But Baker wasn’t as relaxed. His eyes narrowed. “Lamont must’ve pulled some trick to fake his death. We need to keep him in check. If Mr. Clark’s people figure out the truth, we will be in trouble. Lamont wants five hundred thousand— we’ll give it to him. But make it clear this is the last time. Tell him to stay away from us after this.”

Holley hesitated. “You and I both know he won’t just walk away that easily.”

Baker tapped his fingers against the table, considering the situation. “Let’s just do this for now. If this doesn’t work, I’ll come up with another plan.”
