Chapter 24: Twist of Fate
Abhay's P.O.V
I watched in horror as Mikalya, the woman I had adored, the woman I had spent the best night of my life with...now turned into a beautiful white wolf whose fur glitter silver in the morning sunlight.
I couldn't even believe my eyes, couldn't believe that a human could suddenly...change...into a creature...a wolf!
I felt a numbing sensation take over me as I watched the other girl, Ruksaar, also change into a dark brown wolf as they jumped into the middle of the falcon flock and a fierce battle of survival began among the two groups. "No... please," I whimpered, unable to believe that any of this was even real.
I watched astonished as a falcon tried to get too close to the white wolf and it caught the bird's neck in its jaws. A sickening crunch of a sound later...she dropped the bird onto the ground, bloody and lifeless.
I felt a sense of complete helplessness take over me as I watched the battle continue. Blood splattered everywhere and the cried of the falcons, mingled with the growls of the wolves caused an uncanny cacophony that made me cover my ears in horror.
Even though the two wolves were vastly outnumbered, I could tell that they held the upper hand as the falcons fell back, some even choosing to fly away while they still could.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
"Cowards! Where do you think you're going?!" The only other human male in the area screamed out at the birds that had taken flight. "Come back or you won't have a home to return to!"
But the falcons didn't turn or return. They flew away at phenomenal speed, raising dust and debris in their wake.
But as the man turned to the remaining falcons, he took command and ordered them into a formation, hoping to take down the wolves.
The battle continued, with both sides unwilling to give up, I was left even more confused and flabbergasted. Dust swelled up in the sky, creating a hazy brown atmosphere that irritated my eye. How was any of this even possible? How could a person...a human being...transform into an animal with completely different anatomy? How was any of this even possible? Was I still asleep? That could be the only possible explanation...right? That I was still asleep and all of this was just a prolonged dream?
Bringing my hand up to my face, I slapped my cheeks hard enough that the sting made my head spin. But even then, the scene in front of me didn't change. The falcons were still fighting with the wolves, and as more blood spilled, I saw her beautiful white fur turn a deep, dark crimson.
Fear gripped my mind as I looked around the place, searching for some place to hide. But we were surrounded on all sides. Some of the falcons choosing to keep watch instead of participating in the battle, but even then, two against over fifty falcons were vastly outnumbered.
In the midst of the fracas, I couldn't pinpoint exactly where Mikalya was. The dust and the wingspans of the falcons kept her from view.
"Where is she?" I whispered to myself, taking a small step forward.
"Stand back!" a voice barked.
I turned towards the direction of the voice and found a young woman with the child. She came to stand in front of me, almost in a protective manner. It made me feel even more confused.
The child shouldn't have been brought here! Hell, the mother herself was a child! What were these two doing here in the first place?
"I... appreciate your help, but I think I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself," I said to the girl, who just rolled her eyes and stood in front of me unmoving.
"Stay right where you are if you don't want to draw the falcon's attention." She warned, holding the child closer to her chest. "It's the only way we can be safe." "But...but..."
"Shhh." She looked back at me in anger, just as a few falcons resettled their wings behind us. "Quiet! For now, they don't think of us as a threat. But if you start running around, they will come for us!"
I stilled instantly, afraid to make a sound as I looked back at the scene in front of me.
Suddenly...my mind went back to my dream. The white wolf that I always saw in them and the snow covered lands where it belonged.
It was Mikalya! It had always been her!
'Subha ke sapne hamesha sach hote hain.' (Morning dreams always come true)
My mother's voice reverberated in my mind as I finally understood the significance of those words.
My dreams had been a premonition of what was to come. And just like in my dreams, the white wolf that I had always associated with Mikalya...they were now a reality standing in front of my eyes that I couldn't deny.
When I mistakenly thought of a white wolf when I saw Mikalya for the first time, it wasn't a hallucination at all. It was real, as real as the very ground I walked on. Even though I was horrified by everything that was going on, all the blood and the gore...I couldn't tear my eyes away from her as she continued to battle the falcons.
She was so fearless, so brave and so magnificent that even the way she tore through the flock, laying bodies in her wake felt like a form of art.
But then, something even more astonishing happened right in front of my eyes. The bodies of the falcons that had been dead on the ground...suddenly transformed into human men...
I staggered back, my heart threatening to burst out of my chest as perspiration beaded my forehead. My breath came in pants as more and more of those falcons transformed, their bodies marred by scars and claw marks, blood oozing out freely.
Finally, Mikalya went for the only human man among the falcons. She rushed at him with inhuman speed and jumped high before sinking her teeth into his shoulders, causing the man to scream in pain.
Blood pooled at the base of his feet as his body went into a state of shock before she threw him down to the ground, just before he began begging.
"Please, I surrender. Forgive me please....spare my life. I will never do something like this again," he begged, joining his hands together.
But even though I knew it was a futile hope, I still wished that she would spare the man...
Maybe it was because I still saw him as a man and not a creature...but something told me that his arrogance was about to cause his demise. But when I thought that Mikalya would go for his neck, finally snapping it in half...she turned away from him, leaving him on the ground, crying in pain.
And then the blood soaked white wolf turned back towards us, motioning with its head and I saw the girl in front of me immediately start to walk towards her. "No, don-"
I went to reach out for her, but that was when Mikalya's head snapped in my direction, it's pure blue eyes meeting mine, making me take an instinctive step back.
The wolf held eye contact with me for a few seconds, as my whole body trembled in fear. But then, it turned and left, followed by the other brown wolf and the woman with the child,
And then they were just gone...leaving me alone in a scene of massacre, with dead bodies on all sides and several falcons circling in the sky...
