Chapter 65
Liora quickly let go.
“Freya got angry because I told you about helping me. She attacked me, insulted me, and I had no choice but to fight back.” Liora began. She positioned herself as the victim.
“Is that so?”
Elijah already knew from the monitor that Liora acted out of anger.
Liora lied without a hint of blush on her face.
He stared coldly at her. Liora didn’t know why he kept looking at her. She pretended to be weak, “Speak up for me, Elijah!” said Liora.
Her shameless ability to distort the truth was truly eye-opening.
Elijah had seen it all. If it wasn’t for him arranging people to monitor Freya, seeing everything clearly, he might have believed Liora’s words.
“Since she scolded you, hit you, tell me, how did she scold you?”
“She just said… I, said I was shameless, accused me of seducing you, blamed me for confessing the truth to you. She even used her nails to scratch my neck. If you don’t believe, look.”
She deliberately pulled down her neckline to show Elijah.
Elijah instantly looked away as if that would dirty his eyes.
“Perfect. I’ve been having someone protect Freya Stone all along. They witnessed everything just now. Should I call them out and confront you?”
Elijah, too, labeled surveillance as protection, speaking lies without blushing.
Liora was instantly petrified.
Confrontation would only prove that everything she said was a lie.
She didn’t want that.
“No need, why confront? It’s not a big deal. I won’t bother with her.” Liora felt internally chaotic. She had to maintain a calm exterior so she said, “Um, I have something to do, so I’ll leave now.” she was afraid that if she stayed longer, Elijah would confront her with the witness. A long confrontation would reveal that everything she said was fabricated.
Liora drove away.
Elijah turned to leave as well.
“Elijah.” Freya suddenly called out to him.
Elijah’s steps paused.
Freya looked at his back and said, “I’m sorry.”
Elijah thought she was going to thank him.
But why apologize now?
He was clueless.
“Sorry for what?” He turned slowly, his gaze fixed on her without blinking.
“I haven’t been loyal to our marriage, so, I apologize to you.”
Elijah was genuinely surprised.
But what did it mean to him?
She was a woman who had another man in her heart.
“It’s not like you’re not good at talking. How come, when bullied by Liora Valentine, you can’t even fight back? If you can’t, go learn how to box. Don’t let people beat you up so helplessly, making me lose face.”
After saying that, he turned around and left. Freya felt a moment of confusion in her heart. She watched the departing car, her hand hanging by her side, gradually curling into a fist.
Elijah’s unexpected appearance surprised her. Along with it, there was a strange feeling, making her more and more guilty. She shook her head forcefully, telling herself not to think about it anymore. Regretting it and feeling guilty meant she had developed feelings for him, regretting that night of indulgence.
No.
She shouldn’t.
She couldn’t.
She had a child in her belly.
How could she have thoughts for Elijah?
Orion had said that Elijah would never accept being a stepfather. Moreover, with his personality, he wouldn’t allow her to keep the child. So, she must guard her heart!
Freya tied up her hair, picked up the things from the ground and took a taxi back.
…
When Freya arrived at her residence, paid and got off the taxi, she saw Leo Stone walking back and forth at the entrance.
Her footsteps halted.
Why was her father here?
What did he come for?
“Freya.”
Leo Stone saw her and walked toward her, calling her name affectionately.
Freya’s expression was stunned, asking, “What’s the matter?”
“Do your mother get discharged? Where is she staying? I’ve been unable to find her.”
Freya couldn’t believe that he came for her mother.
“You’re looking for my mom?” She asked coldly.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“It’s nothing big.” Leo Stone stammered, “Since she wanted a divorce last time, I don’t know if she’s still angry with me.”
“She is indeed angry, so she went on a trip to relax.” Freya said.
“What?”
Leo Stone was genuinely surprised, “Well, that’s good. After being sick for so long, she’s finally better. It’s good for her to go out and have fun.”
“…”
Freya remained silent. Leo Stone didn’t know what to say either. Father and daughter fell into a stalemate. Later, Freya spoke first, “Dad, if you have nothing else, I’ll go in first.”
Leo Stone obviously had something to say but didn’t know how to say it, “Well, um, that…”
“Dad, just say it.”
“Right…” Leo Stone hesitated, “Zane was locked up because of the car accident. I went to see him today and saw that he was all bruised. I thought, no matter what, he’s your brother. I can’t let Elijah, don’t let people beat him again. He made a mistake by hitting someone with his car, and he has accepted the punishment he deserves. We shouldn’t inflict more harm on him. Can you talk to Elijah, don’t let people beat him again, okay?”
Freya thought Leo Stone came for her mother, but that was just a pretext. The real purpose was Zane Stone. Her father only cared about his son. She, as a woman, was just being used by him. At the thought of it, a sense of inexplicable sadness overflowed from Freya’s heart.
She endured the sourness and said, “I understand. I will talk to Elijah. But only this time, don’t come to me again in the future.”
After saying that, she lifted her head, straightened her spine, and walked into the house.
“Thank you, thank you, Freya.”
Freya just felt the irony and sadness. Her father only came when there was trouble. He never came just because of her.
Linda saw Freya in a low mood and asked, “Is work not going well for you?”
Freya shook her head, “No.”
Linda smiled, “Then you must be tired. Take a break. I’ll make something delicious for you. I heard that there are lanterns by the river tonight. After dinner, let’s go and see.”
Freya looked at Linda, suddenly, she stepped forward and hugged her.
Her father only came when there was trouble. Never once did he come just for her.
“Linda, thank you.”
“Oh, you make me feel embarrassed with that hug.” Linda laughed affectionately.
Freya also felt that she was too weak, exposing her soft side so easily. She shouldn’t have revealed her vulnerability so easily. She had to be strong because she would be the support for her mother and the child. She must be strong.
Freya turned to wipe away the weak tears.
Just then, she saw Elijah standing at the doorway.
