Chapter 1725
Aurora had already set some ground rules with the nanny: absolutely no taking Elijah to deserted areas, period.
She was so swamped with stuff at the art studio most days, she couldn't really spend as much time with her son as she'd like. So, she figured the best thing she could do was try to head off any potentially dangerous situations before they even started.
"Okay, good! If you ever feel like it's too much to handle Elijah on your own, I can always hire a security guard to help out," Aurora offered.
"That won't be necessary right now. But if I do need help, I'll let you know," the nanny replied.
Aurora nodded, though her gaze drifted out the window to the big house across the street that was still under renovation.
She thought to herself that when the new neighbors finally moved in, she should probably be the first to go over and say hi.
After all, as the old saying goes, "Good fences make good neighbors." Aurora always believed it was important to have a good relationship with the folks next door.
...
Felicity couldn't believe it—she'd been stuck in bed for days! What she'd thought was just a little stomach bug had turned into a dizzy, can't-get-up mess.
"Still not feeling better?" Miles asked, worry lining his face. "Felicity, maybe we should go back to the hospital."
It's not like Miles could concentrate on work anyway. He'd been sneaking out at dawn, signing whatever documents absolutely needed his attention at the office, then hurrying straight back to her side.
"But I don't want to go to the hospital..." Felicity mumbled, her voice small.noveldrama
Honestly, when Felicity was sick, she turned into a total kid again. If you said the wrong thing, she'd get all teary-eyed, blinking up at you with a trembling chin.
Miles pulled her gently into a hug, rubbing her back. "Okay, okay, we don't have to go. How about I get the doctor to come here, just to take some blood and run some tests? Would that be alright?"
"I don't want to get poked. Needles hurt..." she protested, pouting.
Miles just sighed, brushing a strand of hair off her forehead and giving her a light tap. "Don't be silly! Come on, just a quick pinch, and then I'll stop worrying. You can whine all you want about everything else."
Felicity thought for a second, then finally nodded.
It took Miles a while to calm her down, and then he left to call the doctor. Not long after, Dorothy showed up, driving over with the family doctor riding shotgun.
"How's Felicity? Still feeling rough?" Dorothy asked the second she was inside.
"Yeah," Miles admitted, looking more exhausted than Felicity by now. There were dark circles under his eyes that hadn't been there a week ago.
"Well, let's get the doctor in there pronto!" Dorothy said, ushering the doctor toward Felicity's room, medical bag in hand.
But just as the doctor rolled up her sleeves and prepared the supplies, Felicity piped up, "Ms. Sanchez,
Miles can you guys wait net
while get my blood drawn?
ver
makes me nervous when people watch..."
Dorothy jumped in right away, "Of course! We'll wait in the kitchen. Yell if you need anything, sweetheart." She tugged Miles along with her, leaving Felicity and the doctor alone.
As the doctor was setting up, Felicity bit her lip and said, “Can I ask you something?"
The doctor looked up. "Of course, what is it?"
"Could you... could you run a pregnancy test with my blood? But, please, whatever the result is, don't tell Miles. Not until I know for sure, okay?"
She'd sort of started to suspect it might be a possibility, but it just seemed so unlikely. The last thing Felicity wanted was to get Miles's hopes up for nothing. The guilt would just eat her alive.
"And if Mrs. Lopez asks about it?" the doctor inquired.
"Don't tell her either. Just let me know first. If it turns out I am pregnant, I'll tell everyone myself. If not... well, we'll just pretend this never happened."
The doctor nodded, and Felicity took a deep breath, bracing herself for the needle —and maybe, just maybe, for some much bigger news.
What do you think?
