Loving Me Too Late

Chapter 5

"I'm sorry, sir, but that is confidential."

The nurse's response did not satisfy Henry.

"I'm the patient's family. I have the right to know what surgery she's having!" Henry

pressed. A faint layer of sweat appeared on his forehead.

"If you're the patient's family, then you should already know what surgery she's having. You wouldn't have asked me."

When he didn't get an answer, the panic in his heart grew stronger.

Henry started pounding on the tightly shut operating room doors.

"Open the door! Open the door!"

His eyes turned red.

Images of the moment he had just seen kept flashing through his mind.

But since the surgery had already begun, it was impossible to stop.

Two security guards removed Henry from the area forcibly.

As I lay on the bed, I heard Henry shouting vaguely.

A relaxed smile tugged at my lips before I drifted into unconsciousness.

When I opened my eyes again, Henry was right by my bedside.

It seemed as if he had been here for a long time.

His eyes were bloodshot.

The moment he saw me wake up, he hurriedly sat on the chair by the bed and reached out to touch my forehead.

I instinctively recoiled, forcing my weak body to create some distance between us.

Henry froze.

His hand hovered in midair. Disbelief flashed across his face, and his voice trembled.

"Are you... avoiding me? Why?"

I couldn't believe he had the audacity to ask that, but I said nothing.

A flicker of fear and panic crossed his face.

"Honey, why aren't you saying anything?"

"What is there to say?" I asked hoarsely.

Henry's lips pressed into a tight line.

He could feel something slipping away

from him, and he tried to change the subject desperately.

"Honey, what kind of surgery did you have?"

Even though Henry was trying to hide his emotions, I could still see the

fear and unease in his heart.

"Haven't you already guessed? Why ask me? Are you afraid to face reality?" I asked, though my voice was weak.

Henry suddenly slumped back into his chair.

The harsh screech of the chair scraping against the floor echoed through the ward.

He panted heavily, and his eyes were filled with disbelief and absurdity.

I had always loved him so much, so how could I bear to get rid of this child?

This was a child he had struggled so hard to conceive. Both he and I knew how difficult it had been.

He suddenly shot up from his seat.

His gaze locked onto me, and he

roared in hysteria, "Why, Stephanie?

health! You know how hard it was to have this child! Why did you do this?"

I parted my pale lips and laughed hard.

So, Henry finally knew what heartbreak felt like!

I laughed so hard that my expression gradually turned cold, and I couldn't catch my breath.noveldrama

"Why? Henry, you tell me. Why? Why should an unloved child come into this world? To suffer? To endure the scorn of the world?

To be resented by his own father? Or to be looked down upon by his own family?

"If no one wanted him to be born, then it's better that he

wasn't. That way, no one has to be troubled."

My words shattered the last bit of pride Henry had left as he collapsed back into the chair.

But he didn't sit properly, so he fell

straight to the ground. He clutched his face and shook his head.

"No, no... That's not true. I love this child. How could I not love him? He was our child. He was born from the precious bond between you and me. He

was one of a kind to me. Plow

could you bear to let him go?"

I forced myself to sit up against the headboard.

ет

With a voice as cold as ice, I shattered Henry's last illusion. "To a man like you, nothing is one of a

kind not even your idea of

love."
