Chapter 36
KAEL.
I asked for one bed, with no couch and little space to move around. In my defense, I wanted to make sure she was within reach in case someone barged in on us in the middle of the night.
But I also want to feel her warmth. Not that I wanted more than just sleep, but... damn it! I had to admit I wanted her close.
"I got you," I mumbled, focusing on her amused face. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Her eyebrows hiked up as if she couldn't believe whatever she saw in my face before she straightened her posture.
"Thank you. I want to rest now." She said.
"Of course." I motioned with my hand, showing her the bed that was just three steps away from us. But instead of going directly to it, she picked up her backpack and made a run to the bathroom.
Or should I say she made two steps to the small bathroom?
I remained seated in the chair while she was in the bathroom. I tried to concentrate on our next move for tomorrow. I reached for my phone in my pocket, only to realize that my battery was empty and I had left the charger in Rasmus' car.
I thought I could keep myself busy and call Landon so I wouldn't hear the water cascading, which was giving me filthy thoughts about Adessa.
I leaned back on my chair, my legs spread out and my fingers tapping on the table, diverting my mind on other things-like Desiree's infidelity and Rasmus' betrayal-but my thoughts would always go back to her and how sexy she looked bent over while stepping out of her pants earlier.
Her breasts, although being held by her bra, were hanging, and I loved the way they looked so full and soft.
"Oh, fuck me now!" I grunted at the same time the door to the bathroom opened, and my legs immediately retracted. I slid them under the table so she wouldn't see my erection.
"Do we need to wake up early?" She asked as she dried her hair with a towel.
"Yes," I said with conviction as if I had already planned our next step.
She was dressed in thin pajama pants and a white shirt. Nothing fancy, but it was not bad either. In reality, the fact that I could see her erect nipples through her shirt made her sleeping attire too fucking sexy in my eyes. "Are you not sleepy yet?" She asked.
"I am. I don't have any pajamas or clothes to change into, so I'm not sure if you're okay with having me in these clothes."
"You sleep with just your boxers." She said as she slipped inside the blanket. "I don't think you'll be comfortable with your pants on. As long as you stay on your side of the bed, we're good."
Of course, I knew I slept with just my boxers, but I didn't know she'd be okay with it.
"I left an extra toothbrush in the bathroom. It's new, so you can use it." She said before she covered the blanket up to her neck and closed her eyes.
"Can I ask you something?" I asked her as I knew she was still awake.
We were lying on our sides on this double bed. I was facing her while she had her back on me.
""Hmmm..." She mumbled but didn't move.
"I did you really dirty with that divorce paper without talking to you."
"I'm glad you acknowledged that." She said almost immediately.
"But why do you still trust me? What if I'm the bad guy?"
She didn't say anything, and I didn't add more.
I waited.
I let out a sigh when I thought she might have fallen asleep or decided to ignore my question. But it didn't take long after that when she slowly turned around. We ended up face-to-face, with just a little space between us.
"Because I have no one to trust." She swallowed before forcing a smile. "I actually have no one."
"Don't you have a family?"
She shook her head. "I am an
my
orphan. Even the sisters in the orphanage never met my parents. They said I was left by the door. You know, the typical storylines you would find in a movie. But that's reality. I don't even know where I came from. When you found me, I was hungry. Not tonight, although I was also hungry when you found me tonight." She softly chuckled, but I could see the sadness in her eyes. "But the first time we saw each other, I was trying to catch fish, so I had something to eat. When you asked me to marry you, I said, why not take the risk? You seemed to be a good man, and I could be assured I could get to eat three times a day."
Her eyes pooled with tears as she chuckled again. "It was the best risk I had ever taken. I may not be in the best place at the moment, but the last year... I had no complaints until the accident. Until you woke up, and
I was discarded."
She closed her eyes, probably stopping her tears while still forcing herself to smile. "So I don't have a choice. Either I run away from you, or I must trust you again." Then her shoulders shook as tears trickled down her face.
"I killed two people, Kael." Her voice
broke as her sobs wracked her body. "I tried to tell myself it was a nightmare' and not real, but I know I was just fooling myself. I'm terrified they will find me or the police will find me."
My heart broke at her agony. This was my fault. My hand raised, wanting to touch her, but I didn't know how to console her.
"I swear I'm a good person. I got scared and..." She tried to stifle her sobs as she kept wiping her tears, but they kept coming. "Please help me... I don't know where to go."
I moved toward her and slid my arm under her body before pulling her into my chest. She didn't struggle. She didn't fight. Instead, she wrapped her arms around my neck and rested her head on my shoulder while her cries got louder.
"I got you. I got you." I kept mumbling. "I promise I will get you out of this mess."
