Chapter 2672
Lyndon pursed his lips, the realization hitting him.
No wonder she looked so familiar; it was Rita! Lyndon watched the two heavyset men lumber toward the first floor, his dark eyes narrowing with instinctive unease.
He stubbed out his cigarette and followed them gingerly.
On the first floor, Rita finished her last song, the final notes lingering in the air like a fading whisper as she stepped backstage.
Just as she was about to slip away with her things, two imposing figures blocked her path, their shadows stretching menacingly.
Rita, living high on our bosss money, arent you? one of them taunted, a smug grin spreading across his face.
Her heart raced as recognition jolted her.
These were the loan sharks! Come on, I paid back every cent I borrowed ages ago, she retorted, her voice steady despite the panic rising within. The man closed in, his sneer deepening.
Seriously, Rita? You think paying back just the principal clears you? Do you take us for idiots? Rita clenched her jaw, biting back her frustration.
No! I repaid you with interest that far exceeds what any bank would charge! Im warning you-leave me alone.
Your usury is illegal, and I wont hesitate to report you.
The two men Locked eyes, an unspoken agreement passing between them as they began to roll up their sleeves.
Oh, so youre going to rat us out? one sneered, a cruel grin spreading across his face as he stepped closer.
Maybe we should give you a lesson to humble your arrogance.
The other let out a low, threatening laugh.
Yeah, looks like you could use a real lesson. Before Rita could react, one of them lunged forward.noveldrama
His hand clamped down on her wrist with a fierce grip.
His other hand shot up, ready to strike.
Ritas scream echoed through the alley, raw with fear.
She slammed her eyes shut, every muscle tensing as she braced for impact.
But instead of a blow, she heard a sharp yelp of pain.
Suddenly, the grip on her wrist vanished. Rita opened her eyes, breath caught in her throat.
There stood Lyndon.
Fury flashed in his eyes, his presence both shocking and reassuring.
The man who had grabbed her wrist staggered back, clutching his wrist, disbelief and pain written on his face.
Lyndon had stepped in, swift and silent, halting the attack just in time.
Ritas heart raced, gratitude and surprise flooding her expression.
Lyndon! she gasped, her voice trembling with disbelief.
What are you doing here?
What do you think?
