Chapter 391
Serena asked curiously, "As your wife, I can help you socialize with the crowd. Why are you pushing them away?"
Wasn't that the whole point of their cooperation? Hugh worked with her precisely because he needed someone to play the role of Mrs. Larson in public and deal with all the socializing.
"They're noisy," Hugh said, giving a curt response as he led her away from the crowd.
That was just classic of him.
Serena suddenly felt like being Hugh's ally was unexpectedly comfortable. The two of them chatted quietly in a corner.
Meanwhile, Sarah's eyes were reddened with jealousy.
She had just gotten engaged today. Yet, Melissa had dragged Cole away right after the ceremony, saying something about how a newly engaged man needed some proper discipline.
She was left alone at the banquet. The Larsons couldn't care less about her. So why did Serena get everything handed to her?
The bitterness festered inside her, but she couldn't think of a way to retaliate. When her eyes landed on Rachel's belly, a plan formed in her mind. She cheerfully linked arms with Howard.
"Dad, Mom being pregnant with my little brother is such a huge deal! Since we're already celebrating, shouldn't the whole family get together?"
Howard's eyes lit up at once.
"If your mom's really having a boy, he'll be the future heir to Jansen Group. He'll become your and Serena's greatest support! Today is your engagement, and I didn't want to steal your spotlight. That's why your mom and I kept it quiet for now. But you don't seem to mind, do you?"
Of course she minded. But as much as she resented the baby in Rachel's belly, she hated seeing Serena happy even more.
Sarah forced a smile and nodded quickly.
"Of course I don't mind... It's just Serena doesn't even act like she is part of this family anymore. She has always hated Mom and me. I'm just worried she might have something to say about Mom's pregnancy. Dad, you really should talk to her. Otherwise..
"We're all living under the same roof. Wouldn't that be awful if something were to happen when it's just the two of them at home?"
Feigning concern, she tugged gently on Rachel's sleeve.
A cold gleam flashed in Rachel's eyes.
She hadn't forgotten how Serena brought Melissa home last time, which led to her miscarriage. The memory was still fresh and painful.
She immediately clung to Howard's other arm.
"Howard, last time Serena brought Melissa into our house. If she dares bring someone back again.."
"She is out of control! She already hurt the Jansen family's bloodline once. Does she plan to do it again? I'm bringing her home for a few days. It's time someone put her in her place!"
Howard clenched his jaw. There was no way he'd let Serena endanger the Jansen heir again.
Rachel and Sarah exchanged a knowing look, both wearing satisfied smiles.
A short distance away, Serena was resting in the corner when she received a message from Howard.
"Your mom left a lot of things in storage at the house. Come stay a few days and go through them."
What could Amber possibly have left behind?
After Rachel had moved into the house, she'd basically cleared out everything that belonged to

Perhaps there was really something left in the house.
"I'll be back tomorrow."
What do you think?
