Chapter 124: Waves of Doubt
The team bus slowly decelerated as the bustling crowd blocked the road completely. Through the windows, one could see faces twisted into bizarre expressions of either enthusiasm or ferocity, distorted by cheers and screams, pounding on the bus's body with all their might, trying to attract the players' attention.
"Get out, Bambi!"
"We don't need a baby! We need a superhero!"
"Luke No No No!"
"Earth is too dangerous for you. E.T. go home."
"Do you know what you're doing? Are you sure?"
Bright and glaring signs filled every corner of the view, with overwhelming curses and rejections, leaving no hope in sight. The relentless wave of negativity stretched out like an endless gloom, cutting off any chance of escape, leaving not even a tiny foothold. In the distance, a small group of about a hundred people could be seen, holding up "Number 14" jerseys with a bright red "NO" beside them. They were chanting in unison, "No! No! No!" The simple yet powerful words came crashing down like a tidal wave, suffocating anyone in their path.
"Bambi, are you okay?" Logan patted Luke's arm, asking with concern.
Marcus, sitting in the back, also stood up, placing his hands on Luke's shoulders and giving him a comforting massage. "Don't pay attention to those clowns. They're just echoing each other, not knowing what they're doing."
Luke turned his head and smiled at his friends. "Now you understand how tough my life used to be, right?" His self-deprecating remark left Logan and Marcus momentarily stunned. Whenever people talk about racial discrimination, it often refers specifically to African Americans. But in America's immigrant society, Asians are actually at the bottom of the food chain.
"Don't worry. If I were afraid, I wouldn't have chosen football in the first place." Luke's eyes sparkled with confidence. "The best way to face doubt is to confront it head-on and give them a hard slap in the face." His decisive words showed no fear or hesitation, but rather a readiness to fight.
Luke turned his head again to look out the window. "Besides, they've crossed my line." His parents were Luke's bottom line.
Fans could question him, attack him, and hate him all they wanted; that was something he had to face. When he chose the path of a professional athlete, he knew this. But they couldn't insult his parents-no one could! For the first time, Luke's desire for victory reached an unprecedented peak.
Beyond that, there was another reason why tonight's game couldn't be lost: the Seattle Seahawks.
Fate seemed to have come full circle, and once again, he found himself facing the Seattle Seahawks.
The insults and discrimination he faced during rookie training camp with the Seattle Seahawks were still fresh in his mind.
Luke knew that standing on the football field, discrimination was a challenge he had to face, just like when African Americans first stepped onto the field. It wasn't just the Seattle Seahawks; the entire league, all the media, and countless spectators would be filled with contempt, provocation, and disdain. Every step he took would carry the burden of proving himself and the struggle to overcome discrimination.
Now, Luke faced his first challenge. His first professional game was against the Seattle Seahawks, a fitting and interesting opponent.
It wasn't just about proving himself, making a name, or teaching his opponents a lesson; it was about winning. Using victory to kickstart his career and secure a place in the professional arena!
For his parents, for himself, for the future, and for victory. Luke could find a thousand reasons why he had to win today's game. Most importantly, he chose to persevere and pursue a professional career for his dreams, not for failure.
Seattle Seahawks, here I come.
Luke couldn't help but clench his fist, his entire body filled with fighting spirit.
Watching Luke's profile, Logan and Marcus exchanged a glance, both starting to gear up: Was the bloody Bambi coming out tonight?
The team bus stopped in front of the stadium tunnel, and the players disembarked one by one, entering the field. The raging wind carried the tumultuous cries, "Go away! Go away! Go away!"
Even without being named, the target was obvious. Watching Luke's determined back, Logan couldn't hold back and flipped the bird, cursing, "Screw you! Have you ever watched Bambi play? You don't know shit!"
Logan was just a rookie with no fan base. His provocative behavior immediately triggered even more vicious curses. Alton happened to pass by and pulled Logan back from his impulsive act.
Then, Alton shouted at the fans, "You should be ashamed. We need your support. There's already enough cursing from the other side of the field." After shouting, Alton didn't look back and dragged Logan away.
As this year's first-round pick for the team, Alton still had quite a few supporters. His words immediately made the fans pause, and the wave of curses gradually subsided.

Entering the stadium tunnel, reporters standing on both sides extended their microphones, eagerly asking questions, "Luke, as the first starting Avalis American quarterback, how do you feel?", "Luke, do you have confidence in tonight's game?", "With the ongoing wave of doubt, do you have any response?"
The reporters were so overwhelming that the players' steps were involuntarily affected. Amidst the chaotic questions, one caught Luke's attention:
"Seattle Seahawks' head coach Peter Carroll said he had no impression of you during rookie training camp. Clearly, there are more outstanding players among this year's rookies than you. What do you think about that?"
According to league regulations, to avoid affecting players' competitive state, pre- game interviews are optional; but post-game interviews are mandatory. However, Luke stopped, turned back, and looked for the source of the voice in the crowd, then smiled, "Maybe you can remind Mr. Carroll of the keyword 'Avalis American player.' That should jog his memory. I think he has made his stance clear enough on Avalis American players; at least, he shouldn't forget." Although Luke didn't say it outright, the implication was clear: Peter knew Luke, and they had some unpleasant memories because of the "Avalis American" identity.
The entire league was questioning the ability of an "Avalis American" quarterback, and Peter was clearly not alone in this; but now, the person involved had brought it up directly. Under the guidance of political correctness, the reporters naturally couldn't say much, but the subsequent instigation was bound to be plentiful.
If the Seattle Seahawks won today's game, it might create a sensational post-game interview.
"So, do you have anything to say about today's game?" the reporter pressed again. Luke gave a big smile, "I hope they found the quarterback they need."
There's no point in saying more; the truth will be revealed on the field. In the world of competitive sports, the winner takes all, and the loser is left with nothing. It's that simple and that brutal.
Then, another question came to Luke's ears, drawing his attention, "Will you be throwing in Richard Sherman's direction in this afternoon's game?"
Luke paused slightly, a full-on amused expression on his face that he couldn't shake off.
Richard Sherman? Why did he bring himself up again? Luke almost wondered if Richard had a crush on him. They had no interaction, no conflict, yet Richard kept fixating on him. What was going on?

Originally, Luke was going to respond, not with anger but with absurdity, even finding it somewhat funny. But Geep's footsteps came up from behind, and he patted Luke's shoulder, "Head to the locker room. Do the interviews after the game." Before the game, it's best to avoid confrontations with reporters, especially for inexperienced rookie players whose emotions can easily be provoked, affecting their game state. So, Luke had to swallow his words and follow his teammates into the locker room.
Amidst the noisy discussions, the sound in Luke's mind remained clear and precise, cutting through all the noise and ringing directly in the depths of his mind, like lighting a torch.
"Game tasks," long-awaited, beyond the daily training tasks, game tasks appeared once again.
As the starting quarterback about to play his first professional game, Luke's sense of reality had never been clearer. Interestingly, this was Luke's first official start since college, skipping the NCAA and directly achieving such a feat in the NFL. It was a special beginning.
"Complete your first pass in an official game; task requirement: none; task reward: +1 basic point.
Complete your first touchdown in an official game; task requirement: none; task reward: +1 basic point.
Complete a touchdown in an official game; task requirement: none; task reward: +1 basic point for each touchdown.
Complete passing yards in an official game; task requirement: at least 150 passing yards; task reward: +1 basic point.
Improve passing accuracy in an official game; task requirement: at least 55% completion rate; task reward: +1 basic point.
Avoid interceptions in an official game; task requirement: interceptions less than or equal to two; task reward: +1 basic point.
Achieve your first victory in an official game; task requirement: none; task reward: +5 basic points."
This was Luke's first professional game, and the task list was still extensive, with challenges remaining severe. Fortunately, there were still no failure penalties for the game tasks, but for Luke, victory was his only option, and he would give his all to strive
for it.
Just as Luke was about to close the system, he noticed a red dot on the inbox. There was an unread message?noveldrama
