Return of the Bad Boy Alpha Chapter 46
Naomi
My dreams were filled with terror, each one ending with my daughter's death. "NOVA!" I screamed myself awake. My eyes focus, and I am still in the hospital room. The last thing I remember is holding Axel while nursing him. Then I realize my son is not in my arms. "Axel!" I scream and look around frantically.
"He's right here," Moira speaks up. She has my newborn son snug in her arms. "You fell asleep while nursing him, and then he began slipping out of your arms, so I have been holding him since." The queen rises from her chair and gently lays Axel in my arms. I say nothing as I cradle him. My arms were tight around his little form. "I just keep reliving the nightmare of waking up to find my daughter missing."
"I'm so sorry, honey. I swear that Kerry and Magnus will get her back," Moira sits beside me.
"I still can't believe that Rocky took your daughter. I never really cared for him or his mate, but he never crossed me as someone who would kidnap a newborn pup."
"He and Mikayla have never welcomed Magnus and me. Mikayla acts superior to everyone like she is the queen," I huff.
"Mikayla was an omega who happened to be mated to the royal beta," Moira snorts.
"She reminds me of my sister. I mean, I love Elena, but Elena always acted like she was better than others simply because our father was the head delta and top warrior," I explain.
Moments later, there is a light knock on the door, and Phoebe walks in with her daughter in her arms and our mothers behind her. My mother rushes over to me and throws her arms around me, "Oh, Naomi, I can't believe someone took your baby girl." "Darryl and Allen went with Magnus and the others to get her back," Janice walks up to the bed, "I guess Rocky passed Nova off to that Cedric guy."
Moira lets out a long sigh, "Dammit, Cedric," she whispers.
"Why would your brother take my daughter?" I ask the queen.
"I wish I knew, Naomi."
"Darryl did mention that they were on their way to the Council Headquarters," Janice adds. She eyes Axel in my arms. "May I hold my grandson?"
A low growl escapes me, but I let Janice hold Axel. 'It's alright, Ruby. Janice won't hurt him. I say to my agitated wolf.
'Sorry, I don't trust anyone right now,' She mumbles.
'I know, but Janice would never harm Axel,' I assure her.
I watch Janice smile at coo at my son. Suddenly the book appears in the air in front of me, and I yelp. The book drops onto the bed and opens up. 'You must get your newborn. Her life is in mortal danger! A cold voice whispers in my head. "They are going to kill Nova," I say out loud.
"What? Cedric wouldn't do that," Moira gasps.
'You must hurry, The voice insists.
I sit up, "I have to get to the council now."
"You have to stay here, Naomi. You just gave birth," My mother argues.
"I know, Mom. But I also need to rescue my daughter," I stand up and wince from some of the lingering pain of childbirth. I walk over to the dresser, take off the hospital gown, and throw on a pair of jean shorts and a t-shirt.
"You seriously aren't going, are you?" My mom looks at the other women.
"I'm going too," Phoebe insists. "Mom, can you watch Edie?"
Janice snorts, "Of course."
"Wait, how are you going to get there?" My mom asks, and a portal appears in the doorway of the room.
'Hurry, The voice hisses in my head. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
"I'm coming too," Moira declares.
Phoebe passes Edie to her mother and links arms with me. We rush through the portal and come out in a dark hallway filled with tapestries and a long red carpet. "Where are we?" Phoebe shudders.
"The Council Headquarters," Moira replies.
"Where do we go?" I ask.
Moira points down the hall, "I would assume Cedric would take her to the ritual room to-" She trails off and shakes her head.
I take off running in that direction. I let Ruby come forward and sniff the air trying to pick up my pup's scent. "Take us to Nova, Ruby," I tell my wolf. Phoebe and Moira are on my heels as I burst through a set of large oak doors. I hear a baby crying, and my heart leaps. I see my baby girl lying naked on an altar and Cedric hovering over her with a silver knife. Instinct kicks in as Ruby takes control and shifts. She runs straight for the man about to kill her pup, tackles him to the ground, and sinks her teeth into his arm. "Stop! I have to kill the abomination!" Cedric pleads.
That only further angers Ruby; she snarls and latches onto his throat, preparing to clamp down and end his life.
"Wait, Naomi, stop!" Moira runs up and pleads with us.
Ruby snarls and clamps down harder.
"Look, let my dumbass brother go, and I swear he will be punished," Moira says.
Ruby snarls again but releases the wizard. Nova coos, and we turn to see her in Phoebe's arms. Ruby whimpers and trots over to them. I shift back into human form just as the men burst into the room. I take Nova into my arms and nuzzle her. "Naomi!" Magnus trots over to us. He pulls off his shirt and drapes it over me. "How did you guys get here so fast?"
"The book," I respond as I hold my daughter tight. I look back, and Cedric is sitting up and holding his bleeding neck.
"That child will be the destruction of us all. I saw her destroying the world in a vision. I know I had to stop her," Cedric tries to stand up, but Kerry kicks him back down. "I'm telling the truth! You two wouldn't have allowed her to go voluntarily, so I paid the beta to take her " "You are right. We would never have allowed you to take our newborn daughter to kill her," I say sarcastically. "She is just an innocent baby. We can teach her to do right."
Cedric laughs. "Blythe wolves are never innocent."
"My grandmother is," I argue.
"Abigail? Ha!" Cedric spats blood at me. "That witch is hardly innocent." Guards grab him and pull him to his feet. He fights against their hold while screaming. "We are all going to die!" He shouts as thunder crackles overhead. The guards yelp as Cedric's arms glow red. The wizard chants a spell and disappears while lightning crackles through the room.
The room is silent for a moment, and I hold my daughter. I look at her face and can't imagine my precious baby causing harm to anyone. I look at Magnus. "Do you think he is right? That our little girl is dangerous?"
"No, he is just some old crackpot wizard," Magnus wraps his arms around me. "Nova will be a good girl. We will make sure of it."
"Are you so sure?" Kerry asks.
"What? Yes, Kerry, we are sure," Magnus huffs. "Are you going to punish Cedric?"
"If we find him and manage to capture him," Kerry chuckles. "And Rocky will be punished too."
"Good," I mumble.
"Let's go home then," Moira sighs.
We all walk out of the room and down the big hallway. Members of the witch's council stand and look at my daughter with wide, judging eyes. Ruby growls in my head. I know she is ready for another fight.
An hour later, we are back at the hospital, and I am beyond relieved to have both of my pups in my arms. I am reluctant to allow anyone, even Magnus, to hold them. Magnus tucks the pups into their little crib and then wheels it to the bed before lying beside me. I have a hard time resting, but eventually, I allow myself to fall asleep. Crying wakes me up an hour later, and the pups are both snug in their little bed. Magnus places them in my arms so I can nurse them.
"Do we have to live our whole lives worrying about Nova being kidnapped?" I ask my mate.
He sighs, "I don't want to think about that, Naomi. But it's a reality we have to face."
"I'll quit working at the archive and stay home to keep an eye on them," I sigh.
"I don't want you to do that, Naomi. You love the archive, and they love having you there," Magnus pleads.
"But I love my daughter more, Magnus. And I can't trust anyone besides us to keep her safe," I argue.
"Kerry said he'll hire the best nannies and keep guards on her-"
"I don't want others to be tasked with protecting my pup, Magnus. I'll stay home and protect our daughter," I demand, and he sighs.
"If that's what you want to do, Naomi," Magnus concedes.
"It's not what I want, but it's what I have to do," I look at pups asleep in my arms. If giving up the job I love keeps them safe, I will do it for them.
