Chapter 0040
Side girl? Amara repeated in her mind, her eyes narrowing.
Bethany, however, looked a bit taken back. She glanced at Amara in a totally new light.
"Ms. Miller, I seem to have misjudged you."
Amara's eyes twitched when hearing how formally Bethany had addressed her. She briefly glanced at Jasper and caught him smirking. That bastard.
"You did?" Amara said, not bothered by Bethany's reaction at all. "And how did you Misjudge me?"NôvelDrama.Org © content.
"You're the president's special one, aren't you?"
Amara chuckled. "No, not at all."
"But Jasper-"
"Mr. Reynolds is simply saying what he has heard in rumors."
"So you're not the president's special one." Bethany confirmed.
"Of course not," Amara stated. "Society nowadays tries hard to slander divorcee, thus, I don't have time to engage in such activities."
"Divorcee?" Bethany repeated, a bit surprised.
Amara nodded. "Yes, divorced. I recently underwent a divorce with my husband."
Bethany's eyes saddened, feeling sympathy for the woman in front of her. She had no clue why she had assumed Amara was the president's special one, but the fact that the younger female was a divorcee had her sympathizing. She knew exactly what it felt like to have her heart broken by someone she trusted and loved. She knew what it was like to feel betrayed.
"I'm sorry to hear that." She sincerely apologized and Amara nodded. "But, if I'm not being rude, may I ask why you divorced your husband."
For the first time, Amara took on a genuine expression. She smiled faintly. "We didn't love one another, so I couldn't continue living in a loveless marriage."
"Or was it because your husband caught you cheating." Jasper mused, earning the attention of both Bethany and Amara. "Rumor has it," He shrugged.
"Rumor has it?" Amara reached into her bag and pulled out her phone, flashing the ongoing recording in Jasper's face. "Can you say that again?"
Jasper choked on whatever more he had to say and Amara smirked.
"What, didn't you have a lot of confidence a few minutes ago? What happened to all that? Go ahead and show me more, that way, I won't feel guilty when I'm turning this in for my lawyers to listen to." Jasper gritted his teeth as all his words died in his throat.
"E-enough. That's enough please."
Bethany interrupted before either of them could say anymore, but it was clear on her face that she had been impressed by how Amara handled the situation right now. "I think ve heard enough," She turned to Amara. "Amara please don't be offended, but today, it seems like I won't be
able to take you to see my mother."
Amara stopped her smile from flatter. "Is that so?"
"Yes, you see, my mother is very strict when it comes to rumors like this one, although I believe you, my mother might not, so just give me a little time, let me get things ready." Amara nodded.
"And Jasper," Bethany turned to him, her expression far less friendly then when she spoke with Amara. "Thank you for informing me of this today, but I suggest you don't pointlessly run your mouth in the future as it can put you in trouble." "O-of course."
"I must leave now, I'd be sure to call either of you if my mother takes a look at Synergy's proposal." With that, she bowed, turned and left.
"You're definitely going to lose this project." Jasper said as he stuffed his hand into his pocket and looked at Amara with a smug expression. "You're acting so confident?"
"And you're acting as if you're not aware of Labyrinth's involvement."
Amara's entire expression crumbled. "What?"
"Labyrinth's also pursing a deal with Madam Sinclair, weren't you aware of this?" Jasper laughed loudly. "You're definitely going to lose, because even if you're the president's mistress, in the entire city, no one is more feared that Tobias Larsen." Mockingly, he
reached forward and patted Amara's shoulder. "I look forward to seeing you face defeat, Spitfire."
With that, he walked off, leaving Amara to stare at the spot where he stood with one thought in mind.
Tobias was chasing the exact same deal with Gemini?
Panic alarms went off in her head and Amara fished out her phone, ringing up her assistant.
"Yes Ms. Amara?"
"Labyrinth, are they also pursuing a deal with Madam Sinclair?" She immediately asked.
"Huh?" The sound of keyboard keys clicking were heard in the background before Duncan answered. "Yes. It says here that Labyrinth is also pursuing a deal with Madam Sinclair."
Amara's hand tightened around her phone as soon as she heard this.
Shit, how had she missed something like this? If Labyrinth truly was in on this, then her chances of securing that deal had just dropped because in the entire city, no one was better at snagging deal than her ex husband himself.
But despite knowing this, Amara's
resolve hardened and she became even more determined not to lose this case not only because she knew losing meant agreeing to
arranged marriage her grandnet
suggested, but also because's had lost far too many times to Tobias in life.
And this time around...
"I'm not going to lose."
