Chapter 137
After four years together, their relationship had definitely seen its ups and downs. No matter how much he hurt her, Allison just couldn't bring herself to dump Brody. Every time he tossed out a half-hearted apology, she found herself right back in his arms. Her friends called her out for it, saying she lacked a backbone. But she just couldn't help herself. She loved him too much, to the point of losing her self-respect. Her love was so consuming that Brody felt free to openly flaunt other women in front of her, humiliating and hurting her without a second thought. He was sure she'd never leave him.
Evelyn was leaving the club and happened to pass by the private room she knew she'd have to walk past. She spotted Allison there. Through the slightly open door, she also caught sight of Brody cozying up to some new girl. She knew Brody was Charles' good friend and that Allison was Brody's girlfriend. That was about the extent of it. In five years, Charles had never introduced her to them.
Evelyn hadn't planned on getting involved, but seeing Allison looking so downtrodden reminded her too much of herself hopelessly and just as pathetically in love with Charles. It just wasn't worth it.
"This guy is not worth it," Evelyn said.
Her words made Allison turn to look at her. She recognized Evelyn. Back when she was pursuing Brody, she'd often see Evelyn hanging around Charles, just like she did with Brody.
"Yeah, you're right. It's not worth it," Allison murmured.
"It's time to cut the cake," Brody said, stepping back a bit. However, his hand stayed on his new girl's waist. His playful and mocking gaze landed on Allison.
Allison forced a small smile. Brody had always said he only loved the cakes she baked, so every year on his birthday, she poured her heart into making one for him. But now, as she looked down at the cake in her hands, she decided not to go in. Instead, she called over a waiter.
Looking straight at Brody, she told the waiter, "Take this to the trash can."
The room went dead silent. Brody's face hardened as he glared at Allison. But Allison didn't look back. She turned and walked away. Her emotions were barely in check. How could it not hurt? She'd loved him for so long. The scene she'd just witnessed tore at her heart. Allison gave Evelyn a slight nod and hurried off. Around the corner, she leaned against the wall, and her eyes grew redder with tears.noveldrama
Just as the door to the private room
closed, Charles noticed Evelyn walking by. He suddenly got up and rushed out, catching up with Evelyn
and pulling her into an empty room.

His friends called out behind him, "Where are you going? Dahlia will be here any minute." But he ignored them.
Allison had left, and the room quickly returned to its usual lively chatter.
"Brody, looks like Allison's really upset this time, huh?" someone commented.
Brody shrugged it off. He tapped a cigarette out of the pack, and the woman beside him lit it for him immediately. He scoffed, "Give it half an hour. She'll be back like always."
Allison loved him too much. She'd throw a little fit, and if he just waited it out, she'd come back, trying to make things right again.

"Let go!" Evelyn kicked Charles in the leg.
Charles seemed unfazed by the pain as he pinned her against the door, his tone icy. "Evelyn, where are you hiding Charlie?"
He'd had Aiden look into it, but Charlie's whereabouts were still a mystery. Someone was clearly helping Evelyn keep Charlie hidden. Only the Brooks had the clout to pull that off in the Capital. Thinking of the Brooks, Charles' expression grew even darker.
