Chapter 50
“M, are you alright?” Creep asked when he noticed Emerald looking at a distance.
“Huh?” young Morgan said, looking at him and Daryl alternately unaware of what they say.
“You look so disturbed; what is it? Did something happen in the Software Group?” Daryl asked.
“No, nothing. Everything’s good there, and I think we will be able to finish the game in no time.” Young Morgan replied immediately. It was the truth; everything ran smoothly in her team, but she was only troubled by what Jace had told her.
“Then what were you thinking? I’ve been discussing some things here, and we can’t get a response from you,” her friend Creep asked, concerned.
“It’s personal, I’m sorry.”
“Are you okay? Do you want us to cancel this meeting?”
“No, Daryl. Let’s continue. We have to settle this case, or that company will continue doing something like this. And who knows, they might target us again.”
“Alright, then, get yourself up. You must listen and understand everything, or we won’t finish anything.” Creep said,
“Yeah, I’m sorry,” Emerald said apologetically. “Where were we?” she asked, and they discussed it again. This time, Emerald gave them her full attention.
“Mr. Higginson sent his attorney to us, and we have already talked,” Creep informed, making her nod in acknowledgment. “He said he’d take care of everything as long as we give them all the evidence that we have and provide him with everything he needed when submitting relevant documents about the game.”
“Please do as he says. It’s a relief that we don’t need to go through every trial without worry.” Emerald agreed.
“So, you must relax and focus on your projects and your nanny’s case. Liam already told us about some details, and I hope the detective will finally find her through the leads that he got from Sorrento.” Creep said, concerned.
“I hope so, too.”
After all their discussion, Emerald ended the day in ACEGame and went home. Liam was not there because he had to go to a place that Sorrento told Detective Santos. She found her son and Jace playing happily in the living room when she got in. It was a sight she never thought she would witness after discovering she was pregnant. She didn’t know how long she had been standing there, but Ace’s voice made her return to her senses.
“Mom, you’re home!”
“Yes, dear. How was your day at school?” she said as she approached her son with a broad smile. She didn’t want Ace to think that she was sad because she wouldn’t be able to deny that, knowing for a moment she was.
“Everything’s good, Mom. And I enjoyed it so much. I have a lot of friends now, and they like me too,” the boy said as she led her to the couch where his father was. Emerald slumped herself and leaned back, and young Higginson saw tiredness and weariness on her face even though she was smiling.
Ace sat beside Emerald and started massaging her hands, making her smile at him and say. “My sweet little boy.”
“Anything for you, Mom. I want you to feel relaxed when you get home.”
“I already feel relaxed the moment I see you.” the boy smiled at her, “It’s okay now, darling. You can stop and play.” Ace nodded before he went down from the couch and got his toys sitting on the floor. Jace looked at Emerald and then sat beside her.
“What are you doing?” she whispered. She didn’t want to get their son’s attention.
“You look tired,” Jace said instead, but he chuckled when he heard what Emerald said in a low voice,
“No, I’m not. I’m perfectly fine, and I don’t need you.”
“Yeah, yeah, if you say so,” Jace replied, smiling. Although he had not gotten over their last conversation, he couldn’t help but feel happy now that he was seeing his wife and talking to her. The absence of Liam’s presence in the house made him feel like the happiest man on earth.
“Mom, where’s uncle Liam?” Ace asked suddenly, making EMerald’s forehead crease.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Uncle?” she asked the boy, who nodded and replied,
“Daddy said he was jealous when I called someone else Daddy. So, I decided to call him uncle instead.” Young Morgan looked at Jace, who just shrugged his shoulders. Liam is her friend, and although she doesn’t like Ace to call her friend Daddy, she also doesn’t like the boy to avoid him.
“Don’t you like him now?” Emerald asked,
“Of course not! I love Uncle Liam, and that will never change. He has been good to me and you ever since, but I also didn’t want Daddy to feel sad.” The boy replied, “Don’t worry, Mommy. Uncle Liam holds a special place in my heart. I know how good he is, and I also know that he will do everything for us.”
Emerald was touched and felt proud of Ace. She knew that he was smart and very understanding. But he was still young, so she didn’t expect him to say something like what he had just said. On the other hand, Jace felt a pang of pain in his chest, knowing another man was out there, his son treated as a father. Although he didn’t like it, he also couldn’t prevent the boy from feeling that way towards the man he was jealous of. He was gone for years, and Liam had been a father to Ace, so there was nothing that he could do but accept the fact that other than him, Ace had another father through Liam.
“I’ll just go to my room and rest,” Emerald said after a few minutes.
“Alright, Mom. We’ll call you at dinnertime.” Ace replied happily.
“Please do that, baby,” Emerald replied before she got up, kissing Ace before going upstairs. Jace followed her with his gaze since she didn’t even look at him, and young Morgan felt conscious of the kind of look he was giving her.
“I should stop thinking about him,” Emerald told herself after she entered her bedroom and started undressing. “A good bath will calm my nerves,” she added as she wore her robe before entering the bathroom and taking a bath.
Emerald was drying her hair when her room door opened, and Jace came in, “What are you doing here?” she asked with wide eyes. She didn’t want to be alone with him yet since she felt she wanted him more than ever. ‘Oh, this is not good.’ she thought when she saw him lock the door.
