Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 956

Selena's grip on her phone was shaky, her hands trembling uncontrollably. Someone who looked just like her? That meant someone was out to get her, and they came prepared. Faces of several people flashed through her mind, but she couldn't figure out who it was. All she knew was that these were the fallout from Everett's romantic escapades.

All she wanted was a peaceful life, so why did trouble keep finding her? But she knew now wasn't the time to fall apart-her kid was still waiting for her. Selena took a deep breath, trying to keep her emotions in check. "Ms. Thompson, that wasn't me. I think Mateo was taken by someone dangerous. I need the school's surveillance footage as soon as possible."

Ms. Thompson, understanding the seriousness of the situation, quickly agreed. After hanging up, Selena forced herself to stay calm and scanned the area around the school. It was a bustling neighborhood, with cameras everywhere. No matter how slick the culprit was, they couldn't have disabled all those cameras. Even so, she didn't have the skills to access those recordings...

Swallowing hard, Selena picked up her phone again to call Everett.

Meanwhile, across town, Blaine was in hot water too. He and Matilda had just finished dinner and were about to get into their car when out of nowhere, a group wielding baseball bats charged at Blaine. Matilda screamed in terror, and Blaine quickly pushed her aside, taking on the attackers himself.noveldrama

Luckily, the attackers had a clear target and ignored Matilda, zeroing in on Blaine. Blaine was quick on his feet, managing to take down several, but eventually, he was outnumbered. One attacker saw an opening and delivered a hard blow to his calf. Blaine grunted in pain but managed to kick the attacker away with his other leg.

Just as the others closed in, Holt arrived with the security team, swiftly dealing with the attackers. Matilda snapped out of her shock and rushed to Blaine's side, seeing him sweating in pain. Her voice trembled with worry, "Blaine, are you alright?"

Holt stepped forward, "Sir, I'll get you to the hospital."

Matilda quickly chimed in, "Let's head to St. Mary's Hospital. My family owns it, and you'll get top-notch care."

Blaine exhaled lightly, "Alright."

Two bodyguards helped Blaine into the car and drove him to the hospital. In the examination room the doctor frowned as he checked Blaine's injuries. "They didn't hold back. Looks like a minor fracture. We'll need an X-ray."

Matilda felt guilty. "Blaine, I'm so sorry. This is all because of me."

Blaine smiled through the pain, "I knew what I was signing up for when I took your

case, Mr. Jaime. Don't blame yourself."

Holt nodded, "Mr. Jaime, I'll take him for the X-ray now."

Matilda nodded, "Go ahead."

After the X-ray, the doctor said it was a minor fracture-unfortunate but not the worst outcome. Blaine would need a cast and plenty of rest. Seeing this, Matilda arranged for Blaine to get the best VIP room in the hospital.

Standing by his bedside, Matilda was furious. "Carter just wants to keep you from

going to court. When I get back, I'll make sure someone breaks his leg too."

Blaine chuckled, "Mr. Jaime, let's not be hasty. Let's end it here."

Matilda was puzzled, "Just let him off like that?"

Blaine explained, "Actually, this works to our advantage. If we choose to let it go, Carter will think I'm too scared to continue the case against him. You should pretend to look for a new lawyer, so Carter lets his guard down. Then I can gather more evidence against him, not only stripping him of his inheritance rights but also making sure he doesn't get a penny from your father."
