Chapter 508
Charles' voice cracked with emotion, his regret washing over him as tears traced paths down his cheeks. The weight of his guilt felt immense. They say men don't cry easily, but here he was, kneeling at the doorstep for hours, memories of past years flooding his mind. Each recollection deepened his regret, and with that came a crushing sense of debt. He felt he owed Eve and their daughter more than he could ever repay.
He could spend his life trying to make it up to Eve. But for Charlotte, there was no way to make amends. The burden of that irreparable regret pierced his heart like a needle, the pain spreading through his body and leaving him pale and weary.
Evelyn listened to his confession, her eyes lowered as she met his gaze filled with guilt. She had known this day would come when Charles would finally see Sandy for who she truly was. From the moment Charles had pushed Adam to donate a kidney for Sandy, Evelyn had awaited this revelation. Now, it had arrived.
Evelyn gently touched a photo of Charlotte, holding it close to her heart. Though she didn't care for Charles' apologies, Charlotte had longed for his fatherly love. Her eyes, cold and unwavering, bore into Charles. "Charles, what's the point of kneeling here? Until Charlotte's death is avenged, you don't even have the right to apologize to her!"
Charles' proud stature faltered at Evelyn's words. His lips parted, but he struggled to find the right words. He couldn't deny his role in Charlotte's death. Had he not prioritized Sandy for a kidney, Dahlia wouldn't have been able to take Charlotte's. Even if he hadn't known Dahlia's actions, his initial decision had set everything in motion.
"Eve..." he started, his voice fraught with tension, but the words wouldn't come. Evelyn saw his expression and knew what he was about to say. Her anger flared, her gaze sharp as a blade. "Charles, are you going to tell me Dahlia's already been punished, that she's crippled and her hands are useless?"
"No..." Charles remembered the foolish defenses he'd made for Dahlia in the past. But that wasn't his intention now. He knew he was guilty regarding Charlotte's kidney.
"Then why are you hesitating? If you haven't thought about avenging Charlotte, don't act like you loved her so much or feel so guilty. This act only disgusts me and Charlotte," Evelyn interrupted, her voice icy.
"Eve, do you think the only way for you and Charlotte to forgive me is if I die?" Charles asked, his eyes searching hers deeply.
Evelyn's brow furrowed. "What good is your death now, Charles? If you're going to die, at least bring Dahlia, the one responsible for Charlotte's death, to justice first. Avenge Charlotte, then you can die at her grave."
Charles, realizing something was amiss, asked, "Eve, why do you keep saying Dahlia is the one who killed Charlotte?"noveldrama

Eve's view of Dahlia was entirely different from what Charles had expected. If Dahlia's story were true, Eve should have harbored more hatred for him. In the past, Charles might have thought Eve blamed Dahlia out of lingering feelings for him. But now, he knew any love Eve had for him was long gone. It
couldn't be about emotions.
"Why? Because the kidney intended for Charlotte didn't even match Sandy; she couldn't use it!" Evelyn revealed.
Charles was taken aback by the revelation. Sandy couldn't have used Charlotte's kidney at all. "Sandy couldn't use it, yet Dahlia took it when Charlotte desperately needed surgery," Evelyn continued.
If Sandy had truly needed the kidney, if her life had been in danger, Evelyn might have, despised Dahlia's selfishness but wouldn't have
wished her dead. Hearing Evelyn's words, Charles remembered something Wesley had mentioned: "She deliberately stole the kidney to harm your daughter. Worse, she hired a hitman to cover it up."
Charles had personally questioned Wesley, who had endured intense pressure without changing his story. Charles had believed Eve's hatred for Dahlia was due to Dahlia giving Charlotte's kidney to Sandy, O resulting in Sandy's survival and Charlotte's death. But if what Evelyn said was true, that the kidney Charlotte needed wasn't a match for Sandy, then Dahlia had maliciously intended to kill Charlotte. Her claims of loving Sandy too much to lose her were all fabrications.
