Chapter 524
Everett was quick on the draw, raising his hand to block while simultaneously throwing a punch. Before long, the two men were tangled in a heated scuffle.
Jaime, armed to the teeth, hurried over from behind. He pulled Selena further back to safety, then jumped into the fray, trying to break up the fight. Watching Everett and Callum go at it like they were out for blood, Selena parted her lips, ready to urge them to stop, but in the end, she stayed silent. She was utterly spent, both body and soul; all she craved was to hug her son and catch some sleep. She was just so worn out... Ricky stepped in to steady her shaky frame. Looking down, he noticed her pale face and how her slender form seemed ready to be swept away by the wind. With a heart full of care, he held her cold hand and said, "Sis, little Mateo's waiting for you at home. Let's head back." Mateo had wanted to tag along to fetch his mom, but it took ages to coax him to sleep so Ricky could leave. Just a bit ago, the housekeeper called, saying Mateo had woken up, couldn't find anyone, and was crying, urging Ricky to hurry back. Selena gave a small nod, her voice a mere whisper, "Is he okay?"
Ricky shook his head, "He's been crying."
Suddenly finding himself an uncle, Ricky hadn't quite gotten used to the role, feeling a bit clumsy with Mateo. But blood ties are a wondrous thing; he quickly felt a bond forming, and his initial awkwardness began to fade. Mateo was crying because he missed his mom, scared she might vanish again.
Even though Selena had braced herself, hearing that still tugged at her heartstrings. She didn't glance back at the brawl between Everett and Callum; she just climbed into Ricky's car and left.
Meanwhile, Jaime, after a ton of effort, finally managed to pry the two apart. Three strikingly handsome men sat catching their breath, eyes red, and marked with bruises in all shades. Jaime thought to himself that having these guys as buddies was such a "blessing." If he could do it all again, he'd rather die than be their brother!
Fuming, he jibed, "Keep fighting, why don't you? The leading lady's left-who are you trying to impress? Grown men acting like hot-headed teens, aren't you embarrassed?"
One was a business mogul, the other a renowned doctor, yet here they were, getting into a brawl over a woman-unbelievable!noveldrama
Callum wiped the blood from his lip, "He tried to snatch someone away, shouldn't I fight?"
Everett shot back with a sneer, "Snatching someone's wife and weaving lies, shouldn't I fight?"
Callum's gaze turned dark. Jaime was the only one clueless about their hints, "What are you guys talking about..."
But no one bothered to answer him. Callum kept quiet, pushed himself off the ground, brushed off the dirt, and walked away without a word.
Everett watched him leave, a cold
smirk on his face. Suddenly, he
turned to Jaime, bluntly asking "How much do you know about Callum's time abroad these past few years?"
Jaime's heart skipped a beat. Was Everett looking for another target now that Callum had left?
"I don't know anything!" Jaime swore up and down, "Everett, my loyalty is with you; I've never sided with Callum. You gotta believe me!" He even batted his eyes for extra effect, trying to show he was being genuine.
Everett chuckled. He pulled out a cigarette pack, lit one, took a long drag, and blew out a lazy smoke. ring. Then, cool as a cucumber, he said, "Then go and break Callum's arm to show your sincerity
Jaime was just lighting his cigarette. His hand jerked at those words, and the flame singed his finger, making him wince in pain.
