Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 954

Alexa dragged herself back to her apartment, feeling utterly defeated.

She lived in an old neighborhood. She'd gone abroad once, with Selena's financial help, and as long as she wasn't reckless with spending, she'd hoped to provide a stable life for her child.

But life had other plans. Her child was born frail, saddled with congenital diabetes —a condition that required constant medication and could never be fully cured.

Every doctor's visit drained her finances.

Even though she jumped back into the job hunt right after her maternity leave, living overseas came with its own set of hurdles. The language barrier, among other challenges, made it impossible to juggle work and childcare. Medical bills were sky-high, and her savings trickled away until she just couldn't keep up anymore.

Thinking of her child's needs, she had no choice but to come back home, even if it meant giving up the safety net of life abroad.

Northtown was where she grew up, so she returned with her child. She figured that even if Blaine came back too, he'd probably stay in Newport. The world was big; their paths might never cross.

At first, she was on edge about being back. But after a few months, she realized her current life wouldn't overlap with Blaine's high-flying world, and she started to relax.

After marrying Blaine, she'd been like a bird in a gilded cage. He didn't let her do much or go out, leaving her out of touch with the world for ages. Finding a job was tough.

Luckily, she reconnected with a former colleague from her caregiving days. Once the colleague learned that Alexa was a divorced mom in desperate need of work, she kindly landed her a job as a caregiver at a local hospital.

This wasn't just any hospital; it was a swanky private clinic catering to the wealthy. They paid well for caregivers, as long as the patients were pampered and comfortable during recovery.

Being a caregiver was second nature to Alexa, so she quickly got back into the groove and eased her immediate financial worries.noveldrama

For her child's care, she relied on Mrs. Bennett, the retired neighbor next door, who watched the little one while Alexa worked. She paid her a monthly fee, though Mrs. Bennett didn't really mind about the money. She had a good pension and was happy to help.

Alexa stumbled into her home, lost in thought. Mrs. Bennett was rocking the baby, and as Alexa walked in, she smiled and said, "Look who's back! Isn't that great, little one?"

The baby giggled, waving tiny fists in excitement, like a little cheerleader welcoming her home.

Seeing her child warmed Alexa's heart. She reached out and took the baby from Mrs. Bennett, holding them close.

The sweet smell of baby lotion filled her senses, and she felt a glimmer of life return.

She kept telling herself it was just a one-off tonight.

Besides, Blaine didn't see her, right?

Besides, Blaine di

With his hectic schedule, he wouldn't be hanging around Northtown for

long. They'd just had a brief

encounter, and in the vast sea of people, they wouldn't cross paths again.

With that, her heart began to calm.

On the flip side, Blaine was tossing and turning all night.

His mind kept replaying that fleeting moment from the evening. He was certain

he'd seen Alexa, but logic insisted it was just his imagination.

She had done everything to flee from him. Since she left, why on earth would she come back?

Maybe he was still too hung up, unable to let go.

Perhaps it was time to take Selena's

advice and find someone new to settle down with. That might be the only way to shake off this stubborn obsession.

Blaine stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, rubbing his tired temples.
