Chapter 9: Going Back
Chapter 9: Going Back
"Please fasten your seatbelt," the flight attendant announces. The plane is about to take off now. I look at Diego, who is busy on his phone.
I held my tummy. We're leaving now, baby. We are going to start a new life. But don't worry I will make sure that you have a good life.
I sigh and look out the window of the aeroplane.
"Are you scared?" Diego suddenly asked me and stopped what he was doing. Scared? Yes, I am; I'm scared that one day if my son grows up, he will ask who his father is. I'm afraid that one day he will see other kids with their fathers while he doesn't have one. I might be scared that if he could understand and think about things, he would come to me and ask me about his father. I'm scared that he would beg and ask to meet his father.
"For now, I am. I'm scared, but I can do it for us, for my son. "He looked at me with worry on his face.
"Stop worrying about yourself. Do you know what my sister told me?" He said that made me look at him.
"She said whenever you're afraid, I should not leave you-and kept on telling you that you should be brave, just like how you tell her and convince her to fight for her disease. Don't be afraid of trying new things, Jasmine; even if I'm gone, I'm always here supporting you" I covered my mouth. Those were the last words she said before I left her that day.
My tears started to fall as I realized that Diane didn't leave me. She's still here, guiding and helping me through my journey.
"He never failed to tell you about you. You're indeed a great friend of hers. "He added that made me nod.
It hurts losing someone like her who is always there to hear my rants, she's easy to be with. Even when she's dying, she never fails to think about me.
"She loves you Jasmine, and I'm happy that she met someone like you" he said and his words comforted me.
"I'm lucky to have a friend like her; she's incredible." I saw her hardship. I saw how she wanted to give up her pain, how she still wanted to live and explore the world.
"She wants to see you happy again; that's why she asked me for a favour," he said and tapped my shoulder.
I wiped my tears and cheered myself.
I wanted to step into the airport without thinking about all my pain. I will forget everything and forget about them.
I wasn't lucky to have an honest man, to build a complete family, or to be free of all the struggles, but I am lucky enough to have a best friend like Die.
I let out a heavy sigh and wiped my tears before showing a smile.
"Thank you, Diego. I don't know what to do without you helping me. "I said and smiled at him.
About Travis? I will make sure that he never sees his son again. He doesn't have the right to even talk to him or know him. The moment I stepped out of that house, I already forgot that my son had a father.
To her mom, I will never let her hurt me again, not me, not even my son. I won't be letting them see him. And I have no plan of coming back to that place.
Baby, one day, you will understand why I chose to leave. I will not stay in that place knowing that if they found out that you're Travis Son, they will hurt you or get you away from me.
I love you. I am doing this for us. For your future.
"You're a brave woman, Jasmine. I know you can do better without me. You are strong. Not everyone can do what you're doing now." Diego said. He's like his sister advising me. I know Diego often talks sincerely with other women, and Die told me about it. At first I'm surprised but I'm getting used to his attitude.
"Am I? I think I'm the kind of woman who is easy to Replace. Or I'm the kind of woman who doesn't want a man to keep on. "I joked, but deep inside, it was some truth.
"No man could afford to keep a woman like you whose only intention is to give love more than a man deserves' 'his words made me smile.
I can't believe that he sees me like that. No one has ever told me that before, not even Travis.
"Stop smiling. You look crazy," he said, going back to his phone.
I just rolled my eyes. After he comforted me with his words, he would call me crazy. He's really unbelievable. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Sometimes, I think that Diego is not around. Diane's spirit possessed him.
"Sorry, Die," I'm just joking. I looked at Diego, who was now looking at me like I was insane.
"What?" I raised my eyebrows, and he just shook his head.
I feel sleepy, and Diego notices it.
"You can use my shoulder if you want to sleep. I'll wake you up when we get there." He said, offering his shoulder.
Since I was really sleepy, I closed my eyes and rested my head on his shoulder until I fell asleep.
"Jasmine," I heard a voice calling me, and after that, I felt a light tapping on my face.
"Wake up," I slowly opened my eyes, and I saw Diego waking me.
"We're here," he said. When I sat properly, he stood up to get our luggage. I even saw him stretch his shoulder and massage it.
"Are you okay?" I asked him, and he just nodded.
He carried out things and didn't fail to tell me to be careful while walking up the stairs of the plane.
I smiled when I saw the place that made me hurriedly walk.
"Be careful!" He shouted, but I didn't listen to him.
Finally, I could start a new life.
