Chapter 712
Chapter 712 An Elaborate Scheme
Meanwhile, a crowd was gathering on the street, including the two car owners who had been arguing just a short while ago.
“How are the people inside? Can they hear us talking?” one asked.
“The driver who caused the accident is utterly despicable. They actually did a hit- and–run! Forget about taking responsibility, he didn’t even bother to check on the situation,” another commented.
“Let’s not talk about that and call the police already.”
When Lysander heard them talking, a glimmer of hope sparked within her. She interjected anxiously, “I… I have children in my car. Can you rescue them first…”
Josiah’s whereabouts are still a mystery, and the driver who caused the accident has fled the scene. It’s hard to rule out the possibility that Tiffany, fearing her hostage would disobey, colluded with those who want to destabilize Guerra Group to intimidate me. Rushing to call the police at this point will only complicate matters further and work against our favor.
The passersby were very understanding, and someone immediately responded, “All right. We’ll think of something right away. Don’t worry.”
“Thank you, everyone!” Even as Lysander spoke, she did not just sit back and wait for others to rescue her. Instead, she exerted all her strength in an attempt to pry open the car door that had twisted out of shape from the collision.
The van had come prepared, deliberately targeting the unoccupied passenger seat. No one was seriously hurt, but there was a deep dent in the car door.
They were sending a warning that if Lysander continued meddling in the affairs, there was no telling what might happen next time.
The passersby who came to their aid were all eager to help. Several people tried to pry open the car door for a while, but when they saw it would not budge, they decided to fetch some tools. Working together, it took them some time to finally crack open a small gap.
Upon seeing that, Lysander gently nudged Nilou. “Among us, you’re the slimmest and most nimble. You should go first.”
Nilou was aware that time was of the essence She hastily grabbed the car door and

used both her hands and feet to squeeze out through the opening.
Since Lysander was an adult, moving around after the accident was the most. challenging for her. Nonetheless, she endured the discomfort and pain all over her body and passed the crying Aurora out to someone. She also did not forget to give Rhizone a hand.
After the children were rescued, she finally let out the breath she had been holding, and she felt a sharp pain.
Seeing that, the passersby who were helping did not give up but persisted in prying the car door open with tools.
Meanwhile, Nilou mimicked what Lysander had done to calm Aurora until the baby’s cries finally grew softer.
Calming babies was not Rhizone’s forte, so he assisted the passersby in prying open the car door. Once the opening was wide enough for an adult to pass. through, he promptly reached in to pull Lysander out.
“Dr. Thorne, give me your hand… I’m not strong enough. Wait a moment. I’ll ask everyone to come and help…”
The passersby who had been so kind just moments before were now watching from the side. Instead of going to help Rhizone, however, they waved to someone in the distance.
Slowly and quietly, the van that had lost control earlier pulled up nearby.
Before Lysander could even emerge, the expressions of the two car owners involved in the fender bender suddenly darkened. Then, they picked up Nilou and Rhizone without warning and headed straight toward the van.
The two were only children and were no match for an adult’s strength.
Nilou had Aurora in her arms and was even more powerless to resist. With a scream, she was thrown into the van.
Rhizone struggled fiercely, but the person who was holding on to him was obviously well–prepared and much stronger, promptly knocking him unconscious and hauling him into the vehicle.
The next moment, the van sped off, leaving Lysander behind.

It was not a particularly remote road, yet by some stroke of bad luck, the car she
as in had been hit with so much force during the accident that it had broken through the guardrail and plunged directly into the vegetation on one side, making it difficult for anyone to spot it once it was dark.
And now, the only person who remained at the scene was a so–called “good Samaritan” who had turned hostile.
No sooner had she crawled out of the car than she hurt her arm again. There was no way she would stand a chance against a grown man. Looking around and noticing that the surveillance cameras‘ line of sight had been obstructed beforehand, she cut to the chase and said, “Let the three children go, and we can talk.”
The man studied her carefully, his intentions far from friendly as he queried, “You’re Lysander Thorne, aren’t you?”
Observing that he seemed to have an ulterior motive, she surmised that the children taken as hostages would not be harmed in the short term. She maintained her composure as she answered, “That’s me. If it’s money you’re after, name your price.”
“I need you to come with us.” He reached out to grab her, then started dragging her toward another car with a firm and unyielding grip.
He meant to separate her from the kids.
She braced herself against the car door, unwilling to let the chance to get help slip. away. However, her phone was still in her car, and no other vehicles were passing by. All she could do was try her best to buy some time.
“I can do as you say, but you must explain everything first. Otherwise, I’m not going anywhere,” she said. If these people truly wanted to kill me, they could’ve made their move just now. But they didn’t. That means there’s still room for negotiation.
The elaborate scheme was clearly set up to target Lysander. Her breaths came in quick gasps as she braced herself against the car door with her free hand, refusing to get in the car no matter how much the man and his accomplice tried to force her.
The pain radiating from her wrist was becoming increasingly intense, and she felt as though her wrist was on the verge of dislocating. Despite that, she did not let go. Instead, she gritted her teeth against the pain, tore off a button from her sleeve,

and tossed it into the car.
The man saw Lysander’s face turn pale from pain, yet he refused to let go of her hand, fearing that something might go wrong at such a critical point.
After all, their accomplices were still stuck at the police station!
“We didn’t seek you out with any other intentions. We simply wished to persuade Mr. Guerra to be more cooperative. Since he didn’t respond to friendly
persuasion, naturally, we had to resort to a tougher approach. As for who’s behind. all this… you’ll find out once you get there.”
As expected, they don’t know Josiah’s whereabouts.
She widened her eyes. “You-”
Her voice trailed off suddenly. Sensing that she let her guard down for a moment, the man seized the opportunity to pick up the tool they had used to pry the door open and aimed it at her neck.
His accomplice swiftly dragged her into another car, and they fled the scene as quickly as possible, leaving the overturned car there for others to clean up the
mess.
While in a dazed and confused state, Lysander felt a pang of intense pain. She felt groggy, and the pain in her nape was so severe that her neck seemed as though it was about to snap off.
The thought that it would be easier to let herself lose consciousness than endure such torment flashed across her mind, only to be replaced by images of the children and Josiah the very next moment.
They’re still waiting for me!
Lysander had to muster all her willpower to wake up from her dazed state, only to find herself in a dimly lit warehouse. She blinked, trying to make out her surroundings, but it was too dark.
She guessed that it was probably nighttime already.
Ropes bound her hands and feet, and although she was not blindfolded, she could not deduce her exact location just by studying her surroundings. As for shouting for help, that was utterly out of the question.

The fact that these people dared to bring me to such a place is a clear sign that there’s absolutely no one around here.
As she racked her brains for a solution, an oily voice rang out from a corner. “Oh, you’re awake.”
Then, the light flickered on.
