Chapter 404
Miranda Lancaster fluttered her eyelashes innocently.
"What?"
Elian Ashcroft shot back, "Don't play cute!"
Miranda stopped blinking, raising an eyebrow. "And if not that, then what?"
In this particular situation, Sebastian Everhart had just posted a picture of her, which led to some misunderstandings. But since Sebastian had given her a heads-up, she wasn't bothered by it.
After all, being somewhat of a public figure, Miranda was used to rumors and didn't care much about them. However, if Sebastian hadn't informed her beforehand, she might have found it inappropriate.
Elian was so worked up that he slung an arm over the back of the chair, insisting, "He posted your picture on purpose, with an agenda! I mean, what guy just
randomly posts a girl's picture on Facebook?"
Miranda shrugged, "Well, William does it all the time."
Elian retorted, "He doesn't count!"
William's posts of Miranda were part of his job, nothing more.
Miranda frowned, "Marion often posts my pictures too."
Elian froze, trying to place the name. Marion? Who's this new guy?
Then it clicked. Marion was
Miranda's old cellmate. After being released, he joined forces withnoveldrama
Vel
Miranda, setting up an entertainment company and an investment group. Officially, be was just the CEO of the company Miranda was signed under, but in reality, it was the other way around. Miranda was the one in charge.
This aspect had come up during a military briefing when they
discussed Miranda, who had
recently been added to a specialnet
protection list. Not just Marion, but all her close associates were mentioned, including the genius girl living with her, who was being sought after by every major academic and medical institution.
"He's different," Elian insisted coldly.
Miranda was silent, sensing Elian's anxiety.
Why would she worry, though? It was Elian who seemed to be on edge. She hadn't picked up on Sebastian's intentions at all. Elian wasn't mad at Miranda; he was worried that if she remained unaware, she might one day fall for Sebastian's tricks.
While Miranda was undoubtedly smart, she often missed subtle hints of someone's interest unless they were glaringly obvious.
Even though Elian didn't have much experience with relationships himself, he knew Sebastian well enough to see through him.
"Anyway, he's up to no good. Don't trust him completely," Elian warned seriously. "Sebastian isn't as squeaky clean as he appears. He's sly. Just keep your distance."
Miranda knew Elian and Sebastian
didn't get along. Jasper Vane had
told her they'd been at odds since childhood. While she was aware that Sebastian was more complex than he seemed, she generally didn't concern herself with the ulterior motives of those who didn't mean her harm.
After all, she and Sebastian were nothing more than casual friends, maybe even
less so, just acquaintances with a professional connection now.
Curious, she asked, "Do you and Sebastian have some sort of feud?"
Elian snorted, "Feud? Not really a feud."
What do you think?
