Chapter 1727
Dorothy was out of options. She could only pull out the same old excuse, over and over again. But honestly, even the best excuse wears thin if you use it too many times.
Everett wasn't buying it. "You're old and I'm young? Give me a break. I remember every single year!"
With a sigh, Dorothy switched tactics. She grabbed Everett's hand, giving it a playful shake and turned on her best puppy-dog eyes. "Come on, babe, we've been together forever. Married all these years, barely spent a day apart. Are you really gonna get mad at me over something like this? You want me to feel all guilty and miserable?"
Everett shot her a look.
Clearly, that routine worked on him.
With a reluctant but fond smile, he pulled her into his arms and tapped her forehead with his finger. "I just worry you don't keep me in your heart anymore."
"Who else would I keep in my heart, huh?"
"Oh, please! Want me to list a few? Like Kenneth Nelson, Lane—”
"Okay, okay, time out!" Dorothy quickly stood on tiptoe, covering his mouth with
her hand. "That was years ago! You really remember all that?"
She couldn't believe it. Everyone says women hold grudges, but Everett's memory was a steel trap.
"Of course I remember. Not just that, I remember a certain someone DMing me on WhatsApp, asking for a...picture, wasn't it?" Everett clicked his tongue theatrically. "Still want to see it?"
Dorothy, refusing to let him have the last word, shot right back, "Absolutely! After all these years, never got to see it. Maybe I should just ask Karen for some... resources."
"Don't you dare!"
"I wouldn't dream of it." She grinned, her eyes crinkling at the corners. Sure, time had left its mark on Dorothy's face, but to Everett, she was still the girl who stole his heart the very first day they met.
He scooped her up in his arms. "Text your assistant. You're skipping work today. We've got an anniversary to celebrate."
"Well, look at you, Mr. Lopez! Married life's changed you. Work's not your number one priority anymore? And now you're dragging me along to play hooky!"
"Oh, there's a lot more I want to drag you into. You'll see tonight."
Dorothy just rolled her eyes.
What on earth was he planning?
...
Ever since the doctor left, Felicity hadn't put her phone down for a second.
"If you're not feeling well, you should try to get some sleep," Miles said as he walked in, automatically reaching out to feel her forehead. "You're not running a fever, at least."
"I'm fine. I don't want to sleep."noveldrama
"How about a bite to eat?"
"Everything makes me want to puke. Honestly, I feel better with an empty stomach Felicity looked up at him, then snuggled in, resting her head in Miles' tap. "Langston, have I made you miss a lot of work because of me?"
The question made Miles' heart clench.
He'd always liked the carefree, reckless side of Felicity more than this anxious
one.
"I told you before, nothing's more important than you. Don't worry about it."
He understood how she was feeling. People tended to overthink when they weren't feeling well. It was normal.
Gently, Miles stroked her long hair, over
You've over. "Get well soon, okay?
u've still got a ton of stuff to pick out for our wedding! Can you really trust anyone else with that?"
"Nope." She smiled, eyes curving happily. "Langston, do you think you'll ever regret marrying me?"
"Not in a million years!"
Just as the words left Miles' mouth, Felicity's phone suddenly started ringing!
What do you think?
