Chapter 34
Chapter 34 Has Your Father Died?
Arriving at the hospital entrance, Allen Parker gallantly stepped out of the car to help Emily open the door.
Emily thanked him again.
"You don't have to be so polite. It only makes things feel more unfamiliar," he replied.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
After bidding him farewell and watching the red taillights disappear from view, Emily finally relaxed her tense nerves.
While in the car just now, she carefully examined his jawline through the rearview mirror.
They even had similar jawlines.
But she dared not jump to conclusions.
There was no time to cook today, so Emily bought some fruits downstairs and went upstairs to see her father.
Just as she reached the door of the ward, she heard Sophia's voice from inside.
"...Me and Nathan? Yes, you guessed it right. I'm with Nathan now, and I'm also carrying his child."
"...I'm the villain? If my parents hadn't been supporting you, you would have starved to death long ago! I just wanted her husband, that's all!" Emily couldn't bear to listen anymore. She forcefully pushed open the door to the ward.
She saw Sophia standing arrogantly, while her father had somehow fallen off the bed at some point, his clothes soaked through with water.
She shot Sophia a fierce glare, then quickly squatted down to help her father back onto the bed.
Emily noticed that her father's clothes were thoroughly soaked, and the water was still warm.
Emily's blood boiled with anger. "Sophia, what have you done to my dad? Did you scald him with hot water? He's your family!"
Sophia played with her nails as if nothing had happened. "What can I do to him? He tried to hit me and ended up knocking over the hot water cup, getting himself all wet. What's it to me?"
Emily clenched her fists, staring at her fiercely. "Sophia, just you wait. I'll settle the score with you later!"
Emily immediately called for a doctor.
As she expected, her father had indeed been scalded, and the burns covered almost his entire body, which was very serious.
After the doctor examined William, he was furious. "What's wrong with you people? You let the patient suffer from burns for so long without calling a doctor? Are you all heartless? This is an attempt to murder him!" Emily's mind was in chaos, and she barely registered what the doctor was saying.
As long as she could save her father, she didn't care how much scolding she received.
"Who's responsible for taking care of the patient?"
Sophia stood aside, pointing at Emily from afar. "It's her."
"You scoundrel!" William was so angry that his eyes widened, his chest covered in large patches of red.
Sophia chuckled, "I'm just learning from your daughter. She's even more shameless. She can't have children but still wants to take my husband."
"You... you..."
Emily quickly rushed forward, trying to calm him down. "Dad, don't get worked up. You need to watch your heart..."
"Emily, don't stop me. I'm going to kill her today!"
William's clothes were soaked in blood, and his chest was covered in red.
Emily was frantic. "Dad, lie down quickly. Your wound has burst!! Doctor, doctor, please hurry and check my dad's wound. He's bleeding!"
Sophia, still not satisfied with the chaos, continued to provoke him, "When Nathan and I get married, I might consider letting Emily come to my house to clean the toilets. After all, she's used to doing these chores, isn't she?" William trembled violently all over, his eyes bulging with rage, unable to catch his breath, and suddenly collapsed back onto the bed, fainting.
Emily burst into tears, "Dad... Doctor, please, save him, please!"
The doctor glanced at the numbers on the various instruments around and said sternly, "The patient's blood pressure has dropped sharply, and his heart rate is significantly declining. Immediately transfer him to the intensive care unit for treatment!" Emily helped the nurse push her father into the intensive care unit.
Feeling helpless, she ran her hands through her hair and leaned against the wall by the ICU door, breathing heavily, her lips pale from being bitten by her teeth.
Less than half a month had passed, and her father had been rushed to the ICU twice. Emily regretted deeply; if only she hadn't gone to the banquet with Jackson today. Then she could have come earlier and prevented Sophia from being so brazen! She clenched her fists tightly. Damn Sophia!
When she returned to the ward, Sophia was about to leave, holding her LV bag. Seeing Emily back, she chuckled lightly, "So, did your father die?"
Bang!
A loud noise.
Emily slammed the door forcefully, then turned around and locked the ward door from the inside, leaving only the two of them in the room. "Emily, what are you doing?"
"What am I doing?" Emily felt completely irrational now, her eyes burning with anger. She rolled up her sleeves and sneered, "An eye for an eye."
With that, she grabbed a nearby chair and hurled it at Sophia.
"Ah!!!" Sophia screamed and dodged, "Emily, are you insane?!"
"I am insane. Do you still want to run? The door is locked from inside. The only way out is to jump from here!"
Emily, in a state of extreme fury, surprisingly remained calm. This was the seventeenth floor. Sophia didn't have the courage to jump.
Sophia was terrified by Emily's fierce expression. In all these years, she had never seen Emily so terrifying. Even when she stole Nathan away, Emily had never become so vicious.
"Emily, I warn you, the child in my belly is the only heir of the Reed family. If me and my child get hurt, Nathan won't spare you!"
"Then let him come!" Emily interrupted her directly, "Sophia, if my dad doesn't wake up, I will make sure you pay with your life! Can Nathan protect you forever? I won't let you get away with it." With a newfound strength, Emily lifted another chair and hurled it forcefully towards the corner where Sophia was hiding.
