Chapter 323
Despite his hectic schedule, Brett made the choice to stay back in Peterborough with Eloise.
Thanks to his connections, Donny managed to secure a small office space. Though it was small, it had all the essentials. This was where Brett conducted his business, with his bodyguards standing guard outside. Donny, on the other hand, was always on the move, coming and going from various locations.
The following day, Harvey rushed back from Britain. He was travel-weary and filled with guilt.
At the entrance of the ICU, Brett got into a physical altercation with him. Even though Harvey didn't fight back, Brett's hand was still slightly red and swollen.
As Donny applied ointment to Brett's hand, he couldn't help but make a cheeky remark, "You really should watch your temper at your age!"
Brett's anger resurfaced, "I don't think I hit him hard enough! That bastard, I could kill him!"
While they were talking, there was a commotion at the door.
Donny went to check and returned with Orlena. He was tactful enough to excuse himself.
Orlena took a few steps forward, hesitant to get too close.
Brett casually took out a cigarette, lit it and asked in a soft voice, "What brings you here?"
She raised the ointment in her hand, "I came to apply your medicine!"
In truth, Brett had already applied the medication, but he didn't mind her doing it again.
In the cramped space of the couch, she sat next to him, carefully applying the ointment to his hand as he slowly smoked his cigarette, watching her. Her face was as smooth as silk, her eyelashes long and thick.
Brett casually asked, "Isn't that boy good? Why didn't you stay with him?"
She was taken aback, before she understood what he was referring to. She took a light breath, "I don't really like him!"
As she finished, she released his hand and softly said, "All done!"
She tried to leave, but he grabbed her, forcing her to sit back down. Maybe it was her imagination, but she felt like she was getting too close, close enough to smell the faint scent of tobacco on him.
Brett's gaze was instense.
His handsome fingers lightly traced her lips. She couldn't help but tremble, calling out his name in a helpless tone.
Brett leaned in, pressing his forehead against hers and murmured, "Why are you here? Are you here to atone for your brother's sins, or can you not suppress your own feelings, or are you attracted to a man more than ten years your senior? Tell me, what do you want from me?"
His directness made her feel ashamed. She couldn't respond, but Brett wasn't looking for her answer.
He kissed her.
Just like the last time, he gently pressed her against his chest, tenderly kissing her lips to make her relax, then gently explored, tasting her over and over again.
She felt uneasy, wanting to struggle, but he held her waist tightly, and before she knew it, she was sitting on his lap.
He kissed her with such gentleness and dominance, her mind went blank. All she could do was hold onto him tightly, but after a while she slid down to embrace his back.
She left his room feeling weak in her knees, not knowing why he treated her like this.
After that, she started avoiding him. Occasionally, when they ran into each other
in the hospital, she would pretend not to see him, and Brett wouldn't call out to
her, he would just turn and walk away.
Brett watched her retreating figure, lost in thought.
Donny chuckled, "You must have upset her!"
Brett slipped his hands into his pockets, thinking about their kiss. The way she nestled in his arms like a kitten, biting him lightly in annoyance but hitting the wrong spot, making him uncomfortable.
He knew he desired her. When dealing with Eloise's issues, he couldn't help but think about his relationship with her.
He wondered if there was a possibility. Among countless impossibilities, he was looking for one possibility.
Before Brett could find his way, Harvey made a significant decision. He secretly sent Linda to the lab and decided to set Eloise free.
Brett slapped Harvey twice, but he couldn't bring himself to hit him again, knowing how hard this decision must have been for Harvey.
The night Linda was sent away, Brett drank heavily. Donny tried to persuade him to stop but to no avail. In the end, he had to ask Orlena to intervene, "Mr. Brett has an important meeting tomorrow morning. He must maintain his composure!"
After much pleading, Orlena finally agreed.
Donny opened the door for her but didn't go in, whispering, "I'll be right outside!"
The small room was dimly lit. It took her a while to adjust to the darkness. Brett was leaning against the couch, several bottles of red wine in front of him. He looked up at her when he heard the footstep, then poured himself another glass. "No moredrinking!" She approached him, holding his hand to prevent him from reaching for the bottle again.
Brett watched her silently, his eyes bloodshot. After a while, he finally spoke, "Leave!"
Orlena refused. She knelt on the carpet, gathering all the bottles of wine. As she did this, she seemed like a child playing house. It was somewhat childish.
Despite being drunk, Brett knew she was no longer a child. In fact, she was a mature woman.
He gently pulled her towards him, examining her closely.
During this difficult time, they only had each other.
Brett's voice was hoarse, "Orlena, let's give us a try!"
Under the influence of alcohol, he compromised. Like any ordinary man, he couldn't resist the temptation to love the woman he desired. At that moment, he even thought that if they had a relationship that cannot be undone, then he had to take responsibility for her. No matter how difficult it was, they had to face it together.
Orlena didn't quite catch his words, but then, he was kissing her.
She was pressed against the couch as he kissed her, his lips tasting of the fine wine, intoxicating her.
She called out his name in fear, while Brett gently stroked her face, keeping his gaze on her.
Orlena was trembling uncontrollably. She knew what he wanted because the way he looked at her was how a man looks at a woman, a mixture of desire and possession.
He took her on the couch. It was tender yet restrained, but it wasn't enough for either of them. He had lost his restraint due to the alcohol.
Later, he carried her to the small bed in the next room. The bed was made of springs, so any movement would result in a creaking sound.
Brett was fierce, shaking the small spring bed like a stormy boat, and mixed with her involuntary moans, it trembled non-stop.
She had been in relationships before, but she was not very experienced. Brett was dominant in bed, and he didn't need her to be an expert.
Outside, Donny heard the commotion and knew exactly what was happening. He told the bodyguard to step back, and he guarded the door for most of the night.
Came dawn, she woke up in his arms.
Her body ached a little, but it was a pleasant ache, one that made her want to stay in bed.
"Awake?" A man's husky voice came from above.
Orlena kept silent.
Brett didn't want to get up either. He rarely indulged himself like this, especially when he had a pile of problems to deal with. He grabbed his watch from the bedside table to check the time. In half an hour, he would have to get up. There were things he wanted to talk to her about.
But before he could speak, Orlena broke the silence, her voice shaking slightly. "Mr. Brett, don't worry, last night was just a one-night stand."
Mr. Brett...
A one-night stand...
Brett chuckled sarcastically, tugging at her ear. "Who was it that called my name all night long, making my heart melt? Now that you're satisfied, I'm Mr. Brett again? If everyone took advantage of me like this, I'd be too busy to handle it all, and I'd end up dying in some woman's bed."
His words were harsh, and her eyes reddened.
Brett felt guilty too. He loved her, but because of Eloise, he couldn't be completely open with her. In the end, he held her tightly, whispering sweet words into her ear. "Did you get the bunny? Do you like it?"
Orlena's eyes welled up with tears, and she obediently nodded. "I love it!"
Brett didn't say anything more, just holding her. After a while, he whispered into her ear, "I'm glad you like it."
He started to get dressed, telling her to sleep a bit more while he was doing so. "I'll be back at noon..."
He was used to flirting with women, but at this moment, he wasn't as smooth as usual. His little girl was different.
He was neatly dressed, sitting on the edge of the bed, pinching her cheeks. "I have to go now, or I'll be late for the meeting. Look at my neck, did the little wildcat leave any scratches?"
Orlena wrapped herself in the blanket, watching him with teary eyes. They had sex, but he hadn't said anything important, and she didn't dare to ask him for a future. She didn't think it was the right time to ask.
Orlena was upset, and left without waiting for him to come back. She avoided him
and deliberately avoided meeting him, but she couldn't sleep at night because of
him.
Brett was very busy.
Four days later, she received a call from him. His voice was gentle but tired. "I'm going back to Brockville tomorrow. Can we meet?"
When he said this, she realized how much she had been longing for him. Their status made her inevitably humble.
In the end, they met in a private restaurant. Donny greeted her at the door and led
her into a private room.
The spacious private room only had Brett.
He was wearing a light blue shirt and black pants. A navy blue jacket was casually
taken off and placed on the back of the chair, as Brett read a document.
Donny opened the door, smiling, "Miss Orlena is here."
He stayed outside considerately.noveldrama
Orlena stood by the door, watching Brett nervously. It was tricky dealing with older
men, you never knew what they were thinking.
Brett put down the document and looked at her. After a while, he smiled and said,
"Why are you standing there? I'm not short of a doorkeeper here. Be good and come over here."
Orlena understood his meaning and felt annoyed. He was still treating her like a
child.
But she couldn't resist the longing and moved closer, sitting next to him.
Brett personally poured her a cup of water. As he put it down, he asked her with a gentle tone, "Does it still hurt over there?"
What do you think?
