Chapter 543
The man's brow furrowed slightly at her words.
"I don't remember."
Stella stared at him, incredulous. "You don't remember? What, did you lose your memory or something?"
The doctor had already examined him. Aside from a mild concussion and some scrapes, there wasn't anything else wrong.
"Amnesia?" The man looked genuinely at a loss. "I really can't remember a thing."
Stella's breath caught in her throat as she studied his face.
He looked back at her, a hint of confusion in his eyes. "Do you know what my name is?"
He didn't even know his own name?
That was a terrifying thought.
Stella realized she couldn't delay, so she pressed the call button and summoned the doctor again.
After hearing Stella's account, the doctor quickly ran another round of tests on the
man.
Finally, the doctor gave his conclusion: "A concussion can indeed lead to memory loss, and often it's impossible to detect until the patient regains consciousness. The human brain is both mysterious and fragile. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective treatment for amnesia cases like this."
Stella felt a headache coming on.
She'd just spoken to this man, and he couldn't even recall his own name.
He had no ID, no wallet, not even a phone on him—nothing that could prove who he was.
It was as if he'd rushed out the door without a moment to gather his things.
This wasn't a situation Stella could handle alone. She quickly called Abby and Neville for help.
When Abby arrived at the hospital, she couldn't help exclaiming, "Wow, he's actually pretty handsome."
The man smiled politely. "Thank you for the compliment."
Abby thought to herself: At least he's got manners.
Stella turned to Neville. "Mr. Connolly, I don't think he's from around here. I checked with the police, but they couldn't find anything about him. Could you help look into his identity?"
Neville's deep-set eyes focused on the man's face.
The stranger met his gaze without flinching, his lips curved in a harmless, friendly smile. He even greeted him politely. "Hello."
Neville asked, "Do you remember your name?"
The man shook his head. "I don't."
"Is there anything you do remember?"
He thought for a moment. "Nothing, really."
Suddenly, as if recalling
he added, "Well, I do remember、 basic things-how to eat,
Neville: "..."
Was it just him, or did it feel like this guy was toying with him?
Stella explained from the side, "The doctor said it's normal for him to retain basic knowledge."
After all, he'd only lost his memory, not his ability to take care of himself.
"Oh, right." The man suddenly pointed to the necklace around his neck. "noticed earlier that there's a word engraved on the back of my pendant."
Stella asked, "Can we take a look?"
He took off the necklace and handed it to her. "Of course."
Stella examined it. The necklace wasn't particularly valuable—just a simple silver chain. The pendant was an ordinary design, nothing remarkable.
Maybe he wore it all the time, or maybe it was well cared for, because it was clean and shined brightly.
Neville inspected it closely as well, but didn't notice anything special.
Abby chimed in, "Maybe that word is part of his name."
Stella thought for a moment, then snapped a few photos of the man.
"Mr. Connolly, I saw this gentleman at Mr. Burton's party. Could you ask around
and see if anyone there recognizes him?"
Neville and Abby both glanced at her.
"You've seen him before?"
Stella nodded. “Just in the back garden, though. It's possible he wasn't actually a guest at the party."
Neville replied, "Alright, I'll look into it."
He made a call, sending his assistant the photos of the man and the necklace.noveldrama
