Chapter 81
Chapter 81
Jacob rinsed his mouth several times by the toilet bowl until the weird taste in his mouth was finally washed away.
When he returned to the dining table, he no longer had any appetite as he looked at the tasty dishes.
Angeline discarded the burnt prawns and felt bad upon seeing Jacob’s pale face. She served him another bowl of soup and said, “You just vomited all the food you ate. Have some soup to replenish your energy.”
As soon as the bowl was placed in front of him, Jacob retched and said with a troubled expression, “Angie, I don’t think I can eat anymore.”
Upon hearing that, Angeline quickly took the bowl away from him and remarked, “Then, you should go and rest on the couch.”
“Okay. Thank you, Angie,” he said apologetically. He didn’t want to disappoint Angeline, but he felt terrible at that moment and didn’t have the energy.
With that thought in mind, he turned around and shot daggers at Evander. I’m here suffering, yet he and Floretta are savoring the dishes. How outrageous!
The mere sight of Evander enjoying Angeline’s cooking caused fury to swell in Jacob’s heart, and he spun on his heels to leave the dining room. This is unbelievable! I will get my revenge sooner or later!
After dinner, Floretta insisted on helping Angeline to wash the dishes. Failing to dissuade the stubborn little girl, Angeline gave in upon seeing that Evander wasn’t against it. She brought Floretta to the kitchen and helped her roll up her sleeves before teaching her how to scrub the dishes step by step.
Floretta was a smart little girl, and she mastered the skills quickly.
It was already past ten at night when they finished cleaning up.
Considering that Jacob still had to work early the next morning, Angeline stepped out of the kitchen and offered, “Go on home. The next time you come, I’ll make some more delicacies to compensate you.”
Jacob’s mood was lifted when he heard Angeline’s words.
The next moment, he looked at Evander, who was sitting on the couch with the remote control in hand, showing no intention of leaving. He asked directly, “What about him? It’s getting late. Is he staying over?”
Angeline’s face turned bright red at that. “Nonsense! Mr. Golding has a fiancée. Don’t make jokes like that.”
Jacob straightened his back and said smugly to Evander, “Did you hear that? You have a fiancée!”
Evander leisurely picked up the glass of water in front of him. “Mr. Zane, when I leave is none of your business.”
“What do you mean?” Jacob panicked. “This is Angie’s place. Who says you can stay here and be a nuisance to her?”
“Floretta hasn’t had enough fun.” Evander’s gaze fell on the little girl who was playing with toy blocks in front of the television. His lips curled into a faint smile. “She said it’s been a long time since she saw Angeline, so she wants to play with her a little longer.”
Jacob didn’t know how to refute Evander’s explanation.
D*mn it! You’re just using your child as an advantage!
As a result, the two men refused to give in to each other and continued sitting on the couch, not willing to leave. They remained in a stalemate until another hour passed.
Evander glanced at his watch to check the time before picking Floretta up and saying in a deep voice, “We should go. It’s time for you to sleep.”
Tuckered out, the little girl yawned and leaned against her father, allowing him and Angeline to help her put on her coat.
“Be careful on your way back,” Angeline said worriedly as she walked them to the door.
“Bye, Angel. Bye, Jac,” Floretta said in a soft voice as she waved them goodbye.
Evander put on his shoes and stood at the entrance while his cold and stern gaze fell onto Jacob, seemingly sending the latter a silent warning.
Evander’s glare caused a chill to run down Jacob’s spine. Nonetheless, he couldn’t care less about that since his greatest threat was leaving. He put on his coat and prepared to leave as well.
Angeline took her keys and was about to walk them to the exit of the residential area, but just as she pushed the door open, she saw Evander walking back with Floretta in his arms.
As soon as Jacob saw him, he had his guard up and nervously asked, “Mr. Golding, what are you doing back here?”
Evander ignored him and looked at Angeline, saying solemnly, “There are a lot of reporters waiting at the entrance of the residential area.” This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Angeline fell silent, and her expression turned grim. Biting her lip, her hands balled into fists.
I should’ve seen this coming. Since Joseline exposed me, I should’ve known that she would also leak my current address.
I, as a famous female celebrity, was exposed for being pregnant out of wedlock. Most importantly, I was never involved in any scandals before this. Naturally, such an incident will attract the public’s attention. Whichever media outlet manages to take a picture of me in my current predicament will definitely become popular.
Jacob did not seem convinced as he scrutinized Evander inquisitively. “So, we should believe you since you said there are reporters out there? Who knows? Maybe you’re trying to make up an excuse to stay the night at Angie’s house.”
Evander eyed him with disdain and scoffed, “Do you think those reporters would leave tomorrow morning after waiting here for the whole night? They’re obviously prepared for a long battle. A new batch of reporters will replace them the next morning.”
Upon hearing what he said, Jacob started panicking. He could not help but curse, “F*ck. I still have a movie to shoot early tomorrow morning. If something were to happen, the director would yell at me!”
“That’s enough.”
Angeline’s head ached from their constant arguing. As she pondered about it, she said, “We need to come up with a plan.”
She couldn’t possibly hide in the house just to avoid the reporters for the following days.
While she was at her wit’s end, Evander piped up calmly, “There’s a way to distract the reporters.”
Angeline’s eyes lit up as she quickly approached him and asked, “What is it?”
Evander glanced at Jacob and suggested in a deep voice, “Let him go out there and distract the reporters. Sylas will pick him up at the entrance and bring him to a safe place.”
Angeline mulled it over and thought that it was a great idea.
Then again, why would Jacob be willing to sacrifice himself for me? We’re not that well acquainted anyway.
“I don’t mind if it’s for the sake of Angie, but why do I feel like you have other intentions?” Jacob asked, glancing at Evander skeptically. Something’s clearly off.
“You’re overthinking. Angeline will be in danger if you don’t leave,” Evander replied. That aloof and unapproachable aura of his gave him an air of chivalry.
For Angeline’s sake, Jacob made up his mind and took off his cap and sunglasses. He only had his black mask on, so it would not be hard for the reporters to identify him.
After saying goodbye to Angeline, he quickly got into the elevator. When he reached the ground floor, he walked toward the residential area’s entrance alone.
Guilt and uneasiness inundated Angeline as she watched him leave. She then hurried toward the balcony to keep an eye on him.
I hope he’ll be all right!
