Chapter 979
"If you're so determined to win her over, then I'll grant you this opportunity."
Perhaps it was the overwhelming sadness, or maybe the sedatives at work, but Evadne slept for a long while.
When she finally opened her swollen eyes, all she could see was Avery.
"Evadne, you're awake!"
Avery gripped her delicate hand, caressing and kissing it with a fervor thatnoveldrama
bordered on tears. "You've been asleep for a whole day and night. I was terrified...
I feared something had happened to your health!
While you were out, I had a doctor come over and give you an IV drip. You can't keep starving yourself like this. Even if you despise me, you shouldn't punish yourself. Is it worth it?"
Evadne, a doctor herself, knew she was reaching her limit.
Avery, the scoundrel, was right. Even if she wanted to end him, she needed her strength.
"I want... some meat," Evadne murmured, her pale lips barely moving, without looking at him.
For the first time in five days, Avery received a normal response from her. His eyes twitched with joy, "Alright... I'll have the kitchen prepare something right away! Evadne, just hang on!"
In less than an hour, the kitchen had prepared a feast fit for royalty.
Two maids wheeled Evadne into the bathroom to help her with her ablutions and to get dressed.
When she emerged, there was a hint of color on her face, though she remained painfully thin.
Avery, his gaze heavy with desire, strode forward, scooped her from the wheelchair into his arms, and held her close to his chest.
A wave of hatred flashed in Evadne's eyes, but her limbs were too weak to resist.
With tender care, Avery carried her to the dining room.
He kept her on his lap, enveloped in his arms, his suit crumpled without care.
"Evadne, since it's hard for you to move, let me feed you."
Gazing at her with affection and indulgence, Avery skillfully cut the steak into bite- sized pieces, patiently feeding her.
On ROSE Island, everyone knew of Mr. Chambers' patience, reserved only for Ms. Evadne.
Bite after bite, Evadne finished the steak without protest.
Her once bright eyes were now dulled, losing their clarity and vivacity.
Like stagnant water.
"Good girl."
Avery, delighted, his eyes moist, gently caressed her cheek. "Eat well and get a
bit healthier. You'll look stunning in a wedding dress.
Of course, my Evadne, you're beautiful now as well."
Remembering the memory-erasing drugs made Evadne shudder.
She dared not resist his plans for marriage too vehemently, nor did she appease him.
She remained silent.
A lady of pride, at her limit, but unyielding.
"After you rest a bit, I'll take you to see the rose garden I've been cultivating. I plan for us to marry there," Avery said, wiping her lips gently with a napkin.
Evadne's expression was blank, her silence continuing.
Yet, to Avery, it was as if his heart was soaring with joy.
He thought, after five days and nights of turmoil, she had finally given in. Even if
she still hated him, she was too exhausted to fight.
Still, he didn't dare to stop administering the sedatives, only reducing the dosage slightly.
Just then, a servant hurried in with news.
"Mr. Chambers."
"What is it?" Avery asked, offering Evadne some juice, his tone indifferent.
"Sir, we have visitors on the island."
What do you think?
