Chapter 334
Chapter 334:.
Hayden took Benjamin back to his school after they left the room.
Benjamin still had to attend a military drill. And he thought it would be weird to go home with Hayden now that he had set the record straight.
On the way to the daycare to pick up the kids, Hayden got a call from Joseph.
“Where are you?”
“Driving to pick up the kids, I’m almost there.”
“You can come back.” Joseph purposely slowed his speech, sounding polite. “I asked Mark to pick them up. We’re eating out tonight.”
“With Grandpa?” Hayden paused, then realized that tonight was New Year’s Eve. “I’ll go home to change.”
“Come like this.”
Her voice was pleasantly low. Suddenly, Hayden blushed. “Could you wait a second, I have to change.”
“No need, put on something that makes you feel comfortable.”
“No, I have to, it’s a date!”.
He’s been busy with the ST Group, and yet Joseph made some time to go out to dinner with her. It was such a surprise – how could she not take him seriously? She had to be well dressed, and outshine any other woman who appeared in Joseph’s sight.
When she got home, she pulled all the clothes out of her closet and made a video call with Alayna, asking her for advice.
It was morning at Alayna’s house, the sun shining on her face as she sat on her bed. She waved her hand constantly as Hayden showed her the clothes.
“Too plain, it’s going to clash too much in the festive New Year’s Eve atmosphere.”
“Not yet, everyone is wearing red now, you don’t want to do the same if you want to stand out.”
“….”.
“This dress is fine, but it’s winter there, isn’t it? You can get sick.”
It took Hayden about an hour to finally decide on her outfit for the date.
Her date was in the most bustling square in town, T Square, and it was saturated with chants of joy.
“Where are you?”
She spoke to Joseph on the phone. The snow had just fallen and it was still cold out here.
“Walk down the canopied walkway.” Joseph’s voice rang on the phone, “I’m right at the end of it.”
“Okay.” Hayden was chilled to the bone, snorted, muttered, “Why don’t we meet at the mall? It’s warmer there.”
Despite his complaint, he went in under the awning as Joseph had told him.
He continued talking to Joseph as he walked.
“I’ve never noticed the square before. It’s beautiful, how about we hang out and make our New Year’s resolutions here after dinner?”
“Sure.”
“The sky is beautiful.” Hayden muttered without stopping his pacing. She looked around curiously when she’s almost at the end of the hallway, “I’m here, where are you?”.
She walked out down the hallway as she said. And when her vision widened, a two-story tall Christmas tree came into her vision. On it hung bells, presents and the like.
It was not strange to see a Christmas tree in the square. But what was strange was that there was no one around the tree. The square was crowded with people when he arrived, but now the people had disappeared.
“Joseph.” Hayden was nervous, he asked over the phone, “Where are you?”noveldrama
But then the call was hung up.
Puzzled, she looked at the phone. As she did, the light flickered and the cosmetics advertisement on the display hanging on the building was replaced by a familiar scene.
The first thing she heard was a child’s voice. “Joseph, you’re all set, you can talk now.”
Stella? Hayden raised his eyes at the sound of the voice.
The video was recorded in the living room of Joseph’s house. Must be resentful, Hayden thought, he could see a Christmas tree in the corner.
Facing the camera, Joseph looked nervous, his fingers rubbing his kneecap.
“Hayden…” he twisted his mouth, trying to sketch a smile he thought would be warm. But nervousness made him look a little awkward.
Covering his mouth, Hayden laughed.
“I have so many things to tell you, but they all get stuck in my throat as soon as I see you. So I decided to make this video and tell you my feelings. It was in March when I met you, it was in the elevator at the company. Before that, I thought there was no one to affect my life. But my world changed dramatically after I met you.”
Joseph seemed so affectionate, though the smile on his face was beginning to fade.
“Maybe it was when you first came to my house and cooked for Noah. For the first time in my life, I thought marriage might be a good idea. That thought scared me. By then, we hadn’t known each other for over a month. And I realized that love has nothing to do with time.
People started to emerge in the square, but Hayden didn’t notice.
“Then I started thinking about you all the time. I think of you when the sun rises, when the moon floats; I think of you when the sun smiles, when the clouds cry, and now, when the snow dances.”
Hayden felt something cold fall on his nose. Then he watched snowflakes fall as he lifted his head.
“I hope you’ll be with me forever.”
The video stopped there, and then Hayden heard music coming from the Christmas tree. He knew the song, Can’t Stop Loving You.
Out of nowhere, seven elves ran toward her prancing about, each with a box of presents in hand. They placed the gifts in Hayden’s hands.
Then many princesses arrived… almost every fairy tale character was there, with flowers and gifts in hand to give to Hayden.
In the blink of an eye, a hill of gifts was piled up beside her. She was still confused. She didn’t know what was happening, or what was going to happen.
