Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Zoe emerged from the restroom, her complexion not looking good. Mason lowered his highball glass, glancing at her. "What's wrong? Are you unwell? I'll tell Mr. Terrence that we're leaving."
Zoe did not refuse.
Mason sent a message to Terrence and then left with Zoe.
Seated in the car, he turned to look at her, a tenderness on his face that had never been there before.
"The project should be in my hands. I owe it to you, Mrs. Lockwood. I never knew you were so capable."
Zoe leaned back against the leather seat. She was too exhausted after a busy day to even lift a finger. After a while, she turned to meet his gaze, her voice soft and gentle.
"Actually, I've always been like this. It's just that you never noticed."
Throughout the three years of marriage, most of his time spent with her was in bed. Other than that, he was either working or with Lilith in Hucksburgh.
Any emotions Zoe had were worn away. Now, his sudden tenderness did not move her.
Her serene demeanor was quite alluring. Mason could not help but lower his head to kiss her.
She looked up at him with that gentle expression and interrupted, "Mason, that 300 thousand doesn't include sleeping with you. I remember you always kept your personal and professional life separate."
Mason's heart softened. He kissed the palm of her hand, his voice low. "In the past, you used to beg me to sleep with you. You clung to me like a kitten, not letting me go. Have you forgotten?"
Zoe's fair face flushed slightly. She could not bear to look at him. "That's enough."
…
Mason did not continue. He gently pressed the accelerator to take her away. The place was quite far from where she lived, roughly an hour's drive.
Zoe was too tired. After half an hour, she leaned on the back of the seat and fell asleep.
When she woke up, the car was parked downstairs at her place. She felt a bit dazed, her voice hoarse. "That was fast. Thank you for bringing me back. I'll dry clean the dress and return it to you later."
Zoe was about to get out of the car when Mason grabbed her waist, pulling her into his arms. With a press of a button, the seat leaned backward.
Zoe lay in his arms. She wanted to break free, but Mason gently held her down by her waist. Afraid he could not control himself, she dared not move recklessly.
Mason tenderly kissed her, changing the angle and deepening the kiss. His warm palm gently traced her slender waistline, all while asking in a low, hoarse voice, "Do you like this? Zoe, do you like how I kiss you?"
Zoe remained silent. She could not break free and did not want to respond to him, feeling embarrassed.
After a long time, Mason finally had enough of kissing. Leaning against her forehead, he gently urged her to calm down. He stared at her face, observing her reactions. Zoe buried her face in his
neck.
This was more touching than the kisses and touches from just now.
Mason turned, kissing her nose, then remained silent, holding her as if they were a loving couple. Yet, Zoe knew they were not.
This brief tenderness was just dopamine playing tricks on Mason.
"What are you thinking about?" Mason asked her.
When he received no response, he used his warm fingers to find her lips, gently caressing them.
"How about going upstairs to cook me something? I haven't eaten anything all night." Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
Zoe declined. "It's inconvenient."
Mason gave her a kiss. "How about 15 thousand dollars for a meal, Mrs. Lockwood?"
For the money, Zoe surrendered.
Mason leaned over, opening the car door for Zoe. As she was about to get out, Mason suddenly grabbed her hand.
Zoe turned to look at him.
