, seeing that he hadn't eaten much made her feel bad.

She cleaned the dishes and, after some hesitation at the stove, decided to cook a bowl of noodles for him.

The bedroom door was open, indicating he wasn't inside, but the study door was tightly closed.

Phoebe walked to the door and knocked. There was no response from inside. She bit her lip and pushed the door open.

The study was lit with warm yellow lights, and the man sat behind the desk, hidden in the shadows.

Phoebe looked at him and stood at the door, feeling the danger and not daring to step into his private space. "You didn't eat much earlier. I made some noodles. Do you want to eat?"

Theodore stared at her intensely. Just as Phoebe was about to break under the pressure, he said lightly, "Bring it over."

Phoebe felt relieved and brought the noodles to him, placing them in front of him.

Theodore looked down and saw a fried egg on top of the noodles. She hadn't just left but had cooked noodles for him. Could he take it as a sign that she still cared about him?

"Eat it before it gets cold," Phoebe urged.

Theodore's eyes were starting to well up with tears.

He was actually easy to appease. A kind word, a bowl of noodles, or even just a hug would make him forgive and forget.

Phoebe checked her watch. "It's getting late. After you finish, leave the bowl in the sink. I'm heading home."

Whatever gratitude he felt vanished instantly.

The Vanderbilt Group's subsidiary was under investigation, reportedly due to an anonymous tip. The Economic Crime Unit found evidence of tax evasion involving a large sum of money.

As a result, the Economic Crime Unit launched a major operation to investigate the Vanderbilt Group.

For a while, the Vanderbilt Group was in a state of panic, fearing that the headquarters would be found at fault.

Madison, on a whim, decided to bring lunch to Edward at the office.

When she walked into the company today, she noticed something was off. Everyone

was whispering, and she overheard that the Vanderbilt Group was under investigation by the Economic Crime Unit.

She took the elevator upstairs and arrived outside Edward's office, just in time to see a group of executives leaving the office dejectedly.noveldrama

She stepped aside to let them pass and then walked in with the food.

Edward stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking troubled. Her heart ached, and she quickly walked over and hugged him from behind.

Edward stiffened, then heard Madison's voice from behind, "Edward, don't worry, everything will be fine."
