The Alpha’s Surrogate Mate

Chapter 20: The trusted has betrayed

Bonnie’s heart increased its beat as she stared amazingly at the door. Why hadn’t she placed the pieces together?

Elixir was the only one allowed to give her parents food. Bonnie specifically instructed her parents not to accept food from anyone.

So, it was Elixir that poisoned her parents. But the reason why she would do it was what confused her the most.

Elixir was someone that she had started to trust. And she was even the first person she confided in.

Bonnie felt a stab in the stomach as she raced towards the door. When she opened the door, She saw Mercury speaking with a maid.

Bonnie let her dismiss her before she moved closer. “Where’s Elixir?”

“I sincerely don’t know. I heard she was the one serving you. Suddenly, I was asked to come here. Is there anything you need? I could do it for you.”

Bonnie stared at her for a moment, as she contemplated what to do. “Can you help me find Elixir’s whereabouts?”

Mercury nodded. ” I will also be around,” she took a short bow and walked away.

Bonnie went back inside, feeling uneasy. She couldn’t even finish her food. She kept moving to and fro while waiting for Mercury.

She couldn’t stop feeling a wrenching pain in the depth of her heart and the fact that she was betrayed by someone she trusted.

It took almost forever before the door opened and Mercury walked in.

She took a short bow. “I’ve found her. She was the maid that poisoned Brook and his wife.”

Bonnie’s eyes went wide and dark with shock. For a moment, she couldn’t even bring herself to talk. Shock kept her motionless and speechless for a moment.

She couldn’t just place it. Elixir was the maid she instructed to always give her family food so they wouldn’t be poisoned but she was the one that ended up poisoning them?

“Lead the way!” She said finally. “I want to speak with her.”

Mercury walked out of the room and she followed quickly, with a pounding heart. Her hands were vibrating and she held her clothes so tight with them.

They walked for some minutes before they took a turn just opposite the dungeon where her parents were used to staying in.

From afar, Bonnie stared at Elixir curled up on the floor.

“Stay back,” she instructed Mercury and moved closer to Elixir.

On seeing her, Elixir stood up and grabbed the cell bar. “Luna.”

Bonnie regarded her for a moment. “Why are you here? Why did you poison them?” Her voice shook with tremor to it.

Elixir closed her eyes against the tears but they came streaming down her face. “I’m so sorry. I should have let you know about it. But they made me promise them. I was not supposed to say a word.”

Bonnie blinked once, Unable to comprehend what she was saying.

“What are you saying Elixir! I don’t understand. Why will my parents want you to kill them? Why would they force you to stay quiet,” Bonnie sobbed quietly.

Elixir opened her eyes and shook her head slightly. ” Brook told me it was to save you. If he died, you would be free from being threatened by the Alpha. They made me promise to poison them and I wasn’t supposed to tell you.”

Bonnie stared for a while as different things went through her mind. Why would her parents want to die to save her? Didn’t they know that death was actually going to take her?

Aside from that, it was unlike her parents to make such a rash decision.

Bonnie sucked in a breath as tears broke free from her eyes. She felt tired already. There were a lot of things she wished she could understand but the answers eluded her.

The world doesn’t even look compromising to her.

She hung her head against the bar and sobbed silently. Amidst it, she could hear Elixir’s sobs as well.

But she still found it difficult to trust her. What was she supposed to do?

Then, she remembered the one the Alpha had told her. Bonnie looked up at Elixir and watched the tears stream down her face as well.

Elixir’s face actually spoke of innocence and Bonnie wondered if she was accusing her wrongly already.

“Elixir,” she took her hand into hers. “I’m sorry this had to happen to you. I’m sorry for putting you into my trouble.”

” It’s ok,” she tried to smile. ” I will do anything for you anyways.”

Bonnie nodded, with a satisfied smile. “Thanks. But,” she stopped briefly and settled on how she was supposed to say it. “Is there anything you are hiding from me? We are alone now. You can tell me.”

Elixir blinked once, ” Something like what?”

Bonnie rubbed her hand slowly. “Anything. Something that is supposed to be between us.”Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

“Oh,” she nodded suddenly and Bonnie smiled. If Elixir would tell her that, then she would continue to trust her.

Elixir pulled her hand away from her slowly and withdrew a note from her bra. She stretched it towards Bonnie. “Brook knew he was going to die and told me to give you this.”

Bonnie furrowed her bows at the note. Her father left something for her? She took the note slowly and looked up at Elixir again.

She realized after a moment that Elixir wasn’t going to tell her anything else. But she couldn’t judge anyway if that alone could make her a betrayal.

“I will check up on you again,” she smiled at Elixir and stood to leave. She stopped slightly and looked back again.

She remembered what the Alpha had said. Bonnie was amid the enemies. There was seriously not going to be someone she could trust. Anyone could actually plot against her. Anyone could even be working with the person that kidnapped the Luna.

Bonnie didn’t understand it at first but the more she lived in the pack house, the wiser she got.

She walked to Mercury. “Let’s go!’ she boomed and grabbed her clothes so hard that it won’t show she was holding a note.

They both walked back to Xavier’s room but soldiers were waiting for her already.

The moment she got to the front of the door, two men walked out of the room.

“Seize her!” One of the men said and lots of soldiers proceeded towards her before she could blink.

One took her by the right, while the other by the left.

Bonnie watched them, unable to grasp what was really happening.

The men walked closer to her. Bonnie recognized one of the men to be Stephen but the other was a face she had never seen.

Stephen regarded her for a moment before he slowly pulled up her left hand.

A gasp escaped Bonnie when she remembered the note she was holding by her right fist.

“What the fuck are you doing!” She yelled, angrily.

Stephen didn’t answer her and instead, unclenched her fist to reveal nothing. He then proceeded to grab the right hand.

Bonnie struggled hard but she was no match. Her traitorous heart hammered wildly in her chest. She didn’t even know what was in the note. How could it be used to bring her down?

And that was when she remembered Elixir.

Undeniably, Elixir was the betrayal. She was a spy.
