Chapter 48: What's a Mate?

Chapter 48: What's a Mate?

"I'm fine." I tried to tell Liam as he opened the door and a gush of fresh air hit my lungs. The night sky

was beautiful, calm. Liam let go of my hand and my heart ached from the loss of contact. My hand in

his just felt so real, like they were made to be that way. Bound.

We walked around to a unfamiliar part of the grounds of the house.

"You have a freaking pool!" I screamed when I saw the large body of water. I ran over to the huge pool.

The water looked so clean and smooth like a slice of butter. An entire full moon was reflected on the

water's surface.

"You looked like you were having a mini heart attack back there." Liam honestly calls me out.

I shake my head. "I'm such a freak. I can't even have dinner with my own family. What is wrong with

me?" I ask Liam, almost desperately. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

"There's nothing wrong with you Emerald. Things have been difficult for you. Things have changed."

Liam tells me. "Don't be so hard on yourself. And you are not a freak."

"Wish I could tell myself that." I replied with a sigh. I genuinely felt different. "What happened to me,

Liam?" I asked.

"What?"

"What happened to me when the vampire bit me? Did it have any permanent effect on me? I mean, I

was out for one whole freaking week!" I almost screamed.

"The bite of a vampire doesn't really have any permanent effects. We managed to get the venom out of

your blood, thanks to Annabelle and you got the correct treatment. You might feel a bit different after,

since this seems to be the first time you've been bitten, but you're going to be okay." Liam explained in

one breath.

"Oh." I felt relieved to know that I wasn't going to die. Not everyone wishes to be bitten by a vampire.

"Did you catch them?" I asked.

"We haven't caught Katrina yet, but Rafael is in custody." Liam clenched his jaw. "Don't worry because I

fully intend on catching her, and make her pay for the havoc she has caused in our pack." Liam

continued, his jaw set a thin line.

I sat down on the edge of the pool and watched as the clouds glided around in the sky, some scraping

the edge of the moon.

"I actually have something to tell you." Liam says, and I look at him in surprise. He looks deep in

thought. "Quite a number of things as a matter of fact."

"Are you proposing to me already?" I laughed and my stomach felt as if it had just digested an entire

field of butterflies. Liam looked at me with an unreadable expression that made me just want jump off

the Golden Bridge.

"Not yet." Liam smirked. Then he turned serious. "I want to tell you about me. I want you to know more

about me. As you know, I'm a... werewolf. Werewolves tend to have a lot of traditions and I want to tell

you about them. I-"

"Wait, let me get my sleeping bag and my ear muffs. I didn't expect you to be a history teacher." I

snorted and Liam laughed.

"People tend to leave out a lot of details when their talking about us in their spooky stories. There are

alot of important information about us werewolf, I want you to know. Like for instance, we have mates."

The word mate made my heart thump wildly. "What's a mate?" I asked, genuinely interested and

curious.
