Chapter 266
Chapter 266
Angeline's lips pulled into a tight and cold smile.
As expected, what she worried about most still happened.
In every company, there would always be a few old-timers who loved stirring up trouble.
Since the industry she was previously engaged in had nothing whatsoever to do with design, it was inevitable that her capability would be questioned.
Carl must have been certain that she would not be able to refute him. If not. he would not have placed her in a tough spot and risked offending her.
Standing at the front of the conference room, Angeline was just about to answer him when someone pushed open the door to the room.
“She's qualified simply because she holds the property transfer agreement of Forrester Group.”
A man's gentle and elegant voice sounded.
Clad in a white suit, Hanson walked into the room with steady strides.
Compared to the last time Angeline saw him, he had obviously lost a significant amount of weight. He was still wearing the same gold-rimmed glasses as before, which complimented the soft gaze in liis eyes.
Following closely behind him was Lillian, who held a folder in her hand.
She nodded at Angeline. “It's been a while, Ms. Sorelie.”
“Yes.” Looking at Hanson. Angeline could not help but furrow her brow. Her tone was polite and distant. “I just came for a small meeting. Since you're busy with other matters, you don't really have to come.”
She had personally invited Lillian, but she hadn't expected that Hanson would follow along.
Hanson walked up to Angeline and looked at her tenderly as though she were an old friend.
“Today's different. This is your first day at Forrester Group. Even if I had more urgent matters to attend to, I would postpone them to come and support you.”
Listening to his words, Angeline did not feel it was right to humiliate him either.
She merely responded in an aloof tone, “Thank you, then, Mr. Yiurk. I'm grateful for your support.”
Hanson looked at Angeline's face, liis gaze filled with scrutiny. Upon noticing the maturity in her expression, he seemed rather surprised as well.
“Why are you all still standing around? Don't you see that Mr. Yiurk is here? Quickly grab him a chair!” Carl ordered liis subordinates at once.
As soon as Hanson arrived, Carl seemed to have completely transformed into another person. His face was filled with undisguised eagerness to please Hanson.
“What an honor to have you here, Mr. Yiurk. I'm sorry that I wasn't anticipating your presence, or I would've prepared everything for you beforehand.”
“No need for the trouble.” Hanson's expression was quite serious, but liis voice sounded as gentle and soothing as before. “I just stopped by on my way to deal with other matters. I heard your discussion as I was coming in earlier. It seems you're not happy with Ms. Sorelle's arrival.”
“Nothing like that!” Carl immediately denied it, waving liis hands before him. Smiling ingratiatingly, he went on. “How would that be possible? We wouldn't dare to do that. It's just that Ms. Sorelie doesn't have experience in design, and we were worried that this isn't the most suitable company for her.” Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Hanson chuckled lightly. Glancing at Angeline's calm profile, he could not help being impressed by her mental strength.
“In that case, you've severely underestimated her.”
“What do you mean?” Taken aback. Carl looked at Hanson in confusion.
At that moment, Lillian stepped forward from behind Hanson and explained in a solemn tone. “Although Ms. Sorelie didn't major in design during her university years, she was influenced by Mrs. Sorelle since she was a child and is very artistic herself. For instance, Ms. Sorelle was the creator of Galaxy, the fashion series that was produced by Forrester Group and blew up seven years ago.”
As she spoke, Lillian took out a CD from her folder and inserted it into the projector, playing the footage of Galaxy's fashion exhibition from back then.
At the same time, it also brought Angeline's memories back to the past.
In her memories, her mother, Cynthia, had brought her along to every design class.
Angeline seemed to have a natural talent for design as well and created the designs for the Galaxy series when she was merely fifteen.
Back then, when Cynthia saw her work, she had been so excited that she almost skipped an entire night's sleep and spent the whole night refining the design instead.
Later, she also hired professional models, turning that series into the highlight of the exhibition.
Galaxy quickly became a global phenomenon. Some companies even bought the copyright of the design, using it for magazines, phone cases, pendants, and other similar ornaments.
The design was a work that Angeline and her mother had created together. It was also one of Angeline's accomplishments that gave her the most pride.
As the footage of the exhibition came to an end, she remained immersed in her memories, unable to snap out of her reverie.
The footage clearly hit a nerve in her. and tears slowly began rolling down her cheeks.
She reached out and wiped them away quickly.
As a fifteen-year-old, she had seen the world through rose-colored glasses, and the Galaxy series bore all the hopes she had for the world.
Back then, she had never expected that ten years later, both her parents would leave her side forever and that her life would be so miserable.
Despite all the emotions that had emerged within her, on the present occasion, she could only pull herself together swiftly and continue fighting the battle she was facing.
“Although the Galaxy series gained popularity as a product created by Forrester Group, I was the designer who was responsible for creating it. Feel free to investigate the matter if you don't believe it, and I promise to cooperate with your efforts.” Feeling more confident now, Angeline turned toward Carl with a sharp gaze. “As someone who handles financial matters, your expertise doesn't seem to have anything to do with designing either. Yet, you're questioning me so boldly and self-righteously, which makes me wonder—do you have some work to show us as well?”
Carl instantly blushed in embarrassment when he heard her words, feeling especially humiliated since this was happening in front of liis subordinates.
Never had he expected Angeline to have such a significant experience in design, and he now had no way of finding fault with her anymore.
“I don't.” Gritting liis teeth, he could only swallow liis grievances. “Please forgive my ignorance.”
“It's fine. Such conflicts are normal in the workplace.”
Angeline chuckled lightly, gazing at Carl squarely as though she could see through liis thoughts at a glance.
Although liis attitude seemed positive on the surface, liis eyes were brimming with hatred. It was apparent that the two would continue to be at odds with each other in the future.
Even though Carl was difficult, he was a long-time employee that was transferred from Yiurk Group and was considered one of the more experienced professionals in the company.
As someone who had just taken over Forrester Group, Angeline was in desperate need of capable employees.
She had no plans to fire Carl, but she would not allow him to cross the line with her either.
With that, she took out a document and handed it to him.
“Mi\ Lipton, since this is our first meeting, let's not end on a bad note. Here's a gift for you,” she stated in a slightly softer tone.
Her words sent goosebumps all over Carl's body, and he felt as if the room had turned cold suddenly.
However, since there were so many eyes on him, even if the document was a bomb, he still had no choice but to accept it.
“Why, thank you, Ms. Sorelle.”
He forced a smile, which somehow made him look even uglier than if he had simply cried.
Angeline raised her eyebrows faintly. What a relief now that a big problem has been solved!
