Rewriting My Heart's Fate

I drew a sharp breath. So that was their plan! The Albright family's only goal is to appease their spoiled daughter, Vivian! Just because she threw a tantrum, I was supposed to sacrifice my entire life to make it right? They used Zachary to threaten me, trying to force me into submission!

"In your dreams!" I spat each word. "My name won't disappear so easily. I'll make sure the whole world knows it was the Albrights who framed me!"

"I advise against it," Murphy replied coldly. A sinister smile curled on his lips. "Don't forget. Zach is still in our hands. With just one word from me, there's no telling what might happen to the boy..."

"Don't you dare!" I shot to my feet, trembling with fury. "If you lay so much as a finger on Zach, I'll make sure you pay for it!"

Just then, a voice rang out behind me. "Pay for what, Ms. Wiley?" I turned and was horrified to see a group of men in suits surrounding us.

Murphy's smile grew even more smug. "See? I told you not to do anything foolish. Otherwise, your poor son"

Before he could finish, I cut him off. My rage was boiling over. My fists clenched so tightly they ached, and my face contorted with fury.

I didn't care about the anger. I had only one thought-fight to the death with these monsters!

"You cowards! Come after me instead of using a five-year-old boy as leverage!" I shouted. My voice was strained.

The world spun, and my legs trembled beneath me. Even so, I summoned every ounce of strength and lunged toward Murphy. In an instant, one of his bodyguards stepped forward and grabbed my wrist.

Pain shot through me. It was sharp and unrelenting. It felt as though my wrist would snap under the pressure. But I thrashed and struggled with all my might. I was determined to break free and take Murphy down with me.

"Let me go! I'll kill this bastard!" I shouted.

"Evelyn, you'd better calm down." Murphy sneered. His tone was dripped with mockery. "You? Against me? Don't make me laugh. If you know what's good for you, you'll do as I say. Don't worry. If you stay out of our way, I promise your son unharmed."

Grief and rage consumed me. My tears flowed uncontrollably. I felt a deep sense of guilt for Zachary, knowing I failed to protect him.

I had let him down, and because of that, he had to endure so much pain. It was all my fault. I had brought him into this nightmare.

"Stop fighting back," Murphy said dismissively. "If you truly care about that boy, you'd stay far, far away. Forget about seeing him again for the rest of your life."

"Keep dreaming!" I glared at him with unrelenting hatred, wishing I could claw that smug look off his face. Murphy waved and signaled his men to release me. I collapsed to the ground. I cradled my bruised and aching wrist as my body trembled.

"You monsters... this isn't over." I gritted my teeth. My voice was breaking with sobs.
