Chapter 178
"Selena, that's enough!" Everett enunciated each syllable of her name as if issuing a final warning.
He believed he'd been more than fair lately, but she kept pushing, seemingly dead set on slipping out of his control. Did she really think she could just flutter away like a bird in a cage, oblivious to the world outside?
Selena could sense Everett's displeasure. His arrogance and macho attitude were typical of someone in his position. He wouldn't tolerate any defiance from someone he saw as insignificant, especially not from a woman like his wife, who once came running at his beck
and call.
What really got under his skin was the mention of Margot. It was just a name, but enough to stir his emotions.
Selena was done with being petty and jealous like before it was just a waste of time. She spoke again, this time more firmly, "If there's nothing else, I need my rest. Please leave." Everett's anger morphed into a dry laugh.
There was that saying about how not seeing someone for a while made you see them in a new light. His wife seemed to reinvent herself every single day.
Ignoring her request, he casually adjusted his tie and said as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "I didn't book another room, so I'll just crash here for the night."
Selena had anticipated this. She quickly booked herself a new room on her phone. "Since you're so fond of this room, Mr. Bennett, I'll take my leave. Enjoy."
She packed her things and, within minutes, grabbed her small suitcase, leaving without a backward glance.
Once in her new room, Selena took a shower and went straight to bed. The past days of chasing clues and evidence had left her with little rest. Today's drama had drained her, and she fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Meanwhile, Everett stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, smoking a few cigarettes to calm his nerves. He let her go without chasing after her because he feared he might lose control and do something he'd regret.
He wasn't ready to replace her yet, whether for his grandfather's wishes or his own reasons. Regardless, he needed to vent his frustration somehow.
With a slight squint of his dark eyes and a flick of cigarette ash, Everett took out his phone and dialed a number.
Soon, Derick's respectful voice came through, "Mr. Bennett."
"Look into what happened to Selena at the hospital today. I want every detail, no exceptions!"
Derick was taken aback; he had jumped to conclusions when he saw the photos, not realizing Selena had been attacked rather than caught up in some affair. He felt both relieved and worried.
"On it, sir." Derick worked quickly, unraveling the details in under half an hour before reporting back to Everett.
After he heard the whole story, Everett's handsome face clouded over with a dark mood.
Who dared to mess with his wife?
And to think, Selena had just brushed off such a dangerous ordeal when he asked her about it. The old Selena would have made a big deal out of the tiniest issues, turning them into grand
има
performances just for him.
Her silence on such a significant matter left Everett uneasy.
With a stern expression, he ordered, "Make sure Kent is taken care of properly." Derick nodded. "Understood, Mr. Bennett."
But he hesitated before ending the call, gathering the courage to add softly, "Mr. Bennett, while I was looking into this, I stumbled on something else... I was not sure if I should bring it up."
