Chapter 893
Knowing full well that he was completely wrapped up in her now. Wasn't this just tearing him apart? Selena fell into silence. After what felt like ages, she finally spoke, almost in a trance, "Am I really the only one for you?"
Everett paused, considering his words. "I don't know, but you're the only one who makes me feel alive. You make my heart feel like it's just like anyone else's— capable of pain, sorrow, happiness, and joy."
There was a time when she longed for his unwavering choice. But he had let her down, time after time. At every decision point, he always chose the path that led away from her. Now, when she had finally given up and stopped hoping, he was resolute.
Selena suddenly felt like fate was having a laugh at their expense. How do you reclaim lost emotions? She stayed silent, but Everett seemed to have opened up a floodgate of words.
"Doesn't tonight remind you of that night a year ago? When I came back from abroad and found you in Newport?"
"My biggest regret now is saying no to you that night. If I hadn't, would we already have had our happy ever after?"
His words brought back memories for Selena. A year ago, she had yearned for his return, for them to be a family again. If Everett hadn't been so foolish back then, maybe they would have already remarried and reunited by now. But life doesn't do 'what ifs.' Time only moves forward; what's missed is missed.
Selena sighed softly, "Maybe..."
Everett's eyes lit up at this. He turned her around in his arms, his dark eyes deeply focused on hers. "Selena, it's not too late now. I can change the things you don't like, gradually, until you're happy with me. Is that okay?"
Selena remained silent. It was unclear whether she didn't want to respond or just didn't know how. But Everett wasn't about to give up, gently kissing her forehead and cheeks, determined to win her over.
Selena could stand up to Everett's forceful nature, but his tenderness made her heart waver. She took deep breath, forcing herself to stay composed, and warned him sternly, "Don't push your luck. If you keep up, I'll kick you out!"noveldrama

He had to relent. But only for a heartbeat before he was at it again. "So, when can I push my luck?"
Selena: "
What a frustrating man. Selena decided to ignore him, pushing him away and wrapping herself in the blanket, turning her back to him. "I'm going to sleep now, don't bother me."
Everett watched her graceful form, feeling the heat within him only grow. It was maddening. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to leave and head back to the master bedroom. All he could do was pull back the covers, get up, and head to the bathroom. Soon, the sound of running water filled the room.
...
The next morning, when Selena woke up, she glanced behind her to find Everett already gone. It had rained all night, and the air was especially fresh, with the breeze from the window carrying the scent of grass.
On the sofa, she found clothes laid out for her-new and perfectly sized. Everett must have arranged it. After freshening up, Selena slipped into the dress and stepped out onto the terrace.
The kids were already up, playing in
the garden below, with Everett joining them for some exercise. She watched them for a while, a smile naturally spreading across her face. After a few seconds, she turned and left the room, heading straight to the study.
She took down a painting from the wall, opened the safe, and retrieved the official
and personal seals, placing them into her bag.
