Chapter 66
Seeing that I remained silent, Selena let the matter drop. She only added in a disgruntled tone, "If I had known it would turn out like this, I would've made you stick to the contract with my company back then."
I had signed an agreement with her company, where they would cover four years of my tuition in exchange for at least five years of employment after graduation.
But once I started working there, I realized I was assigned to difficult tasks or impossible projects.
The workload was intense. It took tremendous mental and physical energy. By the end of the summer internship during my third year, I had lost 15 pounds.
When I returned to school, Selena saw my sharp jawline and skinny collarbones and nearly cried.
"This isn't a platform for you to showcase your skills. They are exploiting you. For work worth tens of thousands, they're paying you just five thousand a month. They're not helping you. They're using you as cheap labor."
That experience made her realize how cruel the company could be.
After I graduated, she used her influence to pressure the company into
terminating my contract. Since they had breached the agreement first, I didn't have to pay any penalties.
Looking at her now, I felt a pang of mixed emotions.
I was grateful for how she had helped me then. But I couldn't force my feelings for her, no matter how hard I tried.
I hadn't yet found the words to explain this when there was a knock at the door. It sounded different than usual.
I frowned, walked over, and opened the door, only to see Andy standing there. She wasn't dressed in her usual work attire or a skirt but wore a casual outfit instead. Her style was so different, so it took me a moment to recognize her.
Seeing my face, Andy smiled. "I'm here! Is my contract ready yet?"
I was momentarily taken aback. She brushed past me and entered the room. When she saw Selena, her face lit up, and she quickly went over to hug her.
"Didn't I email it to you? You came all the way to the hospital?" Selena rolled her eyes.
Andy hugged her even tighter, looking genuinely thrilled.noveldrama
"I just wanted an excuse to come and see you! Do you know how much I've missed you this past month?"
After a long hug, Andy released her and held her shoulders, looking at Selena with admiration.
"Selena, when are you coming back to work? I miss you so much, and Zion is driving me insane."
Selena glanced over at me and sighed. "I'm not sure. We'll see."
I knew exactly what Selena was thinking. She didn't want me to leave her side. I felt helpless as I thought about that.
Of course, Andy had no idea about this.
Hearing her response, Andy looked disappointed. She heaved a sigh.
"Selena, you should consider coming back soon. People at the company are starting to get a bit restless about your absence."
Selena frowned at this. "I'll handle it. You should go back early. Just get back there and help me keep things running smoothly."
"I have only just arrived and you are sending me off. How cruel of you!" Andy pouted, although she grabbed the contract and headed out.
What do you think?
