Chapter 289
Chapter 289
Mason’s gaze returned in just a moment. Candice originally wanted to remind Yana, but after some
consideration, she chose to stay silent.
Just then, Yana’s face lit up as she looked at a young man approaching–more fittingly described
as a boy.
The boy was wearing a basketball jersey casually covered by a gray sweatshirt. His slightly longer than
crew–cut hair and the conspicuous black ear stud on his right ear made him stand out. Candice
subconsciously frowned, but Yana had already greeted him, “Little Barox over here.”
The boy, called Barox, paused in his steps, a somewhat displeased expression on his face. “I told
you not to call me that.”
After saying this, he noticed Candice beside Yana. His sharp, narrow eyes paused for a moment
before quickly shifting away. He asked Yana in an indifferent tone, “You brought a friend, so why
did you call me?”
Yana chuckled and then immediately put on a serious face. “Stop the nonsense. I called you so
just come. Little Barox, this is my friend. Barox Gort is a junior at Dorrington University.”
Candice nodded upon hearing this. “Is he your boyfriend?”
Yana was about to speak when suddenly she saw someone approaching them. Her expression
changed immediately. She affectionately hugged Barox’s arm and said coquettishly, “Yes, the
feeling of dating someone younger is much more comfortable than dating an old man.”
“Yana.” A gentle and clear voice sounded, and Candice looked over to see the girl who had been
standing beside Mason.
There was a resemblance between them, so this was probably the birthday girl Mason’s sister. Jenice
Cooper.
Yana hugged Barox, and her smiling expression gradually faded. She whispered, “Jenice, happy
birthday.”
Jenice hesitated and looked a bit conflicted. She glanced at Yana and then at Barox. “Yana, my
brother…” Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Yana, with a half–smile, interrupted her. “Jenice, don’t mention your brother in front of my current
boyfriend. I’m afraid my little puppy will get jealous.”
Jenice hesitated again. Because of Yana, Mason had been scolded by his family since he had

returned to the country. This birthday party was also held by her mother to repair the relationship
between Yana and Mason.
After all, the Cooper family no longer had a more satisfactory daughter–in–law than Yana or such an
excellent in–law as the Landor family.
Yana hugged Barox’s arm intimately and said a few festive words to Jenice before leading the
group inside.
Mason still stood at the door. When Yana passed by him, her eyes flickered, and she subconsciously
bit her lip. However, she didn’t stop and went straight into the venue.
Candice followed them, but Mason suddenly stopped her, “Ms. Renault.”
She halted, and her eyebrows slightly furrowed as she looked at him.
Dressed neatly with a calm expression, Mason handed her a business card, “I heard that you’ve been
in charge of the business at Burning Star Studio lately. I was thinking of making time to visit Burning
Star Studio. Since you’re here, can we talk later?”
Polite and courteous, his tone was also gentle.
Candice took his business card but responded, “I’m sorry, I’m just here today to accompany Yana
to the banquet.”
There was a history between Yana and Mason, and she didn’t want to have too much interaction with
him. Moreover, considering Hanley’s personality, he probably wouldn’t cooperate with Mason.
either.
Mason wasn’t embarrassed and just nodded. “My oversight.”
Candice didn’t say anything more and went inside to find Yana and the others. However, the venue was
already crowded, and people were gathered in groups. She couldn’t spot Yana immediately. Since she
didn’t know many people here, she decided to find a corner and wait.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she sat down, she saw someone familiar approaching with a wine
glass.
Marc was wearing glasses, which made him look refined. Candice didn’t recognize him at first glance.
He then spoke with that shy look again, “Candice, long time no see.”
She looked up. “I heard you recently got promoted to the position of general manager. Impressive.
“Although Candice didn’t deliberately pay attention, she would still come across some news
about people in her social circle.
He was momentarily stunned and said, “You still pay attention to my affairs?” This response left

her speechless. She remained silent with pursed lips and prepared to speak.
However, before she could say anything, she heard a careless voice, “Of course, she has to care
about you. It’s just that I see she cares about more than just you.”
Just by the tone, Candice knew it was Sieg. She looked coldly over, but one glance at the young
man beside Sieg made her furrow her brows.
This person’s facial features were quite similar to Hanley’s. Candice remembered that Alex had
mentioned Hanley had a younger brother. She paused for a few seconds, hearing Sieg’s sarcastic
remark, “See that? The one who was concerned about you a moment ago can now gaze at other
men in the blink of an eye.”
Marc felt embarrassed, “I… am not…” Candice’s face turned colder. She looked at Sieg and said.
Sieg, if you don’t speak, no one will mistake you for mute.”
Sieg looked at her with more mockery on his face. The next moment, he turned to the young man
beside him, “Caspian, see that? Your brother has a woman by his side now.”
Caspian’s facial features indeed bore some resemblance to Hanley, but he lacked the refinement that
Hanley possessed. Instead, due to his long eyes, he looked somewhat effeminate. He heard Sieg’s
words and cast a casual glance at Candice before pausing, “His taste is not bad.”
Sieg laughed, “Good taste, just poor judgment.” They openly discussed Candice as if she were an
object, and her face grew colder.
However, when she looked at Caspian, she recalled what Alex had mentioned about Hanley’s family
grooming Caspian as the heir. If Caspian had a good relationship with the Fowler family, that might not
be good news for Hanley.
“Ms. Renault,” After Sieg and Caspian finished speaking. Caspian redirected his gaze to Candice. His
tone carried a hint of playfulness, and his eyes revealed a calculating sentiment. “I’ve heard from Sieg
that you used to work quite well at Aether Corporation. Now you’re working in a small studio with
Hanley. Isn’t that a waste? Why not come to my side? I’ll offer you double the salary.”
He smiled slightly, maintaining a certain pose. “I mean twice the salary you were earning at Aether
Corporation.” Candice’s expression remained unchanged as she looked at Caspian, her gaze slightly
cold.
“I currently have no plans to switch jobs.”
“Why follow Hanley?” Caspian continued nonchalantly, but there was an underlying arrogance in his
words. “He doesn’t even have the qualification to return to the Baldwin family now, not to mention
dealing with a crazy mother. What can he offer you?”
“Ms. Renault, I heard you’re somewhat short of money,” he added. “Why don’t you come to work with
me? Why follow someone like him?
