Jasmine was stunned at the amount of money. She was stunned for a moment.

There had to be something weird for someone to give that much money. She forced herself to calm down and knew she had to inform Boyce. She reached for her phone, but her hands shook and she dropped it on the floor.

He squatted down to pick up the phone, but the screen had broken. He was still able to call, but Boyce’s phone was off.

She frowned at the unexpected turn of events-what was she to do now? What if that money was getting Boyce in trouble? She began to get nervous and her mind was in a daze. It was her carelessness that had caused this situation. What if it caused Boyce trouble? She shuddered at the thought of the consequences?

She sat on the floor in despair and wondered who she should look for. She didn’t dare do anything rash now and she needed someone she could discuss this with. After a moment, she thought of Dolores. Matthew was very smart and should know what to do in a situation like this. So he called Dolores.

The weather was nice today and Dolores took her baby to the park for a walk.

Kevin supported Jayden as they strolled and commented, “Look how time flies.” It’s been more than half the year and it’s almost the fall festival.”

Jayden looked up at the trees and sure enough, some of the leaves had started to turn yellow. Once winter came, the Chinese New Year would come. The leaves would grow back each spring, but once the man had passed away, he would leave the earth forever.

His phone started ringing and Jessica handed him her phone and said, “You have a call.”

Dolores placed the child in the stroller and covered the baby with a blanket. Then she picked up the phone and it was Jasmine calling her. Why did Jasmine call her?

As soon as she answered the call, Jasmine said anxiously, “Dolores, I made a mistake.”

Dolores was puzzled and asked, “What happened? Calm down and explain it to me.”

Jasmine pulled herself together and said, “Yesterday, after work, I met someone looking for Boyce. He gave me a box of apples for Boyce. Today, when I opened it, there were no apples, but it was full of money. Dolores, what should I do? I’m very frightened and I don’t know what I should do.”

“Okay, I’ll head your way. Wait for me at home.” said Dolores.

Jasmine acknowledged and ended the call.

She looked towards Jessica and asked, “Mom, can you take care of the baby?”.

Jessica nodded and asked, “Do you have something to take care of?”.

Dolores nodded and left. Jayden looked at her and said, “Drive safe.”

Dolores thanked him for his concern. She went to get the car keys and headed for Jasmine’s house.

As Jasmine sat on the couch, she occasionally glanced at the cash box and her stomach churned. Soon, someone knocked on the door and she went to open it.

Dolores entered the apartment and Jasmine pointed to the box and said, “I thought it was a box of apples and accepted it because it was nothing important. I didn’t expect it to be…”.

Dolores patted her shoulders and said, “This person hid the fact that it was money, clearly he knew you wouldn’t accept it if he had said what it was.”

“Would this involve Boyce? I wanted to inform him but his phone was off. I ran out of ideas and that’s when I thought of you…”

Dolores asked, “Do you have duct tape at home?”

Jasmine nodded, went to get it and gave it to Dolores. Dolores sealed and said, “Let’s go.”

“Where are we going?”

“To the police station. Are there security cameras in this apartment complex?” asked Dolores as she picked up the box. Jasmine nodded and replied, “Yes, there are everywhere.”

“Okay.” She then calmly said, “Go to the management office and ask to see the security videos. Make copies of the videos of the man who brought this box to prove that you were unaware of this situation. Then we will go to the police station to explain the situation.”

Jasmine agreed, “I will do it immediately.”

Then Dolores said, “I will wait for you at the entrance of the compound. Come over when you have made the copies.”

Jasmine nodded and they both went downstairs. Dolores placed the box of “apples” on the back seat and called Boyce. Boyce’s phone was still off.

When Boyce arrived at the police station this morning, he was immediately taken in for questioning. His phone had been turned off to prevent others from contacting him.

“We all know your character, but this complaint is not without merit. It accused you of being corrupt and it was very clear that it was your wife who accepted the money.”

“Mr. Shawn is not that kind of person. This is clearly a set-up.” A colleague spoke up in Boyce’s defense.

“So how do you prove it’s a set-up?” the questioner asked.

The colleague was perplexed and then said, “In any case, I’m definitely not going to believe that Mr. Shawn is corrupt.”

“How about this, Mr. Shawn should not be involved in any case until this investigation is over…”

“Impossible.” Boyce spoke up after maintaining his silence, “I have a case right now.”

“You can pass this case on to Michael.”

Michael was Boyce’s partner and now Boyce was a commissioner while Michael was still an inspector. There was a big difference in their status. Michael had been silent throughout the interrogation. However, he was not going to speak up for Boyce at this point.

Boyce was startled by her appearance and got up from his seat. He walked up to her and asked, “Why are you here?”

“I came to see you.” Jasmine glanced at Boyce. On the way, Dolores had assured her that everything would be fine as long as she told the truth.

There was no need to panic.
