Chapter 38
I couldn't tell if Selena was getting back at me, as the next round, she took me to do something even more thrilling-bungee jumping.
Standing on the edge of a 300-foot-high platform, looking down at the raging waters below, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me.
Fear gripped me. I was terrified that I might accidentally fall off the edge and never have a chance to communicate with this world again.
I stood beside the pillar, afraid to move, shivering as I watched her chatting and laughing with the staff nearby, blissfully unaware of my inner turmoil.
Once she finished, she turned to look at me and pointed at the other players who were preparing to jump. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, clearly eager to take the plunge.
"Hud, look! This bungee jump is even more thrilling than the roller coaster! I've done it before. It's a blast! You should try it too!"
Sure, bungee jumping was exhilarating, but it really put my heart to the test.
I swallowed hard, managing a reluctant nod without daring to look away. With a gasp, one person jumped off the platform, followed by a chorus of gasps and screams from the onlookers, and my mind flooded with memories of news articles I had seen before.
"A woman attempts a high-altitude bungee jump but ends up falling to her death due to staff negligence."
"Shocking! A bungee jump turns into a fatal accident at a rogue amusement park."
Selena glanced at her phone, then turned to me, shaking the tickets in her hand. "Hud, I've already bought the tickets. After they jump, it'll be our turn."
"Selena, do we really have to bungee jump?" I asked, unable to suppress the gulp that rose in my throat as I stared at the platform.
Riding the roller coaster had been a challenge for me, while bungee jumping felt like pushing my limits.
"Hud, if you can handle the roller coaster, why not try the bungee jump? I remember you're fit enough for this," she said, looking at me skeptically.
"I..." I glanced at her and ultimately chose to compromise, mechanically moving closer to her. I could feel the disdainful looks of several men around me, but I didn't care.
I closed my eyes, and suddenly everything turned dark. I opened my arms, feeling someone's hands moving over me. I frowned, realizing it didn't feel like the staff. I was puzzled when suddenly someone shoved me, and I fell to my knees.
What scared me more than the pain was an irrational fear. I quickly opened my eyes, and the platform seemed far away. It appeared that the person had pushed me away from it, and I couldn't help but think how different it would have been had they pushed me toward the edge.
Just that thought made my heart race, and a sharp sensation of panic washed
over me.
"Who pushed me?" I stood up, slightly angry, and questioned the surrounding crowd, but nobody replied. They all exchanged glances until Selena stepped forward, looking guilty.noveldrama
"I'm sorry, Hud! I wasn't standing firm and accidentally bumped into you. I didn't think you'd be so scared. I'm really sorry!"
Scared? I didn't quite understand her words. All I felt was something warm running down my face. When I raised my hand to touch it, I was shocked to find that I had started crying without realizing it.
