Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier)

Chapter 404

Xavier's dark gaze and sullen expression made Xyla forget to cry or whine. Even the tears on her face seemed to freeze in place.

"Ms. Lynde, please follow us!"

Heaving a sigh of relief, the police immediately demanded Sarah's presence at the police station.

The hope in Sarah's eyes dwindled and eventually vanished.

She walked up to Xavier and asked, "Do you not believe me?"

He glanced at her. "Why does it matter?"

"Of course it does!" she blurted out. "All your thoughts and decisions matter a lot to me!"

Remembering that Sarah hadn't denied Bruce's claim that she was also in love with him, Xavier felt uneasy.

He'd never expected her, a work partner he'd meticulously groomed and trusted, to actually have romantic feelings for him. Their relationship was supposed to be strictly professional.

"The truth matters most to me," he replied coldly, promptly turning around and ignoring her.

Sarah's heart sank.

She knew even though Bruce's false accusations were clarified, they could never go back to how things were in the past-her feelings for Xavier had been exposed.

But as long as Xyla was still around, there was no way he could cut ties with her. She still had a chance!

"I'll cooperate. Let's go," Sarah said, exiting the ward.

The police trailed after her, leaving Xyla and Xavier alone in the ward.

It was until then that Xyla finally snapped back to her senses. She sprang to her

feet and was about to dash out when Xavier stopped her.

"Xavier, you have to save Sarah!" she cried out.

He pinned her back to the bed and said, "The truth hasn't been revealed yet. You should take care of yourself-we don't want you to end up sick instead when she's fine."

Xyla faltered. She eventually gave up and lay back down, though her gaze was still fixated on him.

"Xavier, what if..... I mean, if Sarah truly was guilty, would you forgive her?"

"No," he said. "I owe you my life, so I took your sister under my wing and groomed

her. However, that doesn't mean I'll indulge her."

Xavier was a loyal man; he despised betrayal.

Xyla bit her lip, seemingly worried about something.

On his way back to Lily's ward, Terence thought he indeed lacked the right to properly side with Lily.

One morning was all it took for Bruce's arrest to be all over the

internet. The news hadn't gonet

viral

in the first place, since he was notorious for his crimes.

But once the media revealed that Sarah was also related to the incident, the case

immediately made it to the headlines.

Five minutes ago, some media

outlets started a live broadcast in

front of the hospital. They were

livestreaming the scene where

Sarah was taken away by the police.

"Damn it! I have to see this!" Maryanne yelled, grabbing her phone and darting outside. "I'd like to see how Xavier is going to defend her in public!"

She sprinted as fast as she could, worried that the police might be dismissed if she arrived a second late.

Yet, it didn't take long for her to return.

Lily got out of her bed. Before she could spot anything wrong with the crowd of reporters in front of the hospital, Maryanne was back.

"Did the police leave already? I'm not surprised," Lily remarked, a sarcastic smirk playing on her lips. "He has lots of ways to bail Sarah out."
