My Mute Wife

Chapter 61 How Did You Get Hurt?

For several days in a row, Lexie didn’t see Alan.

Instead, Flora came every day, bringing food with him.

[Thank for you delivering food to me every day.]

Lexie was embarrassed.

Flora unscrewed the lunch boxes and placed them one by one on the dining table, “I was entrusted by someone, and besides, I need your help.”

Lexie’s eyebrows frowned slightly.

[I really don’t know much about Paul Poole, the one who is closer to him, besides my father, is Edith, maybe you should go and ask Edith].

“No, it’s easy to spook her if I ask her instead.”

“By the way, don’t mention this to your family, for your own good.”

Lexie nodded to show that she understood, but she was still puzzled.

[You suspect Paul Poole of killing someone. Who did he kill?]

“A sales agent for a pharmaceutical company.”

[Why?]

“Initially, it’s a business rivalry and Paul Poole is just a henchman being directed.”

Lexie’s heart stuttered.

Did that mean that the Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group was involved?

[Telling me this, aren’t you afraid of spooking my father?]

“No,” Flora looked at her, his gaze sober and calm, “Paul Poole is a knife of Peter, aren’t you also suspecting that your mother’s death is related to Peter? And aren’t you already planning to leave J City?”

“By the way, Myles asked me to bring words that Grandma has been arranged, and you can leave J City anytime as soon as you’re ready.”

Hearing these words, Lexie’s face suddenly became tense, and her hand clutching the chopsticks trembled slightly.

She had to leave, because the fake prescription definitely could not fool Alan.

It was late in the evening and the roar of planes crossed the sky over J City Airport.

The car picked up the man from the terminal and drove down the airport highway.

“Mr. Alan, it’s still necessary for you to deal with it personally. The contract for Binjiang New Town is finally signed, the engineering team can go ahead with confidence and boldness.”

Jack held the contract in his hand and couldn’t hold back the joy in his voice.

Alan said, “We still have to be careful.”

“You mean your uncle …”

“He’s suffered a loss this time, and I’m afraid that the marriage between Tina and the Walsh family will be ahead of the agenda.”

“Don’t worry, I have had the things ready.”

Alan nodded.

“Mr. Alan, you’re tired after these busy days, let me send you home later.”

“No, go to the hospital.”

Hearing that, Jack’s heart stuttered, somehow inexplicably was worried about Lexie.

It was already dark.

Kevin knocked on the door and entered the ward with Lexie’s examination report.

When he came in, Lexie was leaning on the bed looking out of the window at the moonlight.

“Wanna go for a walk?”

Kevin’s voice pulled Lexie’s thoughts back.

She froze for a moment and looked back.

Kevin tucked his hands in the pockets of his white coat and showed a warm smile towards her, “It should be quite boring to stay in the ward all the time, right? The rosebuds are blooming outside, I’ll take you out for a look.”

Lexie hesitated for a moment and nodded her head.

She hadn’t told Kevin about leaving J City, so she had to thank him for taking care of her these days anyway.

The hospital walls were crawling with vines of rosebuds in all colors.

Kevin helped Lexie towards the pavilion.

“The indicators are normal, but the injury on your foot is not yet healed and you can’t walk around easily, so I recommend you to stay in the hospital for two days for observation before being discharged, which is safer.”

[It’s better to get out of the hospital as soon as possible.]

“Why so rush? Got something to do?”

[Nothing, it’s just boring to be in the hospital]

Kevin nodded in understanding.

[By the way, thank you for taking care of me all this time, and for helping to hide the truth from Grandma.]

“You’re welcome, but do you still plan to keep the marriage between you and my cousin a secret from Grandma?”

Lexie pondered, [It shouldn’t be necessary in the future.]

Kevin, however, froze, “Are you planning to tell Grandma?”

Lexie was about to reply and her gaze suddenly contracted.

Lexie’s hand trembled for a moment and pulled her hand out of Kevin’s hand.

“What’s wrong?” Kevin wondered, following Lexie’s gaze but seeing Alan.

“Alan? When did you get here?”

Alan had been there for a while, and when he didn’t see Lexie in the ward, he just happened to see a scene of Kevin helping Lexie take a walk downstairs through the window.

“I just arrived,” As his cold words fell, and his sunken gaze was fixed on Lexie, “So badly injured? Why don’t I have someone assign you a wheelchair so that you can go out easily?”

Lexie’s face went white and she bit her lips tightly.

Kevin uttered, “Alan, Lexie’s foot is injured.”NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

It was hot, and despite Kevin’s repeated instructions to be careful, her burns became infected and had to be wrapped up in gauze, and right now, with gauze wrapped around her feet and wearing a wide slipper that didn’t fit, she was having trouble walking.

Alan’s brow furrowed slightly as his gaze fell to her foot, “How did you get hurt?”

[It is okay, it’s almost healed.]

Lexie wasn’t willing to explain much.

“She still needs more rest for she had old and new injury. Alan , if you are too busy with your work, you don’t have to come to the hospital too often, I am here to take care of Lexie.”

Because of the medicine, Kevin had been wary of Alan, and directly helped Lexie to go back to the ward.

Alan’s gaze sank, “Wait.”

Lexie’s shoulders trembled as her arm was pulled, and she looked up at Alan in panic.

Kevin’s face changed, ”Alan! What do you want? Don’t go too far.”

“Dr. Stewart, you are overly dedicated,” Alan gave him a sideways glance and picked Lexie up, saying, “But you seem to forget that she is my legal wife.”

Lexie’s mind went blank, looking up to see the stubble on Alan’s chin, the profile of his face illuminated by the moonlight, cold and resolute.

The summer evening breeze swayed the roses in the yard, shaking off the petals.

Large dark clouds in the distant sky crept in, as if a major storm was coming.

There were surprised looks all the way down the corridor, and Lexie struggled to get down.

“You’d better not move,” a deep, cold voice rang in her ears, “but if you really want to be in a wheelchair, I don’t mind it.”

Lexie shivered, one hand clutching the corner of her hospital gown tightly.

The faint smell of tobacco came from the man, which caused fear into her heart.

Alan put her back on the hospital bed and swept a glance, “How did your foot get hurt?”

Lexie clutched the sheet, her face pale.

[Accidentally scalded.]

“By yourself?”

Seeing that she didn’t say anything, Alan’s brows knitted slightly and he poured a glass of water, but seeing Lexie’s expression visibly wince, his frown deepened and he handed over the glass of water, “Warm water.”

Lexie revealed a stunned look of disbelief.
