Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Lily never believed that Meredith could lead a better life than her. Subconsciously, she thought that
Meredith must have used some dirty means to get this card. That was why she spoke against Meredith.
When Clara heard this, she quickly added, "Don't talk nonsense. There's no old man and Mer doesn't
cheat to get this card. Mer is in a free relationship, and her boyfriend is just a little older."
Hearing this, Meredith turned around abruptly, "What did you just say? Say it again."
Meredith's eyes were so sharp and full of undisguised anger. Seeing this, Lily suddenly felt a kind of
fear. Nonetheless, Lily didn't want to show her fear to Meredith, "I'm wrong."
Meredith squinted at her, and Lily said in a tone dripping with sarcasm, "You don't cheat to get the card.
You steal it. How can the old man like you? After all, you've been in prison, so it's normal for you to
learn how to steal."
As Lily spoke, she felt that her words made sense. She snatched the card from the shop assistant and
looked carefully at it, "Auntie, she definitely cannot have such a valuable card. She must have stolen
it!"
Clara also came over to take a look. She rolled her eyes, and immediately said in a tone dripping with
sarcasm, "Mer, I don't care if you do other things, but if you steal someone else's things, I can't just sit
back and watch. We are a family, but I have to place righteousness above family loyalty."
Meredith frowned as the two of them were lying through her teeth, "You said I stole it. Where's the
evidence? Aren't you afraid of being arrested for making false accusations when you talk nonsense
without evidence?"
"What evidence do you want? This card is the best physical evidence! I'll call the police now and see
how you explain it to the police!"This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Lily's loud voice attracted a lot of people to watch. She then called the police.
Lily gave Meredith a triumphant look. "Now, you're done!"
Meredith did not defend herself. What was there to be afraid of when she didn't do anything wrong?
After a while, the police arrived and they brought several people to the for interrogation because of the
huge amount of money involved.
"Meredith, right? Where do you get this card?"
"Someone else gives it to me."
"Who gives it to you?"
"I don't know..."
What should Meredith say? Should she say that it was from the man who tried to grope her every
night? She didn't even know his name or what he looked like!
It sounded like a lie, but everything she said was true.
"..." Her answer only made the police feel that their years of experience as a police officer had been
insulted. "Meredith, I'll give you another chance. Where do you get it? Tell the truth and you will receive
a lighter sentence!
Clara added, "You hear that, officer. She can't even lie after stealing. What you don't know is that she
went to jail three years ago for murder. Our family... her family has disowned her because of this. She
has no other relatives after getting out of the prison. Besides stealing, how can she get the card?"
"I don't steal it!" Meredith emphasized again.
"You don't steal it? If you don't steal it, then it's the old man who gives you this card! How many times
have you had sex with him to make him give you such a valuable card?! Officer, even if she don't steal
it, her behavior is a kind of...prostitution! You must do something to stop such a bad thing!"
"Clara! You're slinging mud at me. Do you think everyone likes to attach themselves to the rich as much
as you do?"
"You! What are you talking about? You're slandering me in front of the police. I'm going to sue you!"
"All right! Quiet down!"
The police stopped the argument between the two of them, "You two go back first. Meredith, since you
can't tell where do you get this card, you can only be punished as illegal possession of other people's
property. Think about it here. When you are ready, tell me the truth."
The police closed the notebook of testimony, handcuffed Meredith, and left.
Clara stood up smugly and walked with a rolling gait to Meredith with her alligator bag, "You stole such
a valuable card. I wonder how long you'll be here! Mer, don't worry. I'll bribe the people here to let them
take 'good' care of you."
Meredith thought of the "care" she had had in prison, and she subconsciously shivered. She clutched
her knees with both hands. She clutched them tighter, wishing she could just rip each aching kneecaps
off.
She already stopped provoking the Masons anymore, but they were still here picking on her! What the
hell were they going to do? Was it really necessary to force her to death?
Looking at Clara's hateful face, Meredith stood up slowly, wishing she could strangle Clara with the
chains of her handcuffs.
